You think military spawns are bad now?
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Rrezz's topic in General Discussion
Okay lots of things wrong with your argument here. First of all, military bases and police stations are the first place anyone would go in this situation. Those places would have been picked pretty clean before you arrive. We don't know what kind of time frame the events of this game are taking place in - but since there are no NPC's aside from zombies, I think it's safe to say this is well after the initial outbreak. Secondly, and more importantly, is that "removing the ability to defend yourself" is a two way argument. By toning down guns they are decreasing the potential for both defense and offense. You don't have to "defend yourself" if the person you encounter doesn't have a weapon to attack you with, now do you? Duh. And thirdly, you act like they're removing weapons from the game entirely. They aren't. You still have means of defending yourself - even more, infact, because you can make improvisational weapons. It opens up far more possibilities than simple CoD style deathmatch. This is what the game needs. -
[Suggestion] Option to permanently flatten grass in front of you
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to gibonez's topic in Suggestions
Grass already get's flattened when you go prone on it, genius. So it already did happen. All the OP is saying is that grass should lay flat for longer. I can get behind this. Personally I'd like grass to stay flat until server restart. You can track people that way too, which is something I've actually done in the mod. -
In the future, we should be able to create safezones for people to trade, learn and commune in.
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
Player constructions are already a confirmed goal for the dev team, so I imagine that eventually we will see this type of thing in the game. -
I'm now killing on sight.

Stop joining already established groups. I only pair with loners (if indeed I do decide to team up with anyone) for that very reason. Anyone in a group undoubtedly is talking to the other guys via Skype or Mumble or whatever, so it's easier for them to betray an outsider - whereas in a duo the playing field is more level. -
And so our integrity dies - O brave new world, that has such people in it.

New Stuff never found before and never mentioned in patch notes
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Funkmasterflex's topic in General Discussion
The only measurable difference between a .308 and 7.62 x 51 mm are a slight variation in bullet length, and the .308 has a little more power (62,000 psi, as compared to the 7.62's 50,000 psi). Otherwise they are basically interchangeable. Some people say it's dangerous to put .308 in a rifle designed for 7.62x51, but I'd say that's mostly just hypothetical bunk. I've seen people do more dangerous things, like firing 9mm out of a .40 cal pistol. -

Yeah, I don't think this is a nerf, it's a bug. The Mosin doesn't need to be nerfed. It holds 5 rounds in real life; that's how it should be in the game. It is a deadly, high powered weapon; that's how it should be in the game. If anything they just need wind and scope adjustment mechanics to make sniping more realistic, like A.C.E. That's all. I've seen plenty of people with Mosins get killed by m4's. It really isn't that over-powered.

It's so ugly.

PSA: Friendly servers make no sense ATM
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Magicks's topic in General Discussion
Comparisons to Hitler, wow you are so original. Look, nobody is forcing any one individual to play a certain way - quite the opposite, in fact. However, one could easily argue that a server which enforces a PVE only policy is actually forcing players to play without killing other players. The argument works both ways. You don't have to PvP on a PvP enabled server. Nobody ever said that. The other way around is actually the more fascist position. It has nothing to do with prejudice against a certain play-style. It has to do with how the game is constructed and intended by the developers to be played. You wouldn't join a CoD server with PvP disabled. WoW wouldn't allow servers that disable PvP inside PvP zones. Similarly, DayZ is designed to be a game that does not actively limit player decisions. You can still decide to be a pacifist on a normal, PvP enabled server. However, without the danger of other humans which can be hostile towards you, you are actively diminishing the overall gameplay goals, as set out by the devs. There really isn't any "E" to "P" against. What, the five zombies on the whole map that die to a single melee hit? There's just nothing there to play. Maybe once they get the zombie numbers up into the thousands and have private hives I could understand; but as it stands right now the only reason for a "PvE" server is to gather loot. -

It's not fine. It's specifically against the server hosting rules. -

Yeah, I don't think they're so dumb that they would overlook such an obvious design detail. -
M4 in your hands and Mosin on your back, or visa versa?

The only con is that you have to put one of them down to change weapons. It's not a very rich discussion topic. -

Bath salts man, what can you do? -
Bullshit. Hackers would just hack and give themselves "xp," thus gaining skills. It wouldn't change jack shit. Nor would the price point. The more expensive the game is, the more hackers can sell their hacks for and get more profit.
