What random sounds, like wind? That's an environment noise which makes sense, it is caused by the environment. That's fine, as long as it's consistent. However, as Baarn pointed out, the current randomly occurring noises like the zombie sound glitch, can opening glitch, and combo noises become routine because over time you realize that they are in fact random and not connected to a real event in the world, which is exactly what would happen to random sound events. Players would just realize they are random and ignore them. It wouldn't add to the game at all. Sound should be congruent and logical. I didn't even like that random fence noise that would go off every 5 minutes in the mod, it was routine and annoying after a while. I'd rather hear things that clue me into real events around me. An example I can give is back in the mod. I wen't into the back of the supermarket in Stary Sobor, and through the wall I heard the faint sound of chewing. Because the sounds at that point were stable, I knew that a player was in the main room of the supermarket eating a can of food, at which point I was able to round the corner and shoot him before he could react. That is critical. If I'm just hearing random nonsense then those kind of events are not going to have meaning like something as small as that chewing sound. And you're aware that the goal is to have up to 4000 zombies on the map, right? So you might know that a zombie won't attack you in the woods now, but it's alpha so that's going to change.

What you have failed to observe in these vidoes is that the first is SHOULDERING the weapon, while the second is attempting to fire the shotgun with his arm extended. There's simply too much force in the recoil to do so safely or accurately. Holding two shotguns would be totally fucking pointless because you wouldn't be able to pump the next round into the chamber. You'd have two shots, then you'd have to put one gun down, pump it, put that gun down, pick the other one up, then pump it, then shoulder both weapons again. Totally impractical. You'd be better off shooting all the rounds of a single gun, then switching weapons instead of reloading. That is the most accurate and efficient way to use two guns. This is not 007 Goldeneye. We are not Revy two Hands. Dual wielding guns is a waste of development time and does not belong in this game. Absolutely not.

I don't like it. Sound is very important, and anything that isn't happening for a real reason is just pointless. It detracts from situational awareness. I'd rather have more sound events that are triggered by players like doors squeaking when you open and close them, stairs creaking randomly when you walk up them, twigs snapping when you walk in the forest. Sounds should have meaning, not just be randomly occurring set-pieces for "spookiness." No thanks.

Non-permadeath server option in the future?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
What... What does this even mean? You haven't even explained your idea here. Are you implying that you would keep all the gear you had when you die? Terrible fucking idea. Go away. -
Ear plugs for firing guns or else you get a loud ringing in your ears
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to joeymp's topic in Suggestions
Going to have to disagree with you there Mos1ey. I worked at an outdoor gun range for a couple years. Shit's loud. There's really no two ways about it. Either you use hearing protection, or you are bound to have some temporary hearing damage. The only weapon I'd dare shoot without any sort of protection is maybe a .22 or a small pistol like a .38 special. Otherwise, guns are extremely loud. Anyone who shoots without hearing protection is either deaf or dumb, or both. Maybe one or two shots wouldn't be so bad, but emptying a clip from a .223 or firing even 1-2 .308 rounds is going to leave your ears ringing for a good minute. I'd also like to see rare electronic earphones that only filter out gunshots, and also civilian items like cotton balls and winter earmuffs or the ushanka hat which also provide hearing protection. -
Turning DayZ into a real survival game
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Pille1's topic in Suggestions
No mental states, no xp. I don't see how those have anything to do with "survival." They're just game gimmicks. -
Suggestion - disable VOIP during gameplay
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to conan the librarian's topic in Suggestions
So basically you're saying that DayZ should be able to access my operating system, see what applications I'm running, and actively prevent certain ones from working? There's a name for that, genius. It's called spyware. We've been over this idea many times before and the answer is a big, fat NO. -
Dyslecxi shows just how amazing 1PP only is in NEW video.

All I want is more stance positions like in Arma 3 and I would be totally happy with the removal of 3rd person. At the moment there are instances where you should be able to peek over or around a wall but you can't because the crouch is just slightly too low. Once they perfect the Avegant Glyph, or the Oculus Rift, there's no way I'll be playing DayZ in third person. -
Where to organize city-wide firefights?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Nightmare_Pwner's topic in General Discussion
I wasn't aware firefights were "organized." "Okay O-sa-ma, You get 500 men on the west side of Baghdad, we'll have 5 platoons of Marines and 3 armor divisions on the east. How's 8 o'clock tomorrow sound?" -
Damit Dayz! U ruined my gaming!
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Khal (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ridiculous. After only about 15 hours in Rust I formed a town of 30+ people. There are unfriendly people who KoS, but it's by far much easier to make friends in that game. Not to mention, you were probably just chilling around someones base when they killed you. There's nothing as hysterical as chasing down a deer with 5 other naked dudes. -
Dean Hall & George Romero

^ LOL. Don't know about you OP but characters I play in a game are not "me." I shut off the game, I'm still just me. I'm not suddenly some paramilitary zombie-killing survivalist. I still go to work and do normal things. I think you need to take a break from the games, bro. They're messing with your head. -
Sudden realization!!!!!
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Really Old Man's topic in General Discussion
Lots of assumptions are being made here. Don't expect all that stuff to work right away, although I have no doubt the devs will have a mind to include poisonous berries. I'd also like to see mushrooms and deadly toadstools. Maybe some very rare Liberty Caps that make you hallucinate colors and weird sounds and stuff if you eat them, but even if that happens, it's way off. Don't get your hopes too high. -
what your "big narritive" then in your story?

I killed a girl and I feel bad about it.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to gsp167's topic in Gallery
Actually, I've been killed quite a bit in Rust as well. That is to be expected in any game of this sort. The difference is that I don't cry about it. However, I and a few other people actually started a town of 20+ people, (which admittedly got trolled a bit and some mild hacker attacks took place, alpha) and grew to almost 50 members. We had to form a basic government, we had town meetings, ect. Some people are rude as fuck, others are quite friendly. Eventually some of the core members and I had to change servers due to the hackers, to go to an admin monitored server. The fact still remains that I have friends which I made in game, whom I can actually trust. We even have two female members of our group. You're playing Rust wrong if you can't find anyone friendly, and you're making huge assumptions about human nature. The first group I ever joined was 5 hours in the game, just me and six naked guys chasing down deer in the woods with our stones. It was so utterly hysterical and actually necessary that we bonded and formed a cohesive group. This is actually fascinating to me, because on a fundamental level, Rust and DayZ are not that dissimilar. In fact, they're so similar that fanboys tend to gather on either side and try to argue "which is better." But the fundamentals are almost exactly the same. So the question remains. Why is it that Rust players are generally more inclined towards diplomacy than sheer deathmatch PvP? DayZ has formed a culture of selfishness and murder. People are introduced to this game by getting killed, and for some reason, they can't seem to move past that. Murder is basically encouraged within the community as a playstyle. There's so much paranoia in the game and so little to do that PvP becomes an eventuality, rather than an activity engaged in for a real reason. Some of the key differences I think that Rust has are obvious. You get to see peoples' names up close. Everyone hates on that idea here, but it actually forms a natural reputation. Because the game has construction, people get invested in their bases and they can't just switch servers whenever they want. Learning blueprints on a server doesn't transfer to other servers. Logging out causes your character to sleep on the ground, totally vulnerable to attack. These small forced investments make a huge difference, as well as solving obvious problems,\ (such as KoS, ghosting, loot farming, ect) which plague DayZ and utterly destroy the gameplay dynamics. People get killed in DayZ with nothing and ask "why did you do that?" Usually to have their attacker respond "I don't know." It's because the culture of this game has been totally fucked. The mod created a huge stigma about "how the game should be played." There's no construction, no real goal, nothing at all to do or aim for, except for shooting other people. Let's face it. This game needs drastic changes, or else it's just going to boil down to a repetitive survival deathmatch with no real long term appeal. -

Uh, yeah. You can choose not to engage people. I don't understand why you keep saying sorry for something you chose to do. Pathetic. -
I killed a girl and I feel bad about it.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to gsp167's topic in Gallery
Weird that you kept apologizing like that; you could have simply left her alone. Is the mentality of this player base honestly so fucked that you can't manage to control your own actions? I mean, really. Man, I'm glad I bought Rust. 20 hours into the game and I made real friends with a Vent channel. DayZ is drowning in fucking imbeciles. -

If you're worried about PvP then you might as well leave now. That's basically the whole point. It wouldn't be tense without the threat of other survivors.

And what about the zombies? They'd attack you while idle.
