How much realism is too much for the SA?
m.w. vindicator replied to Tunusa's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are talking about a Zed survival game forum. Of course Zeds are always part of the equation. People want to play a authentic Zed survival game. While itching your nose is a funny joke, things like a realistic medical system, is worth consideration. -
I have been playing a ton of stalker while waiting for SA. I really love that game. Played through Metro 2033 back in December too. I beat vanilla Shadow of Chernobly and I have played AMK: SE and I am currenlty playing Stalkersoup for SHoC. I beat Call of Pripyat with the Misery mod. I really enjoyed that mod. I am waiting for Misery 2.0 to come out. I also beat the Way to Pripyat mod. It was really hard. I enjoyed it except for a few parts. One of the dungeons in that game is scary as hell. I had never been so scared in a game before! Not jump scares, but legit fear! Besides Misery 2.0, I can't wait for Lost Alpha to be release for SHoC. It will be a standalone game so I highly recommend everyone check it out. It is a FREE game!!!! The amount of new content is staggering. They have been making the mod since 2009 I believe. If you like DayZ, I would bet you would like Stalker. Both games have a great atmosphere and mood. Very immersive

Why make instanced or underground bases?
m.w. vindicator replied to Jeremiah Cross's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That makes some sense. I never saw the transitions to pre-apocalyptic structures but what. KeyLocks could work if power was restored. Underground bunkers would be cool. I would prefer they be instanced though. Imagine the amount of detail that could go into the little world. The engine is used to dealing with massive outdoor areas. I bet and instanced underground structure could have an immense amount of detail to it. -
The problem was the people over at Reddit, didn't feel the same way. I still want to club some people!!!!!!! :murder:

The Can Issue Explained - "What went wrong?"
m.w. vindicator replied to deren93@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As for the OP. I think the entire situation is bullshit. If people are going to quit playing the game over cans, then they should do us all a favor and actually stop playing. I haven't played the mod since November?December because I got bored with it. I am anticipating the release of SA. IF people are going to freak the fuck out about a EXTREMELY (the label on a 20cm tall can) small aesthetic change , I can't wait to see the fucking shit hurricane of butthurt redditor's when an actually change to game play is made on their game. I fucking hate Fanboys. Don't get me wrong, I really like DayZ, but if something happens to the game that I don't really like, I am not going to explode. -

A keylock would be pretty high tech for a apocalyptic bunker. I was thinking along the lines of a padlock. Some of the things you mentioned are a little too syfy. An Underground R&D facility?? How did a guy make that with shovel? -
I was talking to Clusmy. I meant to quote him.

The current thermometer is just how you feel. A real piece of loot thermometer could tell you the actual temperature. The dev team is going no HUD, so I doubt the temp icon will survive the purging!
-
I think throwing rocks would be more useful... I am all for junk loot but this is a bit of a stretch.

I am all for some good ol' Cossack Vodka! I would use half the bottle for antiseptic and the drink the rest! I hope there would be some wobbling and blurred vision for a little while after the hardy drink!

An underground bunker could have a locked hatch possibly. Also wouldn't it be possible to cover the entrance over with leaves. No one would ever find it unless they have coordinates. -

Great! This is more proof for what I already believe. Did you see the vids I posted about the Makarov on page 2? or 3? -

So what is the verdict. Are they going to stay or go. Honestly, it isn't the end of the DayZ Mod world either way

Why make instanced or underground bases?

What makes you think that other players wouldn't be able get in while the owner is offline. I would think that anyone could enter the instance if they found the base. I have never heard of the base being locked while the owner is away. This means that people could still steal your stuff at anytime. Your solutions are fine but I feel it would be simpler to allow anyone into the underground bases -

An automatic knock would probably be realistic. Even if it was for just a short amount of time. Look at ACE. They do a good job with passing out. -
reasoning?? As for the OP, I agree with you about the third person. Also I know what you mean about the first person cam. Maybe you could "lean" forward more in the car so that you see in front of you more and less of the dashboard. This would still give the player the ability to look around the car realistically.

You bring up good points that I hadn't thought of. I personally think that realism/authenticity trumps balance in DayZ. I like how fresh spawns are at the mercy of people with weapons. I do hope ammunition types and quality are factored into the weapon mechanics, with some time. With the new "entity" system, it seems like the devs can play around with quality rather easily. They are implementing this system for guns it sounds like. I am not a gun expert. I posted some videos that illustrate the effectiveness of 9x18 JHP, 9x18 FMJ, and 9x18 HP on ballistic gelatin. I strongly advise you watch those. Note that the bullets do pretty good damage, especially the JHP rounds. I noticed that Rocket was saying how shooting some in the head would damage their NV goggles or hat. It would be awesome if your backpack would reduce gun damage. While large rounds would rip right through the backpack, smaller pistols rounds my loose a lot of energy and therefore lethality. That level of detail would be a dream come true. Needless to say, I am excited to hear Rocket ideas on guns in SA. -

Right. That is why I suggest that all guns do more damage. I want the Makarov to be realistic so that I can have an authentic zeds apocalypse experience. If I found a Dragunov SVD and shot someone at 100m, I would expect them to die or be gravely wounded. If I shot someone at 800m with the same weapon, I would expect them to be really badly hurt, if not killed. Having a weapon do more damage at distance is realistic and would aid an authentic experience. That is about as authentic as the 9mm problem. Do you see what I am saying? Your solution would only worsen the lack of authenticity in the area of firearms. -
Are people really upset about 1/20 of their cans saying Derpy_Hooves? I don't watch the show but getting angry about it is childish IMO. He has been with the community for a while and seems to be a nice person. Their is no reason he and the rest of the mods shouldn't be commended for their time and effort. Please don't remove the items. PLus the labels are small. It would be entirely possible to ignore the labels.

That isn't authentic. The is a gamey thing to do for balance. DayZ isn't about balance. It is about authenticity. I hope the authenticity extends to weapons and realistic damage.
