I do have the same issue, going to try your fix. thanks !

Hey guys, I stopped playing about a year ago, after I was well equipped and had lots of supplies within days of playing. Far too much loot, few Zombies and no real weather meant nothing to survive. Only PvP was left, but kill for what ? Now I'd love to come back, so please allow me some simple, basic questions : - Is food/water rare now that you have to go out hunting/fishing/killing and looting in the more dangerous towns ? - ls weather (rain, storms, low temps) back that clothing/shelter is really needed ? - Are Zeds back in numbers everywhere or only in the bigger cities ? thank you

Status on basic needs / loot / weather = survival
gambla replied to gambla's topic in General Discussion
Thank you all guys, also just read new-player threads complaining about not finding food. That sounds good ! Hopefully weather will be miserable as well. -
Everybody is free to play his own preferred and legal gaming style. However i just don't get the point of asking in the forums for loot spots in a game, in which exploring the map and looting are core aspects of the gameplay ? Making friendly contact ingame and asking people where they'd found things would be cool and kind of realistic. Asking in the forums and using loot maps is just kind of exploiting, isn't it ? On top of that you'd gain an advantage towards other players which is kind of cheating ? No offense, don't get me wrong, but what's the point ? All i see is that the game is getting even more easier ?

What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ
gambla replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
"DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which you follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can" - DayZ description I came from playing/testing several great Arma 3 mods for years but most of them are pure PvP with just some survival "elements". While PvP as such is great fun, PvP only, and missing any real motivation for it, is not what i want and enjoy. So even with all the negative critics everywhere, about so many bugs and poor performance, i hoped to find real Survival, that promised "single goal". I've read many negative critics like "players starving , freezing to death" and was excited, that's what i want. So i started playing and was pretty amazed how well everything was working. Haven't found a single major game breaking bug, but the real problem was something else. It was a big fun for some weeks, but soon i had fully accomplished the only "single goal" as described. "Survival" in DayZ's current state is a Walk in the park: - Loot: Too much loot of everything everywhere you go. Find a little village with a water pump and you got everything you need. No need to explore the map to find supplies or a certain item (except tents and some weapons maybe). No need to go to cities and fight Zombies. No need for fishing and hunting. Choose a house and live in peace and harmony. So i thought i need to test more high pop servers only to find the majority of server descriptions is like "high loot", "crazy loot", "safe zones", "PvE only" ? And of course, loot was the same on every private and public server i tested. - Zombies: Not really, we all know. There should be hordes in every single town making it a nightmare to scavenge very rare supplies you need to survive. The reason to quickly find weapons and ammo in the first place. Shooting hundreds of zeds for a can of beans was the big fun for me in the mod days. - Weather, Environment: Mostly nice and sunny, nothing to survive. No rain periods, no storms, no heavy fog. Find a jacket, sorted. No need for shelter, fireplace, any kind of heating. How it could be ? I remember Namalsk. So while i'm aware that some issues are performance related, i believe that DayZ has been softened up to the max due to a high number of players complaining about every core survival feature being too hard, imho not understanding the game. According to the original game description and as i like to understand DayZ, surviving day by day is the end game. Those players will be the same guys soon complaining about getting bored because all what is currently left to do is PvP at NWAF. And that is what i currently see is all DayZ is about now: PvP. I appreciate any developer's status report like the last one about cool new stuff like helicopters or RPGs, better performance and all that. But all i like to know is in a nutshell: - if and when will loot be made extremely rare again ? - if and when will we get zombie hordes in every town ? - if and when will we get a harsh environment, cold bad weather, again ? So if and when will DayZ be again as advertised ? thank you -
Hey guys, playing the ArmA series since OFP and DayZ mod since the early days, and now just bought DayZ SA a few days ago. With all the negative feedback everywhere, i had strong doubts and feared the worst. And now i just feel to say honestly, it's f**** awesome ! Well done guys ! Yes, it's alpha, yes, there are bugs. But after a week playing, i've not come across one single game-breaking bug that stopped me playing and having a big fun. Long story short, these are imho the biggest issues : - Loot: Far too much loot of everything, i was well equipped and supplied after 2 days - just no need to go hunting / fishing - Weather: Not seen rain once after a week, maybe just my bad luck. So again, no real need for good cloths or shelter. (i was really looking forward to have rain / bad weather i've to adjust to) - Zombies: Unfortunately there are far too few and only in big citys. So again, not much need for the guns and not much to survive. I really wish to fight hordes for food again, like we did in the mod. (i've read Zeds were just re-added) - Storage: Tents, barrels should have more capacity, as they do in real life - i'd also love to see small, green tents (like in A2) and bedroles for lone wolfs like me - Performance: no need to explain So all in all, there is not yet much to survive, unfortunately. PvP is fine but i believe that's not the point, not the focus of DayZ. However, it's still fun playing and a good feeling to know you're working hard on our beloved game ! Keep up the good work, all the best for 2016 ! cheers, gambla

I really love the rain as it adds so much "simple" realism and of course the great immersion that you need to take care not to get wet and cold. Just great.
-
However, i always enjoyed searching for that ultra rare spot and finding it eventually. Of course you're never really sure how long it will be undetected. But finding one after some days, it's a bit like finding another guy's tent/barrel, that "Jackpot-feeling". :)
-
You can't actually hide a tent. If you check the map and think it's a good spot, others will think so too. As said before, the only little chance you have is, if it's far away of anything worth looting and somewhere at the map's end. But since the mod days, it's only a question of time until it's found by someone. I keep my best stuff separated in a barrel which can be hidden far better.

Completely confused on why my game has suddenly stopped working!
gambla replied to famousbull's topic in Troubleshooting
Of course there is. And the error message is pointing to a memory failure, even so it might be misleading. Only because every other software runs stable on his system/hardware, doesn't mean that a high demanding game like DayZ is not affected by BIOS settings like Core clocks, RAM timings, further on settings like e.g. "Intel Virtualization Techn." etc.. And my long experience with this kind of issues is that it's always worth to doublecheck everything even if it seems unrelated. Sometimes users just forgot about any system changes they made. -

gambla replied to famousbull's topic in Troubleshooting
There's no point for insults. Adjusting the BIOS isn't as dangerous as it was in the past. If he can swap a video card, i'm sure the OP will carefully check the settings and google for anything unclear. Apart of that, we're running out of options in his case. -

gambla replied to famousbull's topic in Troubleshooting
As you've tested with a second video card, it still seems CPU / RAM related, even if other games work well. Check your BIOS settings, i don't recall every one of them but you might like to disable security and power saving settings for another test. Check RAM timings, everything. -
Completely confused on why my game has suddenly stopped working!
gambla replied to famousbull's topic in Troubleshooting
Hi famousbull, that really looks like a tough issue. I'd recomend: - Update Windows (keep W7 !) - If 2*8 GB RAM, remove 1 module - Update Mainboard drivers - Disable any Antivirus software for testing - Disable any Gaming related software like MSI-Afterburner etc., Fraps etc. - Video-driver: turn off every setting like Antialiasing, Anisitrope Filtering etc. - Test startup parameters like "CPUcount=4", adjust to your hardware, google for that - Test with lowest ingame video settings That's all i can think of for the moment. Good luck. -
Low FPS - things to check : First thing is that you won't get far if your hardware is just too weak or drivers are outdated. Have a first look at section "General" below. But if you follow each step, adding only some FPS at each stage, you may can improve your minimal FPS significantly, probably to get it playable at all. Why is it so hard to get decent FPS ? 1) Have a look into Wikipedia and read that A2 is from 2009, with the engine developed for 10 years. So the engine was developed and tested with available hardware of 2009 and later. 2) Read about what A2 is calculating realtime: "Every weapon in the game fires projectiles with real trajectories, drop off, and penetration characteristics. As such, no weapon system in the game is a "guaranteed" hit – only after the engine has simulated the event can it be determined if a given shot or missile has hit the target." 3) A2 offers a true and realistic open world that "features realistic day-night cycles, changing weather, fog and visibility, and a view distance of up to 15 kilometres" Optimizing ArmA2 is basically only possible with a lot of testing. When you are starting with the video options, do not set everything to "low". A2 can perform better or equal with some settings on "high" or even "very high". Start your tests with all on "very high" except AF /AA on low, they have the biggest impact. This is caused by the engine moving the load to CPU or GPU for different settings. I plan to update regularly. If you like it, we may can have it pinned. my own Hardware: All of this tested with my rig: ASUS P8P67 - Corei5-2500K@4400 - 8GB@1600 - GTX570 Phantom - OS: SSD 840Pro - DayZ: SSD OCZ Vertex1 - Win 7 Pro 64bit For comparison of your basic gaming performance, my benchmark results : 3DMark06 30007 3DMark11 v1.01 P5959 3DMark Vantage P23374 3DMark Ice Storm 162272 3DMark Cloud Gate 16483 3DMark Fire Strike 3855 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ General 1) update Windows for performance / security (+ directx) 2) Install latest drivers for System/Mainboard and Videocard (GPU). 3) Compare general Gaming Performance with e.g. "3DMark" at http://www.futuremark.com (no advertising) or other tools 4) Compare builtin A2/OA benchmark performance at BI Studios: http://forums.bistudio.com/forum.php 5) Use tools like "CoreTemp" or "OpenHardwareMonitor" for - check if CPU Turbo Mode working (intel) - Logging min/max values of CPU speed and utilisation of CPU / GPU - (find bottleneck) 6) Use tools like "MSI Afterburner" for - check if GPU switches to 3D mode - GPU speed - memory usage 7) Disable any Security Software only for testing (!) 1) You can check the patch / beta patch / build version here: - start Arma2OA and check version at the bottom right - start Dayz Commander and check install/update Check DayzCommander for the versions run by Servers, then dl your client version (see first post). I don't use Steam so i have no clue how it works using Steam. Others may can help here. > See this thread about the patch causing massive lag / fps drop. 2) Your scores seem fine but you need to compare your scores at futuremark. Compare your own with the results of other members using same hardware.

It's right to be careful, but check Dig's posts in the forum. He's just trying to support many people. And without any details it's hard to help in the forum.
-
Hi, i'll check your scores tomorrow. Your rig isn't bad, that's right. But most AMD/ATI rigs just don't run well with A2. Which beta build have you installed ? There was one of the last that had a bad impact on your fps.
-
Update: Added section SSD / HDD comparison Please feel free to correct any bad English. I'm not a native speaker.
-
Perfect, congratulations for understanding that we talk about a combat simulator. Btw. FPS = first person shooter = Game I'm done here, good luck.
-
I don't want any "war", i try to explain that ArmA2 is NOT a GAME (!) and so not to compare with whatever game in history. And i've tried to explain above that the old engine is one or the only root cause for running bad with AMD. And btw. it runs pretty well with my rig, CPU and GPU are well utilized, see thread in my sig for details.
-
1) You're right that this topic is not about the A2 engine, but highly related to your question about a constant 60 fps. So if you're not interested in background and details, there's no point in asking about the performance. 2) Saying "Arma 2 hates AMD processors" is again wrong but otherwise confirms that we speak about an engine that was started developing in 1999 with available hardware, and not for future AMD processors. 3) Arma2 will never be "optimized" as we already have ArmA3 out. 4) And yes, ArmA is "not normal" and no "normal" "FP Shooter" in any way
-
check thread in my sig and get "hardwaremonitor"... some rough values for room temp 20°: - Motherboard and AUX should not exceed 40° - CPU idle should be max. 40° / load at max 70° - GPU idle max room temp. / load at max 70°
-
First, have a look into the well know Wikipedia and read that A2 is from 2009 with the engine developed for 10 years. How could they optimize A2 in 1999 for hardware of 2013 ? Second, read about what A2 is calculating realtime: "Every weapon in the game fires projectiles with real trajectories, drop off, and penetration characteristics. As such, no weapon system in the game is a "guaranteed" hit – only after the engine has simulated the event can it be determined if a given shot or missile has hit the target." Wikipedia
-
I don't know why people always claim A2 isn't optimized, this is WRONG. A2 is a military simulator and even used by Armys around the world. A2 does multiple calculations and can't be compared to any Shooter. Please read and gain knowledge before spreading these false information everywhere.

So where's your 3DMark score ? And more important: have you compared your score online with other systems having same hardware ? This is the purpose of 3DMark.
