So let me get this straight, as well. DayZ Standalone has to come out soon, or else it will fail because people will learn how to play the mod? I.. I have no words to describe how idiotic I find your logic. I don't think the English dictionary even has a word powerful enough to describe it. So you think it would be an absurd idea that spending MORE time with the Standalone would allow the developers to add MORE content? Most people aren't even playing the original Chernarus map anymore, I assume. Even if people were still playing on the Chernarus map, there are going to be so many tweaks and changes all over the board that it will have people interested for a long time, assuming they enjoyed the mod as well. - Almost every building is made enterable. - More buildings and towns added altogether. (It's not exactly the same map, you know.) - Loot no longer spawns in a neat pile in one spot on the floor. - Zombies will act like actual zombies. No more zig-zagging or the decency to walk in-doors. - Infection/disease/pollution system. - Possible (simple?)crafting system. - Base-building(and farming?) system. - Realistic weather simulation and much-harder-to-fly helicopters. - Much more freedom as to what Rocket can actually change later on, because it's his game when it comes out. (Those are only the most major changes I can think of that were mentioned. There's a lot more, I assure you.) (Edit; Disclaimer: I'm not bashing the OP, only his reasoning. The guy is fine, but the post itself is not.) -

We most likely will be able to. In the mod we can't because the ARMA 2 engine doesn't support doing such actions while moving. Well, assuming you're holding a rifle or a pistol, what's stopping you from running and grabbing the gun on your side and use that? And it's not impossible to take a weapon off your back while running. I've done so on multiple occasions while doing Airsoft. -
I'm a little disappointed due to the fact that you didn't run into the first two anomalies. Because I think I recognized them, but I want to know for sure.

Just disconnect from the server. Everything is automatically saved. (Make sure to connect to the same server, though. To play it safe.)

DayZ is about realism and authenticity. How are you supposed to know where your friend is without your character having some kind of contact with theirs? (Skype and other third-party programs are somewhat of a solution, but you still can't pin-point your friend's exact location.) And you think that picking an approximate spawn area wouldn't get abused? -

If you were Global Banned, there is nothing anybody on these forums can do. The main developer, Dean 'Rocket' Hall is only the creator of a mod. He has no control over Global Bans by BattlEye. The mods on these forums are also powerless, as all they can do is moderate this forum, by locking/moving/editing posts/threads and banning those violating the forum rules. If you want to make a ban appeal on your Global Ban, please contact BattlEye, and wait for their response. If you cannot do one or the other, then there is no chance for you and frankly, should find another game to play. http://www.battleye.com/support.html - Information on how to appeal to Global Bans. Of course I'm not okay with that. But it's more of a case of immersion to me, at the moment. The thing is that if you are even able to entirely shove an AS50 to a backpack, it's just as realistic for someone to be able to silently pull it out of there without you noticing. This would be easily fixed in the Standalone simply by not allowing (primary)weapons to be put in your backpack, but tied on the outside of it instead, with the additional precaution of not allowing people to access backpacks unless they are behind the player wearing it. Edit; There is no way in hell that you can stuff a rifle into the bloody backpack!

Clubs/sticks, throwing items at players(and hitting them in the head), light/heavy objects like a baseball bat or a shovel, mixing medicine, using any weapon as a melee object, etc.

Like Macabre said, if the sleep-animation is supposed to work as a log-out timer, I'm totally okay with it. But if I understood you correctly, you're talking about making players' bodies persistent in the world, even after disconnecting completely. This I can't support, as the popular servers would be literally filled with newcomers' and regulars' bodies. And it would be a huge stress on the server(s). And, it's not possible to do in the mod anyway. Log-out timers have been "announced" to not work already by Rocket, long, long back.

Trust me, I know. Hell, I've even seen a video where a player gets shot and goes down bleeding with a broken bone and the shooting player comes over to finish him off and then check him for loot and the grounded player simply waits until the shooter is in distance, clicks on Open Backpack, takes a gun and shoots the shooter dead. (genius on one level, but totally taking advantage of a broken system on the other hand) Not even going to argue. I agree. The problem is, there's no sound, there's no player animation, there's NOTHING to indicate that another player who's standing right in front of you is accessing your backpack... Which, again, is WHY I edited my post(which you quoted), saying that I preferred the sound effects of someone trying to access your backpack rather than making it completely impossible, as that would also not be "authentic" (The word you should use is "realistic," as this is about realism, not authenticity.) Sorry, but thats just not what I consider 'realistic*' Redness for justice.

Oh I see, now. A sniper being butthurt because they were too busy with their tunnel vision to notice someone sneak up on them.. And if not, you were most likely afk, which gives all the more justification for someone being able to take your stuff and kill you with it. Or what happened? And; I prefer this solution to magically locking backpacks entirely. It makes more sense for other people to get behind you and grab stuff than you taking the stuff out yourself because of the fact that you are wearing the backpack and it's behind you.

This is already being implemented in the standalone as far as I know. Rocket is should be adding a trade system if I recall.

1. The mod probably will not run if you're missing one of the two games. But you can get ARMA 2: Free (Demo of ARMA 2), and it will work, though with worse graphics. 2. Just run Operation Arrowhead. That's all you need. You can even start it through DayZ Commander (The recommended patcher for beta patches of OA as well as all the DayZ compatible maps and the mod itself.) 3. OA has things like cover/base building from what I can tell. Not sure of all the things on how it's different, but you can construct some things in OA that you can't even have in ARMA 2. 4. That is entirely up to you. I recommend watching this video entirely: -

There is no DayZ Standalone Beta going on, and will not be going on anytime soon. Edit; It is a Tech Test that they're planning to do. And after that comes the Alpha. No Beta. Not for a long time. -
