The map is NOT balanced right now.

Just look at the northern half of the map. There are a bunch of road networks that don't go anywhere. It's alpha. Of course there going to keep working on the map. Ivan has confirmed that many times.

    SA needs more story.

Verrry true... More randomized events could really add to this game. The community seems to have a natural bias against it but I've found that within the context of full PvP like we have in DayZ, those randomized events can add a great deal of context. The reason is that adding certain environment challenges does not remove other players from the game. Heli crashes are a perfect example. It was one of those things which you came upon with zero prior knowledge, but even still there is a huge element of paranoia because you're thinking "who could be watching me from that treeline? Who else sees the smoke?" ect. So yes, it needs to be skillfully done, but more randomness and events on the map would add a lot to the game. Oh, I saw another camera topic. It wasn't yours? I suppose it's a popular idea. Maybe we all had it at once. :P

I think what you mean is context. I would agree, it would be nice to see a more apocalyptic looking world with areas that have a sort of purpose behind them which you can infer. Also zombies. I can't wait to see hoards of scary zombies. It will change the game quite a bit. Also, a camera object would add a lot of story. Maybe you could find a little digital camera and combine a battery with it, and take photos. When someone kills you or finds you dead, they could inspect it and see all the photos you took along your journey, and maybe start adding their own. That would be very cool, but I can foresee issues with storing all those screenshots... Then again, when the camera gets destroyed or lost, all those shots would disappear so, perhaps it's possible.

"Must have's" when vehicles are implemented.

Well, I have to say, keys work pretty well in Epoch, and I think a fair hot-wiring system is totally necessary as it applies balance. Also the ability to salvage certain parts from the car should be possible, like Epoch. I agree exactly with what you say about hotwiring a car once and then it can be started without the key. But it requires that you break the window to unlock the car, and even then it should not give you access to the trunk, which would contain a player's gear. It would be a funny moment to stumble upon a car that you had the key for but got stolen, and be able to open the trunk and find a stash of your old stuff.

"Must have's" when vehicles are implemented.

There are mods of Arma 2 that enable shooting out of helicopters, so it seems reasonable to think this is possible. Also, vehicles need a better repair/maintenance system, and also keys and hot-wiring. Starting a vehicle is not as easy as just getting in. Hot-wiring should require tools, and time. Whereas if you have a key to a vehicle, you can lock the doors, and of course start it very quickly.

How is your mental state? :-) [Future evolution of Dayz]

Why did you write your post with all the parts of your sentences on different lines? I couldn't even read it because of that horrid format.

    Better music.

The official word from Mr.R was that there will be no ambient music. The beautiful silence of the wilderness is your soundtrack. I don't mind. The music was distracting and it took away from my situational awareness.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TEST DAYZ!

 Everything else... #Alpher. You are testing an unfinished product. The fact that you are able to play the game at all clearly demonstrates that it is indeed possible to test the game. You are able to connect to a server are you not?

    Hackers all over place

Oh for crying out loud. It's alpha people. AS IN NOT COMPLETE. And ffs. The mods are not "deleting all hacking threads." They deleted one thread which linked hacks. That's perfectly reasonable moderating. Whiners go home.

    Any good books?

I started Heritage of the Sioux, but I lost it and haven't found another copy yet. Another interesting thing about books is that you can put one on your quick bar and read it while unconscious. Good way to take up the time, considering you die if you log out.

Dont you guys think (payday masks)

I kind of like the masked murderer thing. It fits in the world of DayZ. Sort of reminds me of the ol' gang, itty to do their ultra-violence and beat the red red kroovy out of vecks.

    Reduce triangle counts in cities

Aren't we talking about DayZ and not Arma 3 here?

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?

That image was made in Photoshop by someone on reddit to show how they thought night time should look.

    Hackers all over place

I have not encountered a single hacker in the game.

Rocket, Consider Dogs as a "Humanity System"

It's a novel idea but.. realistic? No. Dogs don't have a "moral compass." A well trained K9 will attack anyone on their handler's command. They don't really care if you're a good guy or a bag guy. You feed it, so it grows dependent on you. I do like the idea of the dog being able to detect other people, but based on humanity? Not so much. A non-bandit player might still kill you.

    The Map?

Oh goodness. For the last time, the map has not been down-scaled. Ignore that thread. It's bogus. If anything, the map is actually larger due to the areas that are being added up north.

    Hackers all over place

They fixed vulnerabilities in THE FIRST DAMN PATCH. How is that not top priority?

    Nope.

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?

I'm afraid that realism has never been the name of the game. It's supposed to be authentic. Authentically, I can navigate myself in a dark night. Also, you have to take playability into account. Again, you cannot simulate every aspect of realism. There is a compromise. Zombies aren't real either. Nor would you kill on sight any human being you saw in the apocalypse. How is that realistic, exactly?
  21. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?

We can. I'm only saying that at some point, realism is kind of bogus. In real life, your eyes automatically adjust to varying light levels. In real life, you can touch the environment. In real life, even sighted people have limited echolocation abilities. In real life, you can smell odors. You simply can't simulate that kind of "feel" for your surroundings in a game, which only gives us 2 ways of perceiving the environment - sight and sound. There has to be a balance.
  22. SalamanderAnder (DayZ)

Why do we already have so many 24/7 daylight servers?

... It's a game, dude. The point is we have a dichotomy here. Either a: you make night pitch black. Since flashlights don't work very well and beam right through buildings, nobody is going to play the game this way. b: make it black and white. Well great, realism, but then people just jack up gamma and brightness to have night vision, which isn't very realistic at all anyway. c: make night time bearable to some extent and at least somewhat pretty. The bottom line is that the developers have to draw a compromise between realism and basic playability. If night is impossible to play, then nobody will play at night. I for one would not mind playing at night if it at least had some level of visibility, and also if flashlights had shadows and ambient reflective light. A simple solution to the gamma problem is to only render light for a very minimal distance around you during the dark. Anything further away than 50- 100 m should be totally pitch. There has to be a way to achieve this effect. And for the record, the human eye does perceive color in darkness. It just perceives different colors. If you would have read the article you posted, you would see that is true. "In the human eye cone cells are nonfunctional in low light – scotopic vision is produced exclusively through rod cells which are most sensitive to wavelengths of light around 498 nm (green-blue) and are insensitive to wavelengths longer than about 640 nm (red)." You still see color. You just see more blue and green rather than red and orange.

How would you use the inventory screen?

    Are blood types implemented?

I've seen lots of blood test kits. Hint: they're usually found in hospitals. Who would have thought...

    Reduce triangle counts in cities

 Haha, you beat me to it. Pager, we aren't talking about spawning items at all. We are discussing ways of cleaning up the rendering load to give players better framerates. So say your 100 m away from a town. Why does your client need to draw all the loot inside those buildings? It could just wait to render them until you enter the house. That way, all those polygons and lighting aren't putting load on your GPU.
