Guns too Over powered at moment !
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I think a better solution is actually more knockdown states and having bullets cause serious injury, shock, ect. Imagine hitting someone with a bullet to the chest. You can go on saying "one hit kill is realism" but reality would dictate otherwise. People are often shot in the torso and manage to stay conscious enough to live through the ordeal. If we want to maintain authenticity, a shot or two to the torso or leg should be an immediate knockdown. Headshots should be 1 hit kills. Implementing more animations and more knockdown states would mean it's not as simple as *bang* you're unconscious. If players fell down and were able to move and maybe even sometimes shoot while incapacitated, we would see far more balanced combat scenarios. It doesn't subtract from realism, it actually enhances it. I've seen film of police officers and soldiers who are shot and in fact manage to stay conscious and make it to safety. Adding more variables to combat naturally balances the combat, because each variable has it's own implications. Imagine you see a guy in a house, and you shoot him in the chest with your rifle. Dude falls down immediately, so you assume he's dead. As you enter the house however, you find him sitting in the corner with his pistol square in your face. Blam. You're dead. That is balance. It means that people have a chance, just based on the odds of some variable like consciousness changing the scenario. Maybe certain wounds (like damage to vital organs) would result in eventual, slow death. Maybe we could see some even more realistic features like surgery and infection control. There are many possibilities. But as Katana said, it means the damage model has to be revised monumentally. I'm picturing a system that would simulate each organ and it's effect on your blood level and other status modifiers. Each "organ" (basically a hitbox inside your player) would have varying damage states, similar to how items have damage states. This damage state would be based on a simple numeric health value. When those organs or particular hitboxes take impact from a bullet, or a sharp melee weapon, or even blunt force, they will receive an appropriate amount of damage and apply a corresponding effect to your player, i.e. blood loss at a certain rate, a knockdown, broken leg, unconsciousness, insta-kill, ect. If an organ is only mildly damaged, say hit by a melee weapon or a small caliber weapon, then it has the ability to heal if you apply medical treatment. If it is damaged beyond a certain threshold, then it will fail and slowly (or rapidly, depending on the organ effected) kill your character through internal bleeding, which would not be repairable with a bandage. -

Survivor Getting Tired After a 'Long Day'?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to GanjaPalooza's topic in General Discussion
The thing is that you actually spawn under nourished and dehydrated. at about 30% hunger or nourishment, you start getting messages like "I'm hungry" or "I'm thirsty." This means that if you are getting thirsty often, it means your overall hydration level is just hovering about 30%. Basically, you take a drink - got to 35%, messages go away. Five minutes later, 30% rolls around, and bang, "I'm thirsty." If you wait too long, this level drops even further. Meaning a small break between meals is going to result in you being undernourished. You need to eat and drink until it says "I feel full" in green. Then you'll have an hour or two before you start to receive those messages. Also mind that moving around literally burns calories. So the more you are moving, the more you need to eat and drink. -
I actually don't consider that a glitch... I mean, you could fall into a tree and survive. Now all we need are some hay bails.

Negative Mouse Acceleration. Still one of the bigger issues.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Try turning down smoothing all the way, and turn off "aiming deadzone" as well. The deadzone no longer works but the negative acceleration effect seems to be attributable to the remnants of that Red Orchestra type aiming which Arma 2 used to have. -
TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to boneboys's topic in General Discussion
Lol, a refund. Try joining a server in a different time zone. It's not "eternally night time." It's just a very long cycle and atm that cycle doesn't seem to be synced correctly on US servers. On a more relevant note, I am experiencing a genuine server issue. Currently almost every server on my list says it's full, even though literally a few minutes ago this was not the case. Servers that are not full have a very long or indefinite Wait for Host screen. Looks like Steam just took a massive dump when the player levels peaked. -
Gettin' Yo Blood Back Yo!
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Pvt. Hudson's topic in General Discussion
That's because you're just letting your character sit at around 30% fullness. Have you tried actually eating and drinking until you get a green message that says "You are full" or "You feel well fed"? Because if not, that's the problem. Fully hydrated, you should be able to jog around for an hour or so with no problem. -
Should antibiotics give you sickness?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Felix (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Well you saw it in action for yourself. Taking antibiotics when you don't have an infection is incredibly dangerous. Also, it seems that to fully cure an illness, you need to complete a round of them (seems to be half a package or so). If you don't finish antibiotics in full, or take them when you are not sick, it can cause drug resistant infections. -
Please make US servers day/night cycle match our time
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to jessmyser's topic in General Discussion
Oh god no. 24/7 daylight servers will become the norm again. What we need are some engine built day/night cycles which a server can choose from. Allowing servers to manually set the time will ruin the game. Night time is part of it. It just needs to be a little condensed. Few hours of day, few hours of night. -
How to kill without damaging gear.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to pbrunk's topic in General Discussion
Knock them unconscious. That's the easiest way. Giving them a BT requires that they comply with you. -
Here we go again ..armed players kill newspawns..
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Merle_Dixon's topic in New Player Discussion
The real problem is that zombies are not a legitimate threat. Even in the mod you have to worry about gunshots drawing a bunch of zombies. If people actually felt threatened by the environment, they would be less prone to kill each other simply out of being too preoccupied with their own survival. Please, rocket. Please get the zombies working and in greater numbers. And for goodness sake, make them harder to kill. 1 pistol shot to the body kills a zombie. Wtf. -
DayZ Hacks already happening
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to piffaroni's topic in General Discussion
Actually, having legitimate hackers attack a piece of software is often times the only way to efficiently find vulnerabilities in that software. It seems paradoxical but that's just how it goes. I think people who are freaking out over these hacks need to remember a few things. 1: It's just a game. Sure, a cheater can ruin your good time. But let's face it - it's just a game, and losing really doesn't mean much right now. You aren't losing sensitive information like credit card details and such. It would be much different if a hacker attacked you in Epoch, where you might have worked for literally days to accumulate materials, weapons, gold, ect. 2: It is an alpha. Meaning they will be working on these vulnerabilities and hopefully implementing anti-cheat scripts. Arguing about which engine it is or isn't - you're just beating a dead horse. Just look at WarZ. Totally different engine, same hacker problems. Even if they rewrote the engine from scratch (which would take forever by the way and really is not a viable way to complete this project), we would still see hackers making scripts for it, and the team would still have to deal with it. -

Haha. Some asshole tried to kill me at Balota yesterday. Never stand there saying "don't shoot." Just turn and run as fast as you can. The thing about being unarmed is that you run much faster than a geared player. -
Lost characters, scripters, and ALT-F4 still exist...
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to lazy2guns's topic in General Discussion
Fixed that for you. -
Are you Sergey Titov?
-
You can't. Welcome to DayZ.
-
You need to find antibiotics. The best place to find them is the camouflage military building with a jail cell inside. You can find these at the airfields, at Green Mountain, Balota, and other places. Also, the tower at Green Mountain sometimes spawns antibiotics.

The official answer is... Welcome to DayZ. You just have to learn to play the game and get good enough to meet up with your friends.

What I think the night should look like;
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to victusmortuus's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure all this would require is some tweaks to the shader file. The thing about night in DayZ is that it lowers color saturation to basically 0. (one of those old remnants from arma 2) All you have to do is tweak these saturation adjustments and it should work. Not that I'm an expert or anything. -
DayZ Hacks already happening
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to piffaroni's topic in General Discussion
Look, damnit. You release any popular multiplayer game and hackers are going to attack the code and create scripts to cheat. It's just human nature. The only thing that can stop it is to let the hacks occur and then shut down the vulnerabilities. It's systematic. No software is cheat proof. You can look at any MMO and see that there have been hacker attacks against it. Anyone who actually expected hacking to be "impossible" is just fucking ignorant. -
Mostly I'm just dicking around now. "Look Ma, no hands!"

Possible to make dual mags with ducttape?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to zachgibson22's topic in General Discussion
To tape mags together you don't need a spacer, you just make them face opposite directions and leave enough space at the tops so it can fit into the magazine port. And they aren't taped. They are coupled mags which you can find. I have one right now. -
dizzy, lightheaded/ headache , "feel worn down"
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to calemus's topic in General Discussion
The update seems to have added an indicator on the inventory menu when your player is thirsty or hungry. -

Yeah, even W.O.W has hacker attacks, with mass die offs and all sorts of crazy shit. It's called Google bra.
