You tried to do the right thing, and that counts for something. But tactically speaking, you should have been able to kill both those guys before they could so much as look at you. If they had a lick of ammo you'd be on the coast with nothing but your flashlight to keep you company.

Why is everyone so agressive?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to ElwinSP's topic in New Player Discussion
Think of this as your own Heart of Darkness. The experience of DayZ is pretty typical among all of us. Just starting out we're all just fresh-faced young boys who want to wander the world surviving the zombie apocalypse. Then we get shot by a stranger for our beans. So we respawn, collect some more gear, venture a little further north. Then we get shot by a stranger for our gun. So we respawn, fight a little longer, grow a little darker, find a better gun. Then we get in a gunfight and lose because we didn't take the initiative. So we respawn, seasoned veterans, and we vow that the next person who crosses our path is gonna get a bullet in the back of the head before they can even look at us. Then we run into someone who says they're friendly. The anxious little boy hoping for a friend shows himself for a few minutes.Annnd then we get shot by our friend, for our beans. Never again. -
You forgot to tell them to use the ALT key. Got to love that feature.

Change How Zombie Spawning Works
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Zamary's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The pressure the zombies put on you to survive is part of many elements that combine to create a pressured relationship between players - which is the truly unique aspect of the game. Making zombies easier will only degrade the gameplay at this point. -
Please add Fatigue / Stamina

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/A_Beginners_Guide#Health "You need to eat and drink, but only enough to keep those icons from blinking. Running causes you to become hungry and thirsty more rapidly. Panicking from being attacked also increases your hunger. Also I'm pretty sure heavier packs do make some additional noise. -
+1 to this vehicles simply must be more accessible.

Dogs as Detectors of Humanity
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes but that is the issue with a lot of things. Double edged swords are what make this game great. For example, vehicles great, but they have authentic downsides; noise, maintenance concerns, ect. This would be the perfect downside to having a dog. And rocket did say you would have to "train" your dog somehow. Like 4L4N said, you could have a trainable hush behavior that would keep the dog quiet if you decide to do so. Dogs should have benefits and downsides, not just be standard kit. I once killed a guy in a grocery store because I could hear him eating beans through the wall. But that's quite an authentic situation, which is why it impressed me so much. -
Moral management and KOS
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to indominator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Except for the fact that sometimes friendly fire happens by accident, and if you deliberately kill a teammate in this game, they will undoubtedly punish you in their own way. So it's still pointless. There should be no punishment at all. Period. It's a sandbox game and you can do as you please. -
Dogs as Detectors of Humanity
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No I definitely think dogs should not attack until the player gives it a command. Just a way to give you an idea about people. And of course sometimes it may turn out that the person your dog was growling at is friendly, there should be some sort of time limit for the growl, say ~5 minutes. If you are near a person for longer than that period of time, the dog should stop growling at them. I also could have sworn that Rocket said on the livestream that blood transfusions affect humanity. Not sure, but if they don't, it should. -
I'd like to see more vehicles added to DayZ
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How would more vehicles make the game LESS thrilling? Think about it. a: On a vehicle, you are far more likely to be detected and attacked by other players. Vehicles turn your group into a target, so having more of them would only increase the likelihood of PvP, increasing both positive and negative player interaction, which in my opinion, is a good thing. b: Having a vehicle STILL means that you must maintain it. This means that you have to regularly find gasoline, spare tires, engine parts, ect. Just because we want a little bit of excitement out of the game doesn't make us "Casual gamers." Remember, this is still Arma. There's absolutely nothing casual about this game. It's buggy, unstable, clunky, and requires at least a very decent PC at minimum. If you want to walk for hours on end watching trees go by, be my guest - but it's still a GAME, and an Alpha stage game at that. And again, it is simply NOT authentic for vehicles to be so rare. There are more than a billion cars in the world right now, and I'm supposed to believe that in the apocalypse, with 90% of the human population destroyed, that there would be absolutely no vehicles around? Not to mention this TREMENDOUS hoarding issue, which again, is simply NOT authentic. "Oh look I stored my car outside the playable area of the world and logged off to take a break from surviving." You want to talk about casual gamers? THAT is the kind of shit casual gamers do. A real hardcore gamer knows that once they log out, their property in this game world is subject to it, and they have to accept those consequences. But what we have here is a concentration of game assets by particular players which in turn degrades the game experience for everyone else. I shouldn't be penalized just because I have a job and a life and I can't sit and play a video game for 8 hours straight. The point isn't to make the game easier; it's a unique opportunity to make the game more accessible and more realistic at the same time. I do agree with you about helicopters though. I'm pretty sure most average civilians wouldn't know the first goddamn thing about fixing - or flying - a helicopter. -
I don't like the idea of playing AS a zombie, but dead players coming back as zombies and walking around with equipment, now that would be awesome. Think of it, you see a zombie with a backpack on, it's like a mobile goldmine. Right now, players have no reason to engage zombies until they become aggravated, but seeing a zombie walking about with a backpack - that adds a whole new level to things. It'd be very interesting to see.

Tents, A Man's Best Friend (In A Zombiepocalypse)
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea a lot. It would let players enjoy a persistent world game without sacrificing their REAL lives. -
This game is skill based and as such XP is NOT a requirement. Investment, practice, situational awareness, and common sense is what makes you good. Murder should never be impossible, out of principle. Restricting free will is not the way to balance motivations. While I do agree that PvP is rampant and the game needs tweaking to encourage more player interaction, restriction and punishment is not the way.

I'd like to see more vehicles added to DayZ
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree COMPLETELY. We need more vehicles, period. As of right now it is basically impossible to find vehicles due to the fact that their spawn points are fixed, and very limited. Due to the nature of this game being persistent, vehicles are constantly dominated by other players (especially clans), thus preventing them from re-spawning. Additionally, with the scarcity of vehicles as they are, looking for player hidden vehicles is hopeless. The issue with the scarcity of vehicles is that running everywhere on foot is not economical, and more importantly, it is NOT fun. I like the realism of this game - I really do - but the only time I've ever actually had fun have been the two occasions I was able to get a running vehicle, and on one of those occasions, I only had the vehicle because we encountered a hacker who happened to be non-hostile and left his hacked motorcycle. The fact of the matter is that vehicles encourage people to group together, and moves gameplay along more quickly. - Vehicles should not have fixed spawn points. Nothing else in this game has a fixed spawn. The only comparable items are medical supplies in the hospitals, which are logical, and are still subject to random generation. I know it is possible to spawn vehicles in at least a semi-randomized manner consistent with things like gear and helicopter crash sites. - Vehicles must be more highly populated. If I were to walk outside my house right now, I would have my pick of literally thousands of vehicles, within a 5 mile radius. Now I'm not saying the game should have thousands of vehicles, but come on. There have to be more than, what, 25 vehicles in 225 sq km of landmass. - Vehicles should have more limited storage. Being able to store 10 rifles plus ammo plus 40 other items plus 2 backpacks on an atv is just not realistic. Vehicles should not serve as storage units, unless they actually are the size of a storage unit, like a truck or a bus. I like that vehicles spawn in disrepair - it is actually why they should be more common. By keeping the spawn rate of repair parts the same as it is now, or even making them more rare, and increasing the number of vehicles, parts and gas will become a commodity, much the way medical supplies, food, weapons, and ammo are now - but with a difference. A single player can easily carry enough food, medicine, and firepower to take care of themselves quite well. However, a single player cannot easily carry all of the parts necessary to repair and maintain a vehicle. With a vehicle in reach, a few people running into each other in Cherno can suddenly become mutual beneficiaries. I know this is true because I've been witness to it. Also, with vehicles more common, exploring and looting will be a more viable option than simply killing players and farming bodies for equipment. Right now, it is easier to find an ak-74 than it is to find a car. It's not realistic, and it too heavily biases PvP style gameplay. Don't get me wrong, PvP is good - It's what makes the game tense. But without some balance of trust and doubt, there is no tension. Kill on site is the standard modus operandi, which means that I know exactly what to expect from any player I encounter. Expected behavior does not equal tension. I really want to see some of these more brave overhauls of the game. It's in ALPHA for crying out loud! Let's SEE what happens when there are 50+ vehicles on the map. It can always be changed in another update. -

Anyone else feel zombies still aggro heavily?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Freekill0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree, zombie behavior seems very odd. One time I was sneaking through a town, plenty of zombies shuffling all around me, no problem. Suddenly a single zombie comes rampaging through the treeline, out of nowhere, and kills me. Many other times I've experienced these issues. Before these new updates which supposedly "decreased" their visual range and made it "harder" to break bones, the zombies seemed to operate perfectly. Now, Zombies have an easier time detecting from a distance, even when crouching or prone, and I've already gone through 3 morphine injectors due to zombies. -
Why the hell no one talks in game?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Batuhan87's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Quick someone call the WAAAAAMBULANCE. Frankly I've found it much better without global chat because it prevents bandits from meta gaming and hunting down players who don't know how to shut the fuck up. If you want more player interaction, go into the major cities, use direct communication. You'll get to talk with other players there. -
