As said, use the space-bar. However, I bound the "lower (or was it 'raise'?) weapon" to one of my mouse buttons, allowing me to click it once and the flashlight/whatever will stay up.

Really? I am playing on a laptop that doesn't really get good frames, and I'm getting 30 FPS average, maybe 20+ in cities. 40+ in fields and such. It's fine for me and I am playing on normal. -

Ran into two guys on my first character, we traded and helped each other out. The friend I'm playing with now met another armed guy who didn't kill him. It's rather nice. -

I would say it is the latter reason. Chat works for me---I did, however, find that out in a friendly encounter on the coast at Solnichniy. Met a nice guy and we talked for a bit.
