  1. Okay? And? That's why you have to struggle to survive. That's the whole point of it being a game. You have to play it and become skilled to develop your story. And even then, death still has no real life repercussions. You should really just let it go as it is a game and ultimately a waste of time. You rarely say anything that makes much sense. :emptycan: Be gone troll.
  2. I love it. It's like levelling but in reverse. So presumably most people would become fully desensitized and reach the maximum "skill" for that action. For me, DayZ needs to become more nuanced, and more desperate. Right now, it's too easy to just kill yourself with no consequence and cure your infection, just have your friend pick you up. To me, it's actually becoming kind of lame for that very reason. There's nothing to really work for in the game. Your life means very little because you never really have to consider any kind of consequence other than loosing your gear. I want it to mean something when I've survived for 70 days in the woods, hunting animals, crafting traps and alarms, and carefully stashing gear around the map. Maybe helping the occasional bambi. By this time, I've killed many men. There were times when I was hunted. To this day, I am not secure. I live as a nomad, using the bushy fingers of the woods as concealment. My beard is long and scraggly. Getting shot at doesn't even spook me anymore. My diet has been steady and the long miles I've walked have made my legs lean; my lungs gulp all the harder for air. I am more alive than ever before. I can fix an engine in about two minutes flat. I've taught myself to treat basically any wound one might encounter; I can even do basic surgery, and my sutures always hold. I've learned to disinfect everything thoroughly and I've even managed to keep a supply of antibiotics on me for the last 30 days... But now I've stopped on a dirt road. Four men are approaching me with guns trained. "Put your hands up old timer, or we'll kill you!" Now imagine if all those little talents deteriorated after death. Think about the situation - I die, lose all my gear, and a good deal of the knowledge that I have appreciated in this lifetime? Or do I surrender and hope that maybe they'll just rob me and leave me with my life? If they leave me with my life, then I can still use those skills. Sure, I might lose my gear, but if I die then I lose it just the same. So the guy tells me to drop my stuff. So I go into my gear and slip one of the the antibiotics and a knife into my pocket, then I right click on the a time bomb that I crafted about 50 days ago, start the timer for 60 seconds, and throw the bag on the ground. As he's going through it and marveling at what amounts to all of my worldly possessions, I pull out the knife, stab the guy next to me right in the face, and sprint up over a ridge. Suddenly an explosion rings out, and I can hear men groaning in agony. One of them got a round through my arm on the way up, but I quickly pull a bandage out of my hoodie and wrap it up. I'll have to remove the bullet later, once I find some new forceps... These are the kinds of situations that I want from DayZ. I want to fight tooth and nail because I actually have some incentive to survive for all those "dayz." Otherwise, It just feels kind of... pointless.

    Non-lethal weapons?

100% yes. Also, I want to be able to knock people unconscious from behind, say with a bat, or the but of a gun, or even a can of beans... It could fundamentally change the way people interact with each other. Sometimes, I think a lot of people kill others on sight out of fear and no other viable option. Plus, think of the crafting options and other ammo types we might have access to. Birdshot is an excellent non-lethal. Or, you could carefully remove the shot and load a shell with rock salt. It would make the player bleed of course, but it wouldn't kill them or break any bones. You know, just to simmer 'em down a little bit.

    Player activated environment sounds

What can I say, I've supported this idea since the mod existed, even if I hadn't thought of it exactly the way you said it. Very easy to implement. We already have some environmental sounds, like wooden and metal floors, why not add more? Gates should squeak, those fence noises should definitely be triggered by collision with said object, and when you go through those broken parts of fences. That stuff makes noise in reality. Oh, and broken glass. I've had first hand experience with broken glass giving away my position. Also they could add a crafting recipe to smash up a whiskey bottle and set a broken glass alarm! I'm getting too excited here... Birds sounds would be good, but I would actually like to see birds that fly away from things and pick on dead bodies. :beans: Also, I second what Ape just said.

DayZ Community afraid of the Dark?

I agree. Server's shouldn't be able to simply nix nighttime. But also, I'd like to see a condensed day/night cycle. Night is fun, and advantageous, but a true 24 hour night day cycle is just too long for a standard play session. I want a few hours of day, a couple hours of night. That sort of thing. Also, yeah. Nights shouldn't be pitch-black unless it's cloudy. Without human light pollution, the Milky Way is bright enough that you can generally see your own shadow. However, I'd just like to point out that even without the 24/7 daylight setting, servers that are going through night cycles would probably still see drops in player populations, as most would simply leave the server and find one that's daylight, or log-off and wait until day time, but to me, that seems quite accurate. In reality, most people would be sleeping at night. They'd be boarded up in houses or out camping in the woods, waiting for dawn.

    Realistic pistols damage

You fail to take into account that being a soldier, he probably received rapid medical attention in a medically sound environment. DayZ does not have forward operating bases with a fully equipped M*A*S*H unit that can patch your skull back together. He most likely would not have survived that injury without medical help.

I think I did some good today

Is there ever a "good" situation in DayZ? It's just bad, or worse.
  8. Oh boy it's you again; quick someone call the WAAAAAA-Ambulance! I get a solid 50 frames per second on above average settings on the Arma 3 BETA, and I'm using an Asus G73jh. It's got a Radeon 5800 mobile series, for fucks sake.
  9. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

    Damage Validation System

I kindly disagree. It could be just as frustrating if you tried to shoot someone and they didn't die, only to kill you. It's better to simply eradicate the bugs at their root cause than to create new code to try to check the bad code. It only makes the game more unstable and unpredictable. I'm not saying it shouldn't be fixed. I'm just saying that I don't think this is a particularly "eloquent" way of going about it, as far as programming is concerned.
  10. This. DayZ is what you make it. If you find yourself bored, you should try to remember that it's just a game and there's really no actual loss in taking risks. Also, give yourself something to do. You know that old saying, "if you're bored, then you're boring"? When I get myself nice and set-up and bored, I like to go around the map doing "guardian angel" missions, like giving players in need free food, water, antibiotics, ect. For this reason I only go on servers that have side-chat enabled, so I can communicate remotely with the people I want to help out. I usually don't meet up with them. I just leave the item(s) they need in a location, bug out, and give them coordinates. It's fun. Also I like to stalk unarmed or lowly armed players and protect them, if I can. Stuff like that. It's entirely up to you what you do with your time in the game, so just make some objectives for yourself. Try getting killed and then hunting down your killer for vengeance. That's always entertaining.
  11. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

    Damage Validation System

Yes. It's glitchy. We know. Not that your suggestion is necessarily a bad one, but I'm just not sure if it's technically possible. It might cause you to become invincible at times when you shouldn't be, which would also be bad.

    DayZ Standalone... ...Let's Talk.

Okay, I want to begin by saying that every red mark is minus one credibility point to your post. If I can see the spell check underlining words when I quote you, then I KNOW you can see them when you type. By default I give you zero credibility, due to the fact that I have no idea who you are or what your credentials are. Therefore you're already at -12 credibility. Now to address your points in bold. 1: the m4 is not a "balancing" weapon. It's a TEMPLATE so they can get weapon attachments working properly. It's a very common practice in game dev to make a template item and then use the same code and process to pump out other, similar items. This actually SAVES development time and makes everything work exactly the same way, which is a VERY GOOD THING. 2: Hall had that trip planned out almost a year in advance. He could not postpone it. It costed him almost $100,000 out of his own pocket. Let the man vacation when and where he damn well pleases. Dean is his own man and he doesn't have to answer to know-nothings on the internet about his personal life. 3: They haven't re-remodeled anything. There was the mod version, and then the improved Standalone version. Two versions mean there was one original model, and a second remodel. 4: Zeds clearly don't work properly, and they aren't "taking them out." You act like a video game is a physical thing that you have to deconstruct before you can add more parts. They can still reprogram the zombies and it does NOT affect the release of the alpha. They'll just use the old ones till the new ones work, que idiota. 5: what 100 other things? You can't just say that like it's just a fact. 6: Don't speak for anyone but yourself. You don't know my opinion. 7: Dean never made any "promises." Every release date he set was TENTATIVE and he constantly used the words "hope," "plan," "we're trying to" and things like that. These are not promises. 8: This long? You mean the ONE year since the project was green-lit for standalone development? Let me ask you something. How long do you ACTUALLY think it takes to develop most games on the market today? Because it's about 4 years or more. That would mean that DayZ has had 1/4th of the development time of any major title game, and yet you expect it to be released and fully functional already? 9: Like, just because humans died off doesn't mean the world would suddenly become brown, black, and white. I know that's "all the rage" these days in games - to just cover your screen with a disgusting mix of shit-green and shit-brown, on a backdrop of grey nothingness - but it doesn't have to be that way. Grass is still green in the apocalypse. Trees still grow. The sun still shines. The game is already pretty depressing sometimes. I don't need a "color scheme" to tell me that. /Waste of time thread is a waste of time. Here, have a tin can. :emptycan:

    The infection dilema

It's called GET A TENT AND REST. Is nobody aware of the fact that resting also cures infections? Am I literally the only one who knows that you don't NEED antibiotics? It's absurd. When the going gets tough, the tough adapt. Stay the fuck away from viral zeds, learn how to use a hatchet, and rest to cure infections. It's very fucking easy. Now stop crying. There is no "dilemma" here. /rant.

    DayZ 1.8 Update

I seriously cannot see how. If you choose to suicide, that's your problem. I play and can generally avoid infection. Even if I'm infected, it's not the end of the game. It can be cured both by resting and using antibiotics. Furthermore, the current update gives us more tools to fight infection like antiseptic wipes and the ability to craft said item. Infection makes the game more challenging, and therefore more enjoyable to me. DayZ is not your kid's bullshit game that you can just put on easy mode and go around never facing adversity. It's supposed to be difficult. If you don't like it, get out.

Mod Suggestion: Convert between SD and non-SD?

Nevermind, I think I see what you mean. They probably removed the mags from the description of the guns. It wouldn't make sense to change it from how it is to how it is. You already can't use SD mags in an SD gun, so I figured that meant they fixed it. Well I agree anyway. It's completely illogical that I can't use 5.56 mags in an SD gun that is chambered to 5.56. Also, subsonic 5.56 ammo barely even exists, and it's not even powerful enough to cycle the bolt on an m4. So that also makes no sense...
  16. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

A simple idea for facial reactions.

Maybe that would be a concern, if the devs didn't know the difference between animations, and textures. But fortunately they do.

Matches and lore elements (hear me out)

I agree. I think this game needs a more rich environment. I'm thinking tunnels through mountains, underground areas like sewers, long lines of wrecked vehicles on the highways, that sort of stuff. Plus old medical quarantine equipment, as well as zombiefied medical workers, soldiers, journalists, non-immune survivors who carry ragged packs with supplies (and maybe even helpful notes which can lead the player to points of interest or randomly generated stashes or camps) in them. On that, I'd also like to see the occasional randomly generated camp in the woods. There might be some supplies, maybe a few of those infected survivors, ect. Similar to how helicopter crashes are generated in the game now, which is a clear violation of rocket's dogma about everything being player generated. I like that I'm not given objectives, and therefore everything I do is of my own prerogative. But it is not an excuse to underdevelop the environment. I want a world that's filled with context about the situation that I am in, so I can explore it. Otherwise, it's just Chernarus with zombies, which eventually reduces itself to "free for all deathmatch." It should bear the look and consequence of a landscape ravaged by human disaster.

Mod Suggestion: Convert between SD and non-SD?

Um, well no. They fixed it. What this means is that sd mags and non-sd mags will be cross compatible. The only difference between sd and non-sd mags (in Arma 2) was the presence of tracers. For obvious reasons you wouldn't really want to load tracers into a suppressed weapon. But I agree, it's weird that it was configured that way in the first place. Thankfully the dev team of Arma 3 is sharing whatever they can with rocket and friends so hopefully minor problems (like this one) that we inherited from the Arma 2 engine won't be an issue in the standalone.

Item damage in Dayz SA looks dumb...

That simply isn't going to be an issue. Talk about a straw man argument. In theory, they already have. Guns take damage from bullets in the SA, so assuming they also absorb said damage, it could protect you from being hit. It would be cool if the gun flew out of your hand when it got shot, though.
  21. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

    Loading ammo into guns.

You absolutely can. I worked at a gun range for almost two years, and only a few times did I encounter a pistol that wouldn't shoot without a mag. But most moderns automatics can be loaded manually, one bullet at a time.

    DayZ 1.8 Update

Wow, cry more buddy. 1: The infection you catch is NOT the zombie infection. It's normal kinds of infections which exist in the real world and can kill you in real life. DayZ is a survival game so therefore your players health and condition are important. That's what makes it DayZ. Furthermore, you can cure infections by resting. So you don't need antibiotics. 2: Doors and gates no longer break your legs so this complaint is completely invalid. 3: Infection is easy to avoid if you know how to use melee or lose zombies. Yeah, the zombies need work. But removing infection is not helpful in any way. You say to make zombies difficult, but then you say that infection makes them too difficult. Make up your fucking mind. All you ever do on this forum is bitch and moan. If you hate the game so much, then why don't you quit playing it? Sounds to me like you'd be happier on wasteland or something.

    [SA]Suggestion: Don't show server populations

I think a low/medium/high indicator is an elegant solution. However, that would also mean preventing you from seeing people's nameplates in the server as well, so as long as I can see my friends or maybe even a specific name I'm looking for, I'd be okay with it. It would certainly make it harder for me to hunt nemeses, which is something I really enjoy doing in DayZ. It makes the game feel more purposeful.

DayZ Developer Blog 7th September 2013

I've been wanting a bear crawl animation like that since the very beginning of the mod. Very excited.
  25. "I am part of a race that kills for possessions." To deny us of theft would be totally inauthentic, and if you gave the servers the option, they'd just turn it on, just like they do with 500 + vehicles, spawn equipment, 24/7 daylight, and all those other completely shitty server options that have slaughtered this game's fundamental mechanic of scarcity. Damn, The Designer beat me to it.
