Rocket said he optimized 4000 Zombies on map for now ...
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
There are not 4000 zombies on the map right now. He said that they need to optimize hyperthreading for servers before zombies and loot items can work simultaneously. -
Storage Containers/MedKits Redundancy
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to Mallow88's topic in General Discussion
Yep. I had three backpacks within backpacks on my last character. However, this does not work with med kits or ammo boxes. Both of those containers only hold medical items or ammo, respectively. -
Put it in your hands.

Lol. I just imagined someone trying to shove a carboard box full of ammo into a rifle. Unpack it first!

This is 100% untrue. Just google "subsonic 5.56" and you will see why. The problem with 5.56 in particular is that it is an extremely light bullet. A subsonic 5.56 round would have trouble even hitting a target at 200m, because the slightest breeze will throw it off course. Anything further than that, and not only are you unlikely to hit the target, it won't even have much penetration power. A subsonic 5.56 round is not even powerful enough to cycle the bolt of the gun. Hence why only very few specialty manufacturers make them. The purpose of a suppressor is to a: conceal the original source of the shot - not the supersonic crack - and b: protect the hearing of the user.

The problem with programming in particular is that when lots of different people write little pieces of code, it can be even harder to make those little bits work together than it was to write them in the first place. Little bugs can aggregate and create huge problems and incompatibilities which can grind progress down to a stand-still. And for the record, shooters like CoD and BF3 are not attempting anything close to what DayZ is trying to accomplish. They aren't really comparable projects. Not only does DayZ have to have pretty realistic physics and simulation, it also has to store literally every little thing you do to a database so it can be persistent, on an enormous landmass.

Yes but as I said, rocket has in the past publicly talked about how they were bringing all sorts of new staff including programmers, animators, artists, mappers, ect. Even with a large workforce, programming is a complex and challenging process which takes time. There's lots of design, trial and error, architecture which must be written, and bugfixing. Even then, too many hands in the pot can spoil the sauce.

Throwing money at a problem does not immediately solve it. Software development takes time. Learn some patience people. Also, your "numbers" seem to be wrong. There might be five publicly active devs, but they have an entire office suite to themselves. They've already been taking on a bunch of new hires. Rocket even said they were getting new people back in September. I can assure you, there are more than five people working on this project.

I had a pristine suppressor before my character got wiped and I can confirm they are only aesthetic at the moment.

Scripting already rampant...
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to smthistle's topic in General Discussion
 It proves that level hacking is possible in other MMO's, so why wouldn't it be possible in DayZ? And you want the game to be $80? All I can say is, thank goodness Dean Hall won't pay attention to stupid posts like these. /endofpointlessargument -
I really don't think spawning people close to where they died is a good idea. If anything, the game should spawn you as far away from your place of death as possible, so you can't simply re-engage the person who killed you and get your gear back.

"Private" gear farming servers are now a thing
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to AmirDayz's topic in General Discussion
I hate to break it to you, but this was always a thing, even in the mod. Also, any player could theoretically go to Balota or whatever and log into a 1-2 player server, get fully kitted up in a matter of minutes, and hop back to the original server. So it's not really a "privilege." If anything those server owners are dumb for wasting their money on loot that you could otherwise get for free. -

Uh, I don't even know what you mean by that, but okay... -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9C5Ot0H0ZU How is this possible then? You're arguing with a wall. The facts are facts. How do they get away with giving themselves items and teleporting? They already do this. They already give themselves abilities other people don't have. How does the server not "magically" detect those things? Do yourself a favor and shut up, because you clearly don't have any clue what you are talking about. Calling someone "kid" is internet speak of a fucking child. Get over yourself. Nobody wants skills in this game anyway so just get out of here with that crap. -

By hacking. Genius. -
Put any maps you have in the quick bar. That lets you view it.

Lol are you joking? A skill tree would only make hacks more effective because hackers would give themselves skills and wouldn't have to spend time leveling up, whereas legit players would. It would be even more imbalanced. Think before you try to back up some flimsy argument with the topic at hand. Furthermore. Enough with these stupid threads. "rocket is a fag"? Really? Because hackers attack literally every game in existence. Just because it's alpha and anti-cheat hasn't been enabled yet doesn't mean it's going to stay that way forever. Stop being so melodramatic you fucking whiners. "Oh no I lost all that lewt which took me a grand total of 30 minutes to gather I'm going to kill rocket and then myself!" lol. It's a game. Relax. It will be fixed. Can we move on now? -

Because they're pussies who can't handle their shit, that's why. -
Bullets do ricochet. I saw a video where a guy accidentally shot someone when he was shooting the ground near the player's feet.
