How will flying work? Simulator or Arcade?

...Did you even watch the Take on Helicopter video? It doesn't require a controller. You just have to operate the switches and do takeoffs and pre-flight properly, otherwise you aren't going anywhere. I'm fine with basic keyboard controls while in flight, but taking off in an aircraft is not just "common sense." Have you ever seen a teenager try to drive a standard transmission car? lol.

How will flying work? Simulator or Arcade?

Lol um, okay. Take an average civilian, throw him in the cockpit, and make him fly with no prior training or without studying a manual of some sort. Have fun not even getting off the ground. All I'm saying is that it should have some degree of simulation, which naturally makes things difficult. People don't just "learn" to fly a helicopter on their own, they take pilot courses with a qualified instructor who also has control of the stick. If you actually flew helicopters, you would know that... And even still, my post is agreeing with you. Anyone can do it. However, it should be far more complicated than it is in Arma. For crying out loud, you press one button to turn on the helicopter, and the rest is just like Bf4. It simply is not that easy in reality. You have to do preflight checks. You have to start the helicopter properly. All of that takes some degree of knowledge. It would be funny to see people getting into a standalone helicopter and pressing Q repeatedly going "Y U NO WORK HELO?" I like how ToH actually has switches and panels that you have to interact with from within the helicopter. Those are things a player can easily devote to memory, but they have to take the time to do it. I think just for kicks, helicopters in this game should have Russian control panels too. And each helicopter should have slightly different controls and panels, just like in real life. Not all helicopters are equal. You might be able to fly a little training chopper, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to figure out a Hind or a Blackhawk.

How will flying work? Simulator or Arcade?

I'm willing to learn complex flight procedures from ToH to fly in DayZ. Honestly, it should be as realistic and difficult as possible. Flying a helicopter is no joke, and players who learn to do it would have more existential value beyond their gear. It would be cool if they could utilize the book system in game to add a flight manual that a player literally has to read and memorize to be able to operate a helicopter. Ideally we might also see surgery and medical procedures, and vehicle maintenance based on this kind of real player knowledge. The more simulation, the better. Stupid KoS kids should have a hard time doing anything if they don't learn how. That's how it works in real life. Want to fix an engine, well you've got to learn. I mean really learn. Not some watered down, gimmicky "skill" system or anything like that. I mean actually devoting procedures to memory.

    [Question] Standalone Data Mining

I don't get it. What harm could he do with more info on the game, which is literally available to everyone? It's not like knowing how much a helmet protects you somehow makes it easier to hack. He isn't asking for binaries here. He's just asking for solid info on how items in the game work. Ridiculous.

    Getting injured in the SA

It's pretty simple actually. If a zombie hits you, and you were bleeding, then obviously you have wounds. Zombies have a chance of giving you an infection. So disinfecting hits from a zed is always a good idea, as that prevents infections. Easy.

    [Question] Standalone Data Mining

That makes no sense. It's like someone asking you directions to the hospital and in response you say "well if you don't know where it is, then you don't need to go there do you?"

    Some thoughts about melee combat

Aiming your gun at times is problematic. Either way, it comes down to personal preference more than anything else. What else is mouse down, mouse right, mouse left, than a fancy keybind? If you are binding those mouse movements to certain attacks, there's no reason why a movement key and mouse click combo wouldn't also work. It sounded to me like you wanted some kind of dynamic physics animation that would track your analogue movements, like the wii or something, which isn't really possible with this engine. So either way, you'd have to use set animations and a keybind.

    Zoombies

I believe it's actually a glitch. It happened to me when there was another player nearby, and I've seen zombies get stuck in one place doing the attack animation repeatedly when they try to chase me. So basically how it goes down is, survivor runs past zombies, zombies get stuck trying to attack survivor, but they glitch so they can't move, and therefore you see zombies stuck attacking each other.

Punch KO, one punch and I'm down

You can block with melee weapons. And also, I survive pretty much all my melee engagements by sidestepping. I don't know where your pulling these things out of but they smell suspiciously like shit.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game

Agreed. I want A.C.E sniping. We already have wind in the Standalone, interacting with trees and grass. I feel like it should be relatively easy to use it to affect bullet trajectory as well.

    Oculus Rift = Pay2Win

Oh boy, I get to use this for the second time today. You're aware that TrackIr has been around since Arma 1 and that allows you to turn your head independently of your mouse movement.... Right? Could call that pay2win as well.

I saw this as well. Funny stuff.

    Some thoughts about melee combat

Personally I find it much easier and it has been used in many games and mods (Like Pirates, Vikings, and Knights) with good success. It's actually easier for the engine to handle different keybinds than to handle mouse movement, like I said. You also have to consider desync in this game in particular. It's very likely going to be impossible in practice because the server is going to have to detect your quick, frantic mouse movements and then try and translate those to some kind of move. As stated above, this engine in particular is not suited to doing animations in the way you are describing. It would be horribly glitchy.

    Some thoughts about melee combat

I would prefer a chivalry style movement combo system, pushing w + mouse click does a jab, a or d + mouse does an appropriate side swing, s + mouse does an overhand attack, that sort of thing. The problem with dynamically following the mouse movement like you are suggesting is that the RV engine is not particularly good at making up animations on the fly, or smoothing out different animations together. It's easier to have a few set moves to keep things relatively simple.

Connecting to the same server on the same network?

I'm able to connect to the same servers with my roommate just fine, so there must be a way. I'm not sure how to fix the problem though, since I've never encountered the problem to begin with.

no water? Drink your own piss...

That is actually false. Many people have resorted to drinking their own urine in survival situations where they were trapped or stranded, and lived because of it. In ancient Egypt it was considered to be a medical treatment. In fact, urine has some antibiotic properties. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/urine-the-bodys-own-health-drink-467303.html In high concentrations, yes. It can be dangerous. But urine is basically 95% water. You can also distill urine to separate the water and the other salts and contents, which produces pure water. Les Stroud did it in the desert.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game

Training someone on any weapon literally takes all of 30 minutes to an hour for basic proficiency, and they can practice themselves after that. They are not that hard to get used to. I used to work at a gun range and I've taught a seven year old girl to shoot bullseyes with a handgun in a matter of minutes so... anecdotal evidence would prove otherwise. Ironically, kids and females in particular are typically the best students when it comes to learning firearm proficiency in my experience, because they have a healthy respect for a gun and it's power - unlike a young man who gets this idea in his head that he's some kind of "badass" or whatever when he gets a hold of a gun. I've shot everything from .22 to .50 cal sniper rifles and the technique for every weapon is basically the same. Rifles are even easier to use than handguns since they are more barrel heavy and have a more balanced two hand operation. Any child can learn to use a rifle, whether or not it's bolt action or semi auto makes literally zero difference. The hardest thing about using a gun isn't even the shooting element; it's reloading, clearing jams, coping with being shot at, and combat tactics. That's where the really intensive training lies.

Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game

While I DO agree we should have more civilian equipment, I don't know why there is such a misconception on the internet that military guns are somehow "harder to use" than "normal" guns. Guns are guns. Explain these pictures, please. Yeah, military guns man, how do those work? Must be rocket science or some shit.
