Dayz standalone MMO direction.. Suggestions.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to zimsabre's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ will be MMO-like. Not MMORPG. There will be no instances, it will simply be a set of servers like there are now, with a map called Chernarus Plus. It will be like Chernarus, but a lot of things added and tweaked. (Like almost, if not all buildings being enterable.) And it's not ever going to be "true MMO," as there won't be more than about 50-60 players at most in one server at a time. Mount&Blade is not an MMO, and that game can support battlefields of 120 people and over. -
I'm New here and Hoping to download:

Step 0.5: Install ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead and run both games. (Because they install some updates that you need.) Note: I assume you realize that these games have to be bought through Steam. Step 1: Go to http://www.dayzcommander.com/ Step 2: Click "Get DayZ Commander" at the very bottom of the page. It's a green button on the right side. Step 3: Install DayZ Commander and run it. Step 4: Click "install/update" at the top-right side of the DayZ Commander window. Step 5: Click "install" on ARMA 2 and DAYZ. (Make sure it says "(Latest)" in the drop-down menu.) Step 6: Join any server you want, right on the DayZ Commander window. There are different types of servers; private hives and DayZ-Hives, and some servers are running different maps, even, which you can install from the DayZ Commander like you did with the ARMA 2 and DAYZ updates. Edit; I'll do my best to give you a brief description of the differences between hives once I get back home, if someone hasn't beaten me to it. Edit2; So! Private hives. These are what I believe most of the DayZ servers are, nowadays. They are separate from one another(hence the word private), and if you will start with a new character in every server, assuming you haven't been playing on that specific server before. (Progress is still saved, though. So if you want to continue from where you left off, just join the same server again.) And DayZ-hives? Well, these servers are all connected to a single server, hosted by Rocket, the main developer for DayZ. If you play on ANY of the DayZ-hive servers, your progress is transferred to ALL other DayZ-hive servers. That includes, your location, your health, your gear/loot, everything. It's rather useful for things like night-time. If it gets too dark and you can't see, you can just join a DayZ-hive server that has day-time. Though this can lead into abuse like getting yourself a rifle and climbing to a roof, then switching between servers until you see someone and kill them. -
Say hello to Canyonlands! http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/109037-canyonlands-dayz-inspired-game/

Let's just resolve this ENTIRE TOPIC right now, so nobody else has to reply and make each other look even more stupid. Yes. GUIDs were made so players would be easily identifiable in a safe manner. You cannot be banned by others based on your GUID, and your CD-Key cannot be stolen with it. Edit; (Even hacking sites will tell you this. Even they know it's not possible.) /THREAD

Well, seeing that in most apocalyptic novels and movies, there have been at least remote implications of cannibalism due to lack of food. So it would actually be a rather authentic option for those with low humanity(morals). Perhaps it would become an option for anyone if their food-indicator was blinking? (Since that's when you're starting to slowly starve to death, and I believe a lot of people would chance human flesh if there was no other option.)

I don't think he knew your exact location; Hence the no returning of fire. -
Discussion of the standalone defecation\poo feature
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is not aiming to be one of the popular games that are "out there," cashing in tons of money. (According to Rocket, at least.) Like he said in Eurogamer presentation, he doesn't like cautious steps. He wants to try things that people don't want or like. It started in a "weird" way in the first place. Huge(-ish) open-world where you're supposed to spawn in with nothing, not even instructions or story (like Minecraft) and have the fear/annoyance of permadeath, and by playing, you risk running around for two hours, only to find empty cans and maybe get shot in the end. How does that sound fun? Actually, we already know. People used to complain about being shot by a bandit, making those "call-out" threads like "TO THE GUY WHO SHOT ME IN CHERNO, YOU ARE AN ASS, AND I WILL FIND YOU, AND MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE." (Not directed at anyone, by the way.) Edit; Yeah, this, pretty much. We don't know all the details yet. what if you couldn't even visually see and feces laying around every corner? What if you just had some option in the menu that made your character sit idle for a while, and then just leave. And give us an indicator on the HUD of some sort? It was never said that "we will make sure that every bit of crust is modeled and textured in detail so not to leave even the smallest bit not-up-to-standards." -
It was in the changelogs. So yes.

Discussion of the standalone defecation\poo feature
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks, for all this time I thought it was just rumors and such. I forsee many hilarious and bizarre things happening in the standalone. -
Re-watched the beginning of the video and it does seem like you are. Saw the barrel of the gun at 1:15. Not surprised of the 1-hit-kill thing with an anti-material rifle.
-
Private hives exist now. You can no longer tell if the server has a custom loot table or not. Edit; I only watched the SVD-part, and saw a glimpse of AS50, but SVD is not a hacked weapon even in the vanilla DayZ-hive servers.
-
I noticed some funny things in this video. 1. Your shots are 1-hit-kill. SVD is not a 1-hit-kill weapon last I used it. Not to the chest. 2. You don't gain any muders in your debug screen -- Which is also disabled currently. 3. Speaking of the debug screen.. It says "Monky Monitor" on it. That's a hack for DayZ, confirmed with a google search of the name. (Nevermind that, seems to be an anti-hack hack. Since it activates for everyone on the server, I can't tell if it's because of you.)

Unconscious for a looong time
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to midgetnamedgordo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Depending on what server and location you're in, I might be able to help. If it's anything other than Namalsk or Chernogorsk, I don't know the map well enough, and cannot help. -
The save option was removed from tents and vehicles. It now saves automatically. I think it's supposed to prevent duping more or less. Or at least make it harder.
-
It's a rather common glitch. It used to be a lot more common, and instead of water, you'd spawn in "debug forest" or "debug plains." Basically your only way out is to walk into a direction and hope for the best, while waiting for your character to die of starvation. There used to be a Respawn option, but it was removed due to literally everybody using it to pick a place to spawn instead of using it for legitimate reasons. (To get back to their body/killer, and the rest used it to get to their friends faster.)
-
Just a bug. Some people do 2-5 duplicate threads. As for the CD key, you're not getting help here. 1. You're BE banned, and therefor labeled as a hacker. 2. You've bought a stolen CD key from a reseller, so fuck you. Someone is getting banned because of you, and they'll get the same answer as you when they come asking for help.

dayZ needs more materials to build with!
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to underdog1209's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There will be "base" building, hideouts, underground buildings(storages/enterable areas), or the sort. One of the DayZ staff posted some concept art of a building system that allowed you to make a box/room underground and camoflage it with the ground itself. It's somewhere in the Russian sub-forum. -

Private hives and whitelisting.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Cyan-Eyed's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I believe the GUID is required to even use a whitelist. The GUID itself cannot be used to gather any info on you, nor your CD-key. -
Private hive Vs. Official Hive
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to solus84's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yes I have. My current "home" server is a private hive. Another good thing is new maps, custom loot tables, custom day/night cycle, etc. (It's near-impossible to find sniper rifles in the server Im in. And it's running the Namalsk map and the time is frozen at 9:30PM.) -
Private hive Vs. Official Hive
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to solus84's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As far as Private Hives go: + No "phasewalking." (Log out of one server, move into position in another, and return.) + Whitelists. No more hackers. Safe for established communities. - Performance can be worse, as private hives are not quality-controlled. -
Will my computer be able to run?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to CyberOtter's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
RAM and Graphics card seem a little weak, but it will run. -
Some few private hive servers are actually using a plugin that enables "/w Player Message" The reason Im saying this, is because I don't think 'radios serving a purpose' is in the priority list for the mod, so you're better off waiting for the standalone that's coming out around December 21st.

[BAN appel] Ban by Admin before Kill
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to alma974's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Basically, he has found himself on the Community Ban-List. And wants to know why/how to get off of it, as he's claiming to be innocent. -

Have my beans, I totally agree. (Which is surprisingly rare now that I think about it.)
