That's probably not happening, the devs have said (again, don't quote me on this yet, I should already be in bed but I came back to check the forum) that they're against complete security. Locks? Sure, but there will be ways through them. Even if I'm making this all up, this is probably the best I would hope for.

It's relatively simple to check if a player would spawn near any player-based objects like walls and gates, and their spawn location could then be adjusted to be a certain distance away from those structures, and I *think* this was mentioned by the devs, but don't quote me on that yet because I'm too tired to go find it.

Has hacking been fixed on DayZ standalone?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to zigglr's topic in General Discussion
The game is already "server-authoritative," meaning the server is in charge of most things (unlike in ARMA where the client tells the server what's going on), but not enough things are that hacking would be very hard or almost impossible. An example of a game that I can think of where so much is server-side that hacking is almost impossible would be League of Legends. -

DAYZ Status from a famous Youtube blogger
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to GunnyITA's topic in General Discussion
Resident ""expert"" here. According to the devs themselves, BI wants to stay away from third-party tech and for that reason they also have little experience with third-party tools. But "why not use the ARMA 3 engine then?" The result would have been basically the same. Regardless of which engine they started with, they were going to rewrite most of it and create Enfusion in the end, because ARMA 3 (or any other engine BI has) wasn't "able to do what DayZ wanted to do." You can get a couple bits of info in the Q&A videos with the Enfusion lead dev. -
After Long break i understand why nobody plays DayZ.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to exacomvm's topic in General Discussion
As someone who still plays The Division, I can confirm that you tend to need a mag or few for some enemies, but you also have to at least be on target with every shot. lol Like others already said, run and gun is a bad idea without practice because of how precise bullet trajectories are. (Based on the barrel of the gun, not the center of your screen.) And to be fair you had some pretty long lag time in the first clip. You got at least two hits in (including the very first shot as you were bringing your gun up) in the first clip, we can't tell if the last 3 shots hit because of the lag. In the second clip your gun was obviously all over the place and you only managed to get one clear hit in the knee. You were shooting way too far right the entire time. You can call the firefights trash, but keep in mind that includes your own tactics. P.S. Also the weapon handling is changing in 0.63 if that's any relief. -

That's a very loaded question and I don't think the answer is any of the ones you're offering. -

According to Q&A videos from last year, about 15 engine programmers (not sure if there are gameplay programmers separately), about 50 QA, and the rest. (project lead, producers, designers, artists, console teams, etc.) It does sound like a lot when you just say some ambiguous number and leave it at that. -
Local servers - Connecting failed
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to cupnoodle's topic in Troubleshooting
If you've spent the entire 2 hours troubleshooting, I'd recommend just getting a refund and trying again later. (I don't have any suggestions either.) Especially with the next major update making server hosting available to everyone for free, your chances of finding a proper server (or making your own) will go up. -
We're seeing an uptick of these types of posts, and they're referring to Game Bans (not VAC bans, not Global Bans) which can have a set duration. If the ban was supposed to expire and it hasn't, contact Steam. But I do not think the Game Bans will disappear from your profile even after they have expired.

I guess this counts as downplaying but I think there's a very distinct difference between "Yeah it's happening, 0.63 is coming out this year" and "We'll try our best to get it our by the end of the year." Also the "in beta we trust, deliver we must" phrase didn't even exist until mid-2017 after 0.62 was already out, and it wasn't about a release date, it was about the upcoming features. But I don't think that matters now that they've said in bolded words that "0.63 and any updates up to 1.0 will happen in 2018." I'm incredibly glad if that comes true, but at the same time they haven't given any real dates which makes me feel uncertain. Now we're out of the "no dates / when it's ready" zone without even having a concrete date, and what if something happens? I personally wish they had stuck to the following until 0.63 was out, then make estimates for 1.0 after the big confidence boost. -
I tried playing the mod early this year, but had a hard time finding a server that wasn't littered with vehicles and other non-vanilla stuff. Got any suggestions?

Worn clothing shouldn't effect survivability
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
It really depends on how far the "protection" goes. I don't think there's any significant difference between wearing a worn vs pristine jacket when you're getting shot at with a rifle. But these things will be changing in 0.63 as well. Here's what Mirek said, and it's already implemented for the new update. I don't really have an opinion about condition affecting protection from the environment. It does make sense from a gameplay standpoint, at least. Why have condition if it barely affects anything? (Maybe rolling around in dirt would visually change the texture to a worn one, without changing the actual condition. Mod ideas!) -
Dean Hall left Bohemia after 2014.

DayZ doesn't require any other games to play. What error(s) are you getting, or what are you trying to do that isn't working?

I've got nothing on that one, and now you got me second-guessing myself, lol. Maybe @Baty Alquawen could clarify if we'll be able to control the cows/sheep in some way, or we can wait and see. -

Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Yuval's topic in General Discussion
I've already argued that DayZ was released too early long before today over on the Steam forum. Sure, I admit it, but what does this achieve? You still didn't get the timeline right so I'm going to be very concise: 1. Dean makes contract with BI, and says he wants to go to Everest. BI agrees to give him paid leave for it. 2. Dean was on top of Everest in May 2013. 3. DayZ releases in EA in December 2013. 4. Interview comes out in February 2014 about Dean leaving by 2015. (A year in advance.) I'm busy with multiple things, sorry about that. Are you going to show me examples of the devs "praising Early Access?" -

Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Yuval's topic in General Discussion
1. You can't blame "everything that is wrong with DayZ" on any one person. 2. Dean didn't just "up and leave," you don't even have the timeline right. 2.a. The Everest hike happened before the EA launch in May 2013. It was in his contract that he would go. (Linked in the next part.) 2.b. He told us a full year in advance that he would eventually leave. There was a big article about it. DayZ was never his dream project, it just blew up on its own but he had no intentions of sticking with it, ever. Even in an interview about the Everest thing in 2013, he said his plan was to open up his own game studio in New Zeland, which is exactly what he did by the end of 2014 when his contract with Bohemia ended. 3. Dean is just one guy, and said he wouldn't be a good project lead. Why would you want to force a guy with that mindset to stay on a project, even if you could? The team he left behind and the person who took over his spot know the vision for DayZ, it has just been a long road to get there. 4. If there is anything to "come clean about," it has already happened. I don't know where you're even finding the devs actively praising Early Access, I'd be curious to see the context. -
My issues with the Game - Feedback
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Roecky's topic in General Discussion
You can and should offer criticisms and feedback during Early Access. That's the whole point. You don't have to agree with it, and in that case you could offer a counter-argument and then have a discussion that way. Not just "it's not a game, come back later." -

I don't think they were saying you'll be able to domesticate animals for yourself. "the most of the progress has been done on new herding behavior for domesting animals." It was about animations for already domesticated animal species (eg. cow, chicken) and their herding behavior while roaming around ("domesting"). At least, that would be majorly more logical, since there hasn't been any talk about domesticating animals until now, and it came from the animation team no less!
