How to use the search function.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I am perfectly aware that the devs are doing this, it is self-evident by the fact that Dean introduced gear degradation into the game. However, it's not "fallacy" that KoS is an over tread topic, it's just a fact. Anyone who knows anything about DayZ is perfectly aware that many players choose to simply kill other players without interacting, and actually, that's just their personal choice. I'm not even voicing an opinion about these topics here. KoS is excessive in this game IMO, however an artificial "sanity" solution is no solution at all. As your quote from Dean demonstrates, he doesn't want to "punish" players for their particular playstyle. The solution is simple. The game just needs more content. If people weren't so bored in the game, then player killing wouldn't be the only source of excitement. Of course it's alpha so these things will be addressed. I'm not saying that discussion is off the table, I'm just saying, we have stickied threads (or at least we had one, at the time of OP) about KoS. We don't need a new one every few minutes. Anyway. Thanks for the replies guys. I sort of gave up assuming that people were just going to ignore this thread anyway lol. Beans for everyone! -
The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.

LOL! /endthread That's enough internet for one day, I'm taking a walk. -
The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
It's a pointless comparison, as Dean already stated they would be adding it. It may just need work or adaptation to the engine. You might as well say "Person A is 6 feet tall, so why isn't person B?" Well, they were made by different people. The details until now aren't that relevant. The game works well for me at least and the fact that there is still room for optimization is actually a good thing. If you really hate the game so much, don't play it? That is an option. -
What's with people asking the devs to personally address their questions on their first post lately? They don't even answer the 1k posters. <_< lol

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Um, well... You might be mistaking that with frustrum culling, which is already commonly used. Occlusion culling is partial and works behind objects whereas frustrum culling only stops rendering objects which are completely outside the viewing area. -
getting BLOOD bags from Hospitals
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
You get a saline bag in every first aid kit. What more do you want? I like that you have to take blood from people. It's an interesting mechanic that presents new gameplay options. -

The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Is it really relevant? A lot of games don't utilize occlusion culling, it's relatively new rendering technology. -

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Rocket DID acknowledge occlusion culling and alpha means that it's not a finished product, which implies there will be future improvements. Nice try though. I know my definitions, thanks. -

Occlusion culling isn't even enabled yet. Does the word alpha ring a bell? -
DayZ SA - Initial Thoughts - Will it ever live up to it's potential?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Timma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yes. I think the game will eventually live up to it's potential. The movement doesn't feel that clunky and has improved a lot. Honestly, I actually like how this game makes you feel like you're in control of a real person with a physical body and not just some floating head with a gun doing 360 headshotnoscopes for 1337 winz. -
The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't perform the same. In the mod I would be lucky to get 30 frames per second in the middle of nowhere. At this point, I get 20-30 fps in cities, 40-50 + in sparse areas. That's on a three year old mobile graphics chip. -

 The mod ran on Arma 2, did it not? -

They're doing it right now, Einstein. Again, performance from the mod to the SA has already increased tenfold, this is apparent to anyone who is looking at the two objectively. -

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Good job defeating your own argument. If engines can be tailored to design, then the same is true of this one. Again, I have great performance on this game on a laptop bought in 2010. It looks beautiful. All your points are moot. -
The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Once more, PLEASE provide a demonstration of an engine that can currently do this, and combines FPS simulation and realistic ballistics, and is multiplayer, and has a persistent database. If it's so "easy," then why hasn't it already been accomplished already? -
The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
It's literally the only engine in existence that could currently pull of what they are doing. Granted, some games can handle huge maps like RV, however, they don't support ballistics, they generally have very ugly graphics, they basically tend to be games like WoW or whatever. Furthermore, this "intellectual property" started off as a mod for that currently available engine and as such it's easier to directly translate that to a standalone title. Just look at the games that have attempted what this game has. - Infestation sucks ass. - Cryengine honestly is a piece of shit and worth nothing except as a graphics demonstration, it's buggy as hell, can't handle large maps, doesn't do well with network communication, and has massive compatibility issues across different types of hardware. Using Cryengine would have all the same difficulties as RV and more. Not to mention that shit is owned by EA, meaning they'd have their grubby little fingers in everything, whipping their slave labor to death and generally fucking up the entire vision of the project. Dean probably wouldn't even be involved if this were the case. - Frosbite also sucks, is still suffering from massive bugs, DICE is owned by EA so fuck them, and also it does not stream the map in chunks. This is the whole purpose of the network bubble in DayZ. That's exactly what it does. It only accesses information around your character. The game is not rendering the entire map all at once. Believing that is complete stupidity - worse - sheer willful ignorance. - Elder scrolls engines load a map in chunks and yet it still can't even touch the map size of RV. Not to mention it handles poorly as a shooter and can't handle multiplayer, whatsoever. Honestly I can't think of any other comparable game engine. Please enlighten me, because there's nothing else on the market that really combines all these features. Simulation aspects are always lacking, map size sucks, it's buggy, and network communication is always going to be a problem regardless of your rendering platform. Period. I don't know where people are getting this idea that the game runs so poorly. You must be running windows fucking 98 because I have a 3 year old gaming laptop that is becoming rapidly outdated and sluggish, and I get pretty great performance overall on medium/high settings. On an Asus G73jh. With a larger, non-native screen. Really, if you can't figure out how to buy a decent computer to play games, go buy a fucking Xbox and join the liege of whiny casual console gamers.- 132 replies

Just been GIVEN "end game" gear. Good Samaritans or spawned items?

LOL! "Some guys were nice to me in DayZ. Were they hackers?" Oh DayZ, making us all paranoid as fuck. -
I say we mobilize a forum posse and lynch this motherfucker.

Money? Really? What good is money in this world? Sounds like someone's been watching too much PsiSyndicate. You realize that Flying Africans episode was all staged... right?

Most common ways you guys die.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to GenericSurvivor's topic in General Discussion
I've died I think 3 times from players, although one of those times I hit exit and came back later to find my "death" had no effect, that was earlier on. Fell and broke my leg due to a glitch which caused a zombie to kill me. Fell to my death due to glitches 3 other times. And like 4 or 5 times I lost my character to wipes. I've never encountered a server hopper or a hacker. -
DayZ SA Pros & Cons list [+suggestions]
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to whatisthis's topic in General Discussion
This I agree with. Your name option, I don't. What happens when one loner comes up against a group? That's called an unfair advantage. By adding nameplates between partners you are just tipping the scales even further in the favor of the group, when sometimes friendly fire could work out in the favor of an individual. I'm not misinterpreting anything. It's bad enough that groups can use 3rd part VOIP programs to telepathically communicate outside the game. Identifications would only reinforce that style of metagaming. No longer would there be tense moments between friends going "IS THAT YOU IS THAT YOU?!" So basically, you're just further removing the terror from a game that is meant to terrify you. Might as well ask the director of a horror movie to add an on screen timer before every jump scare so you don't embarrass yourself in front of your girlfriend. -

Look man it's not personal. If you want an arcade experience, play WarZ. Your "preferences" will ruin the game for everyone else. -
DayZ SA Pros & Cons list [+suggestions]
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to whatisthis's topic in General Discussion
Um, no. This isn't CoD. There's no "hardcore" mode. The game IS hardcore. They're going to give servers the option to disable 3rd person and reticles, which should be the default way this game is played anyway in my opinon. Anything else is as close to "easy" as you're going to get. And no, no identifications. First of all, it can be used for cursor scanning. Secondly, just look at people's clothes and faces. That's how you identify people in real life. The risk of friendly fire is not going to be mitigated by some gameplay gimmick. Learn to use tactics and wear clothing that will help you identify each other. It's literally that simple. This game is not about preferences. It's about kicking the absolute shit out of you until you grow up and learn to deal with it. This isn't a casual shooter.
