one thing that bugs me about pvp whiners..
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Rifle Eyez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think what makes the game different to real life is the fact that we KNOW that just because we unload 8 buckshots into someone's chest, they'll be back after a while. We're only causing a speed-bump and a little rage, which is only amusing in most cases. In real life, we understand that if you shoot someone even once, they might never get up again. That person will be gone. And it's because of you. Most people can't/don't want to deal with that thought. Maybe because they can imagine what it would feel like to be on the other end of the gun, and realize how terrifying it is to see your end coming. TL;DR - DayZ is a game where nobody actually dies, unlike real life. -

Standalone Zombies a bit OTT?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Therewasawhatnow? They released a new devblog? *Searches* Edit; Found it. Edit2; SOMEBODY HOLD ME. Edit3; Alright, calmed down a bit and got to the zombie pathfinding part. The zombies -- even after the fix -- seem to follow the path where you were more or less at this point, still. Though later on it seems to work the way I'd imagine the most logical; The zombie moves in a straight line towards you. I hope Rocket is going to go with that idea for the pathfinding in the long run. Zombies trying to move in as straight line towards you as possible. (Of course obstacles kind of prevent that.) -

Friendly/Surrender signal, alternative to Q/E and lowering your weapon.
Dancing.Russian.Man posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Never seen a thread about this, nor did the search give any results. (Mandatory statement) We all know that lowering your weapon doesn't really do much, right? Mainly because it's barely noticeable, especially when not walking. And even then it's kind of threatening to see someone with their finger on the trigger and both hands on the gun. And the Q/E leaning still has a gun being pointed at you, making it not-so-friendly to look at. So what if, in the Standalone(and why not the mod), there was an animation to be added that worked similar to the lowering of weapon, except RAISING the weapon far above your head(with a straight arm) by the mid-section? This would be a clear indicator. Whether it's saying "I'm coming out, I'm not hostile." or a silent "I'm here." to a friend at a distance, I think it'd be a much better alternative to just lowering your weapon. And it wouldn't have to be any slower/faster to switch away from, because really, how hard is it to bring down your arm? Edit; I just realized that I managed to post this to the wrong section. FF- -

Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The sad thing about the salute is that you can't move while doing so, which is something I would like to keep with my raising-of-weapon animation suggestion. Not sure about the wave, might not have actually seen that being used ever. The whole drop-you-weapon-and-raise-your-arms kind of thing is more like something for banditry, which, again, isn't something I'm after with my suggestion. (As it's supposed to be something that you can identify yourself with as friendly without putting yourself at a major risk.) Though I agree that it would be a nice addition as well. -
Audible ranges of sound detection and zombie reactions
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It'll also make cleaning up towns easy-mode. Just throw a couple grenades and then double-time to the side, so when all the zombies gather around the spot where the sound came from, the town itself is left empty. It'd be nice if there was a chance of a zombie being deaf, having hard of hearing, or just generally not giving two fucks about an explosion like badasses. Edit; I mean, most cities are full of tall buildings. Loud sounds are going to echo like butts, so there'd be no way of a zombie locating all sounds, especially outside of the town. (Modern towns don't tend to have noticeable "echo" because of all the people and generally continuous noise. But if you walk around a town at 3AM in the morning when there are barely anybody there, yelling or making loud noises actually does echo. Open spaces also work as echo cancellation areas.) -
...Do you have ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead in your Steam library AND installed? Because the "DayZ mod" on Steam is just a folder with a couple files in it. It's useless on its own.

The most elegant solution to playerkilling on SA and possibly dayz mod
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to alanford's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Isn't that survival? To survive to live another day? Smartassery aside -- Reading your post now. Edit; Okay, so. Pretty much a general suggestion that some people before you have also suggested. Here's why I have my hopes up for the Standalone: - All loot is spawned at the start of the server. This means that certain parts of the map will run out of supplies like they would in real life, making it pointless doing multiple trips to cherno, elektro, etc. - All zombies are spawned at the start of the server. Meaning, we can clean them out, as they (from what I recall reading) only spawn in waves every couple hours if even that often. - Loot will be harder to find as it no longer spawns in a single pile on the floor. - Zombies no longer walk in-doors, and hopefully deal more damage to the player. - Infections and disease. Over 10 types of sickness, each with their own real-life symptoms and treatments. Also feces. - Natural water sources are polluted by disease (and dead bodies?) - Possibly no more magic-morphine that regrows bone tissue in a split-second. What I also hope is that above all else, they make AMMO more scarce out of all things. (I'm almost certain that they will.) And, even though I say "is" and "no longer," I don't actually know if any of those features are implemented yet. But I believe most of them are confirmed to be in the Standalone sooner or later. -

DayZ Steam doesn't start up
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to dulix11's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
For future reference; You're going to need it. http://steamcommunit...61175465159223/ You need to buy and/or install ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead before trying to launch DayZ. Edit; If you go look at .\Steam\Steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\, you'll notice how you have nothing else in there besides @dayz folder, with a few .dayz.bisign files in it. That's all the DayZ mod on Steam downloads on your computer. I've no idea why I bolded those parts. -
Cheaters. Server protection.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to korsakik's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Last I checked, you aren't allowed to have an active whitelist/password on your server if it's connected to the official DayZ-hive. Edit; Nope, I have no better things to say. I'm no server host. -
Maybe put in other enemies aside from infected? *Please don't kill me.*
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Galcian's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is, and will be the only case in which I approve of hats. I also approve the concept of infected animals, but no "mutated" zombies, ones more resistant to bullets, or non-zombified NPCs. -

How Serious do you get in DayZ?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Goreman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can't really take the game seriously as it currently stands. (The mod.) Not unless you have a group of at least 2 other people or are on a whitelisted server with a good community. (Looking at you, Balota Buddies.) -
Do Bodies Despawn When You Change Servers?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Wrathcaster's topic in New Player Discussion
Bodies should s-- Actually. I have no idea. I know they disappear when somebody disconnects right at the moment of their death. ("Combat logging") The body sinks into the ground never to be recovered. I also know that bodies disappear on server restarts. But I don't actually know what happens if you body has been there for a while and then you switch/disconnect from the server. -
http://steamcommunity.com/app/33930/discussions/1/864961175465159223/ I'm assuming you're playing with only the Steam version. You need to sort the servers by Mission and look for "DAYZ" Those servers are all part of the official DayZ-hive, but there are not a lot of them. Like the other guy said, it's highly recommended to get DayZ Commander from http://www.dayzcommander.com
