    Exp Update: 0.56.127TheBeast.

I don't know what to say, man. Keep playing a game without zombies and they just may get the message that they don't need them. Just be weary. If you get too emotionally attached, it's going to hit you the hardest in the end if things don't work out how you want. Also, the reason I can come off as snotty or as being a dick is because things like sarcasm are near undetectable in print if you don't know the personality of the writer.

If they don't get the information they need from 100s of players in an hour of play, they're not going to get the info they need at all. =) Also, you can't debug something without having it present. And one more thing...you can pay to test all you want, I get payed to test. So once again, you need higher standards, man. =P

Without zombies there is no motivation to endure struggle.

That's a more than likely case, but it's not a question of why, it's a question of priorities. You would think getting a core element like zombies into a reliable, working state with lots of them, would be a very high priority task. Being so terrible and so few, for so long, prevents me from allowing myself to believe they are.

You guys still playing without any zombies? You need higher standards. =P

    Exp Update: 0.56.127TheBeast.

I hope this is just the static layer of loot spawning and that there will some dynamic loot spawning layered on top of that. Because if I were to ask what house do you guys go to when you need to find clothing, I'm sure that most of us would have the same answer. Where do you go to find scopes? Again, most of us will come up with the same answer. This is the route to take if you want looting to feel stale after a very short while. There should be no best house to find clothes, all houses should be a good place to find clothes. I do agree with logical weighting on where stuff spawns and for the most part that is starting to take shape, but as long as they continue to make "best chance at this" and "best chance at that" loot locales, especially on general items, looting will become a stale in no time.

    Exp Update: 0.56.127TheBeast.

Alright, I got over the initial frustration of the inventory issue and played for a couple hours today. I think I have the solution for the inventory issue where items are getting stuck in slots, cannot be dragged or dropped in any way. Don't put anything on your quick bar. I've had no inventory issues and have been picking up and dropping stuff, moving it round in my inventory without fail as long as I don't put anything on my hot bar.

Here I am to drop some more hate again. The inventory issue is quite an embarrassment. Picking up and dropping shit is a pretty fundamental part of gameplay and a year and half in to early access it is still unreliable and broken. This is not stuff they should be struggling with and it's stuff like this that makes me so skeptical about the quality of the end product. I wish them good luck, but as I said somewhere in another thread, I fear this game will always feel like a hacked together mod.

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

I wish I could share in your optimism. I fear that DayZ will always feel like a hacked together mod. Also, GTA kicks the shit out of any game ever made. There is no other game where you can just stand around not playing the game and still be entertained. Pure perfection.

    so much for the struggle

Why is not having time even part of this discussion? I would think that the simple solution to that would be to not play games you don't have time for. I'm sorry, but games aren't made around your schedule. Make better choices on what to play with your limited time.

LO fucking L. How has no one called this guy out on this? I've read a lot posts of people trying to justify server hopping and you sir, take the cake. That was the worst one to date.

    so much for the struggle

Hmmm, how is this company still afloat then? Op Flashpoint, Arma, Arma II and Arma III, not a single one of these titles had a midnight launch. In fact, up until the DayZ mod went viral, everyone though that BI was just a sexual preference.

    so much for the struggle

Looks like the message that's being sent is that they will keep the game in ADD mode to retain player numbers in order to maximize the data they receive from us playing. They will keep it this way all the way up till the game is close to being finished where they will then flip the switch and allow those players to leave because they don't need them any more. So basically, having all these twits playing a game they don't even enjoy is a necessary evil for the time being. The only thing I don't get about it, is what kind of data can all the wrong players be providing other than server performance? I can't help but wonder what the devs think when they view the server list, when they see just what servers are populated. If I were them it would disgust me and I would certainly do something about it. It's just one more area where they are sending the wrong message to players. After the game is wrapped and the final release is out, then yes, let them name those servers whatever they want. Throughout development though, BI should maintain control over the naming convention of all servers. You have to understand that if you give people the choice, especially in an online environment, 99% of the people will take the easy way out. How long before servers where you pay to start fully geared start showing up again? I say take control of your game back, guys. Get rid of these fools before it's too late.

What's the fascination with having pristine clothes?

I just find it funny that they're using the word mitigation.

    Developers giving in to Demands?

When the zombies were going through walls, doors, everything, did they take zombies out while they worked on getting them to a less buggy state? Nope. They caved, plain and simple. And I don't know why because if they stay true to their vision they are going to lose those players in the end anyways.
  16. Wait, it's in alpha. Aren't we supposed to just accept that there will be bugs and move on? It's not like it was a game breaking bug that was crashing servers every 5 mins.

    Realism Vs Enjoyment

Ya, I find as long as you go from town to town to town, you will end up with at least a couple food items per town, enough to keep you neutral for the most part. Then once in a while you hit the jackpot with 3 can house or even better, bag of rice or powdered milk. =) Powdered milk saved a current character's life. He had been in grey scale vision for a couple of days as blood doesn't seem to go back up until you get to bright green level energized. he stumbled upon some powdered milk that took him from red starving to yellow hungry and from there it wasn't long before I made it up to dark green energized. The next day I finally got to bright green and all my colour back. Right now I have a pot with 4 pieces of venison. I have the burner and had the propane canister, but lost it when not paying attention and did a swap instead of a combine when I first found the burner. =P

    The people have spoken?

If you gave people want they want, all games would be a game where you load in, press a button and everyone else in the game dies followed by a screen that says "YOU WIN!!!" in gargantuan letters with lots of bling. Who cares what you want. Earn it.
  19. As usual, only one side of the coin being explored here. As difficulty goes up and people see their lives as more valuable they will use more caution as they go about their ways. This means people becoming harder to see. If you aren't seen you can't be killed on sight. Let's also not forget that no one really knows if they have been killed on sight. Dude may have been tracking you for the past 20 minutes and finally saw his opportunity. Or what about all the times someone observed you and let you live. You have no clue what the kill on sight ratio really is. It's basically a term thrown out any time someone dies and doesn't want to take responsibility for it, it must have been a KoS bastard! Pro tip: Don't let your ego get in the way of you having fun with your games.

    Realism Vs Enjoyment

Has it ever occurred to you that this game just isn't for you? I don't play Pokemon because it's not for me, not my kind of game. I don't play Starcraft or RTS' in general because they're not my kind of game. This is a niche game that blew up and drew a huge audience of people that just don't really want to be playing what the game is. Why do you think the mod spawned so many different mods of the mod.

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

Land mines are a blast. =) Good luck.

"This is your story. play it our way"

What is it you want to do that you can't do? Just because something is a sandbox doesn't mean that one play style shouldn't be more effective than another. It doesn't mean that there isn't a wrong way play in order succeed. It simply means there is nothing stopping you from playing that wrong way and that you have to discover for yourself, through trial and error how to go about things the 'right' way. People that don't take the survival aspect of the game seriously will and should die. This build was a move in that direction and I believe they will continue to move in that direction. They didn't remove pink dresses and they didn't remove the fire extinguisher, so if someone wants to play that way they can. They are simply saying if you do, don't expect to survive for too long.

    Stable Branch - 0.55 Discussion

Now that I've put some serious time on this build, I gotta say: this was definitely the "TSN Turning Point" build. I hope they don't roll back anything and continue to progress, move forward. It finally resembles something close to what we had in the mod. Canned food is rare enough to create tension when on the hunt for it. I'm watching my energy level way more than I used to. I'm sneakin' around avoiding zombies, getting in fights with them when I have to. I'm bandaging frequently, having to keep my rag supply up. I've had to get out of the grey multiple times on a single character. I'm running into people far more weary to engage, keeping an eye on you, but going about their business. Most likely in the grey and not wanting to risk taking a single hit. I've ran into dead bodies in random places and that's something that was missing for a very long time, but happened quite frequently in the mod. It's been nice. Less than an hour ago I came across a body that had collapsed on a dirt road running along the side of a hill, about 200-300 meters north of Psta. A dead body that was not in a major city or mil zone, that was previously unheard of. I really felt for the guy too. He was so close to his salvation, another 200 meters down the hill and he would have found 3 cans of food at a small pod of houses. If he would of just drank the 2 cans of soda he had on him(soda gives you energy too) he would of made it to the 3 cans of food and I'd most likely be the dead one.

    This is a survival game

Is it possible that the discrepancy between players about what is spawning where and in what amounts is due to servers with hacked loot tables? Is that even possible? I've always wondered what all the "LOOT LOOT LOOT" & "HIGH LOOT" servers were all about, but I refuse to join them to find out. All I know is that I'm not seeing anything close to what others are claiming in regards to mil loot. The only real change I've witnessed is mil clothing and vests can now spawn anywhere in residential areas rather than just the barns and that feels good to me. Guns seem a lot more rare to me now, I used to always have a mosin and a LRS within an hour of spawning, always. That no longer seems to be the case. And I play this game a lot, too much even. I think what we're really seeing here in regards to this discussion is further evidence of a large portion of the community wanting things easy. They want to be able to check an online map and see exactly where they need to go to find exactly what they are looking for. They want reliable areas to hop and hunt. They fear the unknown and don't want to discover things through trial and error. They don't want to have to fight to survive, they want to survive to fight. They expect every life to feel the same with equal chance to survive and they want to have their preferred kit every single time. One of the guys in this thread even stated that the current system gives him no incentive to go anywhere. Seriously? Does he get everything he needs in his spawn town? I doubt it, anyone who plays a lot would doubt it. Sounds more to me that he is not willing to risk the time and effort it takes to get to one of the mil bases only to come up empty handed. Which is probably still bullshavik as that can even happen on any of the older versions. What couldn't happen on previous versions however, is the ability to come up empty handed after hopping a mil zone on 10 different servers. Could that be the lack of incentive he was talking about? Surviving and traveling across the map feels way more rewarding now, with a nice touch of Kinder Surprise thrown in for good measure.
