There is wind in ARMA 2 Singleplayer. It's not carried over to multiplayer by default because it would cause too many problems to server hosts. (Lag, stress, etc.)

You should thank the DayZ Hive-server because it only saves your gear every 60-120 seconds. (Supposedly 60 seconds, but sometimes it bugs.)
