I don't know about DayZ 2 per se, but rather some kind of iterative version of DayZ. Also, don't forget that they will allow modding in the future so that will continuously bring in new user made content. Maybe they can find some way to incorporate approved user content into the official architecture of the game. That would be very interesting.

I think that might mostly be due to the video recording software. My fraps tends to do that as well.

"Standalone" - Live Action DayZ Short Film

Didn't see the other parts yet but dang, that was pretty good. -
Yeah, those apartments are going to be intense. Imagine when we see barricades implemented. They might become these weird kind of internally contested player held zones where people will be doing CQB, maybe even trying to hold off zombie hoards (if we do indeed see a day when 100+ players and 3000 zombies is feasible). And just look at Nether, trying to say that the "verticality" of their map is unique. Psh. I will accept no substitutes. I think it will probably be at least 5 - 10 years before we see anything that can remotely rival the scope and magnitude of this game.

how did people get SA invites for pre-alpha?

I guess I wasn't cool enough. Oh well. -
Not sure where you are getting this. The mod is already fun, (in it's own unique, frustrating way) so why wouldn't the Standalone? It has all the same features and then some. Also, I would say that actually, it is quite feature rich, considering the progress we can clearly see in the dev-blogs and in the screen shots. Not trying to start a flame war here, but what exactly do you consider to constitute features? Because to me, a new inventory system, upping the zombie count and pathing abilities, clothing items, shoes, item degradation, restraints, melee combat including fisticuffs, knocking players unconscious, weapon attatchments, new player animations, interiors for 95% of buildings, 8 real life diseases which can spread via items, food, ect, and medicine for each one, dynamic weather and a new lighting engine - those are all features. I get what you are saying, it doesn't contain all of the features that are ultimately planned for the game, but that indeed constitutes a huge amount of progress.

Because I stick up for rocket, apparently that gives me fanboy status. Here's my distinction - criticize the game all you want, it doesn't matter, because it doesn't actually change what the game is. It's different when people are just going around making personal attacks on Dean (or the dev-team), calling him a liar or this and that, just because sometimes the development doesn't quite live up to his expectations or his hopes. At least he's honest about it. It's like if I told someone "I'm gonna bake you a cake for your birthday!" And then my oven broke, and then that person went around telling all my friends that I'm a liar and a jerk because I didn't bake said cake. Just because the oven broke doesn't mean I purposely deceived you, it makes me unable to predict the exact future, just like everyone else in the world. Lol. Back on topic - Are the delays a little disheartening? Sure. Is information about the development disheartening? Heck no. It just shows that they are still working, still making progress. The only thing that a delay means is a better product on release. So why is that a bad thing? Whether we play it today, tomorrow, or a month from now, doesn't really change the value of the experience. It's the same reason most guys are terrible at game. We typically don't care about all the build up that leads to sex, we just want to skip to the end and get our nut. Well, life just doesn't work that way. The buildup is what makes the sex pleasurable in the first place. IMO, the absence of DayZ in my life is only going to make the Standalone that much more gratifying once I finally get to play it. -

That rock to the skull was fucking brutal. I've been keeping my eye on this one since I saw it in greenlit. Now if only it was multiplayer. -
I respectfully disagree. The fact that this mod alone has generated 1.7 million unique users demonstrates that the foundations are sound. If 1.7 m unique users have played DayZ online, that means each of them had to buy a copy of Arma 2, in most cases for the explicit purpose of playing a mod. That alone is impressive. Don't Starve and Prison Architect simply don't compare - as you said, they haven't even sold a quarter of that number. Those are pretty niche in their mode of gameplay, whereas DayZ is in a format (a shooter) that is far more accessible to the market. By the way I'm sorry if my posts earlier were inflammatory, but I simply can't stand for slander against a person who really has not actually wronged anyone.
-
Haha. Have you even looked at the front page of this site? Unique Players: 1,737,741 Now multiply 1,737,741 by the retail price of Arma 2 CO, $20. Actually, I'll do it for you, since you're probably not even a high school grad. $34,754,820 That's more money than you are ever going to make in your entire lifetime, fucktard. Who's the failure now?
-
Lol, another troll with absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The graphical improvements and interiors aren't even half the work that went into this thing. You're forgetting the inventory, the network architecture, the new zombies, the clothing system, the new health systems, the weapon attachments, changing all thread based objects to vehicles, diseases, zombie pathing which is still giving the team problems, fps and latency issues, which are actively preventing release, ect. Also, do you really think it's that simple to just take assets from a new engine and reverse engineer them for another game? The map is 225 sq km. A little "touch up"? Are you shitting me? Haha. If it's so damned easy, why don't you make your own game then? Huh? Have you ever made a video game map? Have you ever programmed even one single line of C++? I seriously doubt it. So you'll have to forgive me for believing the producer and the project lead of the game before I believe the personal opinion of laymans. Who are you again? Furthermore, if you aren't a fan of the game, then why the fuck are you even a member of the forums? You clearly wouldn't even be here if Dean Hall hadn't made this game in the first place. Clearly you're waiting for the Standalone just as much as anyone else here - the only difference is that you get butthurt when you don't get what you want because "waahhh I'm entitled and Dean Hall is a dick!" So I ask you, who's the one with fanboy rage here?
-
Haha. Sweet. I almost feel like I should give some beans to Bongo just for contributing the fodder for my annoyance... almost.
-
Shut up ass. You don't know what you are talking about. The mod can already do 500 zombies, so your conjecture is completely baseless. Rocket has never lied about what the product is. Must I go and find every reference where he says "If you don't like the standalone, don't buy it" or, "it's alpha, so it won't be finished," or, "this is what we hope to accomplish" or "the zombies are very much a work in progress." There is no deceit here, Bongoman... or should I call you Sergei? Dean has been very clear about his expectations, progress, and even his failures. That's a lot more than you can ask of any other game developer, period. There are no "false screenshots," there are no lies to raise expectations. Dean has even said that he would rather have a soft launch, and that profit is really not an issue when it comes to the release of this game. People are excited because they are excited. Rocket isn't trying to hype people up, nor has he ever tried to. People just read into things and get excited for the future. That's human nature. People also get disappointed because of their own failure to manage their own expectations. So why don't you go manage your own expectations, far away from here. We don't need this type of idiotic slander on the forums. Just because you are too lazy to actually read what he has to say, then jump on the hype train, then get disappointed, does not make Dean Hall a liar. It makes you dumb. Just sayin'.

We look for the standalone?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Reservoir's topic in New Player Discussion
Oi, some news for you. Arma 2 is on sale for 80% off on the Bohemia store. https://store.bistudio.com/action-fps-games So if you still wanna try the mod, I'd say now is the time. 8 bucks really isn't a lot to drop, considering all the other great mods there are for DayZ, which won't be in the SA. -

Lol, okay. You can call me a "fan boy" all you want, but you're clearly scarce here, so let me fill you in. When rocket went media silent around September/October, all you saw on this forum were complaints. Now they give us information, and you say, and I QUOTE, There is a difference between "feedback" and whining for no reason, and this is definitely the latter. And for the record, I wasn't calling you stupid. What I said was that if one really thinks that the devs are purposely trolling us, then one is fucking stupid. Try reading next time before you fly off the handle and dig yourself into a deeper hole by calling names when that comment wasn't really directed at you, if you don't believe that to be the case. And moreover, if you don't believe it to be the case, then don't post it. Furthermore, there is a serious factual error here. They aren't telling us "how much they are enjoying the game" or "how good it is." In fact, every post from rocket that I've read has actually indicated that the game has some serious issues - I.E. not good. i.e. not enjoyable yet. That's the whole reason it isn't out yet, genius. Man. That sounds soooo fun. My fanboyism is just getting ridiculously out of control when I read about collision avoidance and path-planners. Mmm. Makes my fucking fanboy mouth water. I'm getting a boner just thinking about all the programming and shit that has to go into that. /s -

What exactly do you people want? Rocket goes media silent - "omg this is gay, why is the dev team not communicating with us, ect." Rocket tells us about the standalone - "OH GOD STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THE STANDALONE, it's not fair!" And if you seriously think they're just sitting around "enjoying the game," then you're just fucking stupid. Sorry, but that simply is not the case. Developing games really isn't a walk in the park. It's not easy, and it's usually not even fun. Oh - and your fans all seem to hate you while you are making said game. What about that seems enjoyable to you?- 165 replies

I seriously doubt it. We need 50 players, damnit.
-
WarZ is related to DayZ, and at the moment, there isn't much DayZ to talk about.
-
It wasn't the bugs that killed WarZ. It was the lies. When they released the early access version on Steam, it included a bunch of descriptions of gameplay dynamics or features which simply did not exist in any way, shape, or form. To this day many of those features still don't exist. That, and the absolutely terrible gameplay combined to make an experience that felt more like a pocket-mining program than a game.
-
In the end it does not matter does it? The game will still come out, because they aren't just going to make a game for free. The whole point is to bring in revenue from the people who want to buy it. It's like saying Hostess makes Twinkies just so they can hoard the Twinkie supply and spike the prices. It just never happens. This is a commodity, not a necessity. Depriving the audience only deprives their own pockets.
-
HAHA! The only person who gets hurt by delays is Dean Hall. Calling it "vaporware" and making up release conspiracies is totally pointless. This is his livelihood. Besides, I don't think Dean has that much control over the project. It's not like the team is going to give him DayZ and then he's just gonna sit on it. Do you think the producer would be okay with that? Or the other developers? Fuck no. They all want to get this thing done as quickly as possible. He isn't making the game single-handedly, you know. It's not like Dean is just sitting at the top of some high rise office building in Prague playing the DayZ standalone all by himself, just laughing at us. Absurd. Just have some patience people.

Server testing hasn't even broke the limit they made two days ago. Unless we suddenly see the test server spike and break 30 - 40 players, I highly doubt it will be out next week.

Okay in rocket's OP he said, the zombies are a work in progress. What part of that is hard to understand? They aren't going to stay that way forever.
