It's hard to tell, unless you already have a character that's alive. If you logged off somewhere, and changed to a different server later on, only to find yourself at the shore or the character selection screen, you're not playing on a Hive server. If you appeared where you logged off, or somewhere close, you're on a Hive server.

But servers -do- choose time of day. For example; There are German servers that are GMT-8. -

Don't "looking for group" -type of threads belong to Survivor HQ/General? Friendly or bandit, I can do both, though I aim to always play friendly, even in a bandit group. Usually as a navigator/path-finder. Google lies. Ask, don't look up. -
Some. But at the same time, some will stop working. Same with rolling around in the dirt will make your gun jam.

Using guns underwater will make them unusable, most of the times you can't even take one shot. In real life, that is. So just fix zombies.

You know, threads like this should be considered as spam and eventually rack up to a warning point. "OMG" as a title doesn't really say.. ANYTHING. Especially when all the OP does is complain about losing their stuff. That aside, yes, that does suck, especially for being banned from the server. What you should do, is make a thread to the server category, and report the server and admin in question. The server will most likely get blacklisted, and not be able to host a DayZ server anymore.

Server messages / MOTD is set by server host. It could be legit. I can confirm seeing the quote "The DayZ team is hugely appreciative of the host of this server - They would like to have sex with NailZ." -
