SA suggestion for zombie movement
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Ripred49's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The internets. You can have them. It's a nice suggestion that actually makes sense. In most games/movies, the zombies do at first turn towards you and maybe stumble a couple steps as if trying to figure out if they're hungry or not. And then the chase begins. -
DayZ Standalone suggestion
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to elitekiller0820's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm pretty sure Rocket confirmed this mechanic on his own a couple months back. -
Your processor is terrible for ARMA 2.

A chance is still a chance. Even with 1.98% chance to spawn, it is possible to find even multiple antibiotics in multiple spawn nodes, even if the likeliness of that happening is virtually 0%. Players aren't supposed to be the main threat. It wasn't meant to be that way and I doubt that Rocket wants to make that the main thing about DayZ. (That's why there have been things that were supposed to encourage co-operation, like wrecked vehicles and not being able to use bloodbags on yourself.) Personally I hope that they don't raise the spawn rates for antibiotics, and won't turn the zombies back to "herp derp gonna catch player. hurr dat invincible player, gonna catch."

A question about frames. (Stand-alone)
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to strongtent's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Obviously they can lower the quality of the game(through graphical options, etc) and try to optimize the game for older hardware, but they can't really write "Here's where the player is going to have 120 FPS." in the code, and expect the game to care. -
..Then what about all the zombies? Those just fell out of the sky to haunt you? The difference between a movie and DayZ is that you are NOT the main character. You are not the guy that has every convenient little thing happen to them so that in the end, they survive. You are the commonfolk. You are the cattle that gets slaughtered mercilessly, with no real escape ever. Survived this time? Don't worry, it'll start all over around the next corner.

A question about frames. (Stand-alone)
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to strongtent's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Isn't it always hardware dependent on what kind of FPS you're going to get? It's not like it's the devs that decide what FPS you can get in certain areas. -
[SA suggestion] Hiding places
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Fuzzy Wolfy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
+1. Crawling under a bed seems like a pretty likely option for me in a zombie apocalypse. And since so far in DayZ, zombies can only see and/or hear you, so scent doesn't even rule it out. They should also be allowed to attack the player if they have a line-of-sight to him/her while they go into hiding. -
I may have gotten teary eyes due to laughter at the point where they "jump humped" the zombie and it just.. froze in shock.

Visibility setting won't stay
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to wopperberger's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah, that would completely change the subject. Your files are fine. -
Visibility setting won't stay
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to wopperberger's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sounds like your .cfg files are set to Read-Only. (Too exhausted to explain how to fix it at the moment. If somebody could do that, I would appreciate it.) -
This is supposed to be a kind appeal to developers to focus on anti-cheat measures.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
HAH. I wish. Not completely, but still. You really should research how ARMA 2 works, and how the Standalone will work. This is the kind of threads people post when they don't do so. -
Requested Post for SA Damage model Suggestion.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to mick17's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
At first it sounded kinda dull. (Because it was posted prematurely, like you said.) But.. I am impressed. This would be a fine compliment to the realistic disease/treatment system. -
Being asked for CD-key from [email protected]!!??!!
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to KoKi?S's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It's safe. As mentioned before, Steam does this with Valve's games(Orangebox[remember that?], HL2 bundle). Since it's ARMA 2, and Bohemia Interactive is asking for the CD key, you're safe. They're the company that made and sells the games. They have your CD key anyway. All they need you to take a picture of it for is to verify that your info matches their database. -

SmashT, stahp with the Reddit links. One day I will give in and become a Redditor. -
Requesting information about the status of the mod.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to aluethial's topic in New Player Discussion
Nope, I am pretty sure I've seen several mods here (Fraggle, Matt(,even Rocket?)) mention that they will be evaluating the current Alpha in June and that "this month is yet to be over." So I'd say it's an estimate, although nothing was promised. -
"Loot" your own home for an initial outfit and supplies for the zombie apocalypse
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to YukonCornelius's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Damn you have a neat room. As for my loot, I already have it all here, even though they aren't actual photos: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/139653-dat-game-called-innawood/#entry1370516 -
Requesting information about the status of the mod.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to aluethial's topic in New Player Discussion
The first estimate was December 2012. The current estimate is June 2013. Which is still to be over. Nothing was promised, however, they're simply evaluating the current Alpha. As for the "pre-purchase," that's more or less correct. YES, you can get access to the Alpha by buying the game when it's released on Steam. NO, it is not a pre-purchase. Think Minecraft when you think about the release-model. You buy the game while it's in Alpha, and it will be generally cheap. (Minecraft was $5-$10 in Alpha, DayZ will probably be $8-$15.) You will not need to buy the game again once it's "finished," and you will receive all updates as they come and go. DayZ will probably leave Beta in a good year or two. -
DayZ Standalone Suggestion: zombies
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The zombies will be able to run in the Standalone. And there will be 12+ different diseases with separate cure for them. (Real ones. Can't recall right now.) The infection from zombies themselves will most likely get tweaked to no end when the Standalone comes out, so we'll see what we end up with and what works the best. -
Requesting information about the status of the mod.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to aluethial's topic in New Player Discussion
1. No. Just buy Combined Ops for ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead. The Complete package brings nothing to the table, besides for 1-2 high-res textures for the Hero skin(which is replaced anyway in most DayZ-variations). 2. Yes, but it's definitely not recommended. Use DayZ Commander instead. 3. Yes, no, yes, same as usual. 4. There are FPS problems due to the unoptimized nature of ARMA 2. But you can run it, yes. -
Fair points, the path-finding and common wall-clipping. But I still believe that this patch has been a step to the right direction as far as challenge goes, and making the zombies a threat, instead of an annoyance. I still remember back in 1.4.1.5 when I used to lay prone and crawl through Elektro with two tin cans and stacks of flares to attract the zombies off of my path. The zombies were far from a threat, but I didn't know better. After I learned how easy the zombies were to trick, I didn't crawl anymore. I simply ran, since there was no fear of being knocked onto the ground or getting caught. Now I can have those fears. And this is where I start enjoying DayZ again.

"DayZ is boring. All you do is run through buildings to get loot and avoid zombies." > Patch that adds more features to make the mod more challenging, with a promised hotfix for the things that were KNOWN to have gone wrong. "DayZ is too hard, the new patch sucks, you can't do anything anymore." Just because you can't save yourself with buildings or pine trees, doesn't mean the game sucks. Learn to play the damn game or find a fan-made variation. This IS a SURVIVAL game, after all. And a brutal, unforgiving one at that.

You had me at "...and I'm like "where?""

They DO have smoke grenades and STANAG magazines. (Along with the normal loot.) It's just uncommon. It's always been like that.
