You won't be able to fix this.
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Lewillis4's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
DayZ Commander no longer works after the shutdown of GameSpy. (Months ago) Also, moved. -
DayZ Commander somewhat working?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to fuzzy4ever's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
From my understanding, DayZ Commander stopped working/fetching new servers/data after Gamespy shut down. -
DayZ's Win32 error: A reasoned response
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Onearmdude's topic in Troubleshooting
Neither of the links you provided are official, and extremely shady at best. The first one isn't even using actual screenshots of the game. (One isn't even an actual screenshot. It's an UI concept.) While it was possible to play DayZ on Windows XP until recently, it was never actually listed as a compatible OS on the Steam Store. Only Windows Vista SP2. Edit; The -winxp parameter only forces Direct3D v9. DayZ is moving forward to use DX11, so having that parameter would probably cause more issues than benefits. -
Some of the major gameplay differences you'd notice within the first hour: Mod: - Lots of variations of the mod, possible difficulty finding the right server. - 90% of buildings can't be entered. (Depends on the specific mod, I guess. All of these apply to the original DayZ Mod.) - Loot spawns in random piles around buildings. - Very clunky inventory, lots of clicking, no drag-n-drop. - Lots of guns and ammo types. - Can't punch. - Clothing is rare to find, can only find full outfits. - There is no actual melee system in ARMA. Weapons like the axe, crowbar, and machete are actually guns that fire a bullet. They just look like melee weapons and the firing animation/sound is a swing. Standalone: - All servers are available. - Every building has interiors. - Loot spawns in realistic places, sometimes easy to miss. - Much better inventory, can drag-n-drop, containers are easier to understand. - You have a hotbar for quick access to any item you choose. - Most weapons are melee, guns relatively rare. - Can punch! - Individual pieces of clothing, very common. - Real melee combat! Hit detection is based on the model of whatever you're holding when you swing.

There are two different kinds of DayZ. DayZ Mod for ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead: http://store.steampowered.com/app/224580/ DayZ Standalone, AKA "independent": http://store.steampowered.com/app/221100/ And as others pointed out, yes, you've posted in the DayZ Mod section.

Accessibility, Userfriendliness and Quality of Life
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to flexy's topic in Suggestions
I have to side with Kichilron on this one. The people here who have stayed for the longest time have done so because DayZ does things very differently than your ordinary (zombie) game. It doesn't tell you where to go or what to do, it doesn't even try to hold your hand at all. It's more likely to chew it off instead. If you look at the two links in my signature, you'll see the major outline DayZ started with. That's the kind of game I want, even if I also enjoy very streamlined (or arcadey) shooters and/or survival games. Edit; Obviously, some aspects of the current unfinished build of the game definitely need improvement, but we already know a lot of them will be improved. -
I'll assume people took things way out of context again and took the 12-hour example as "All hardcore servers will prevent you from playing for 12 hours." I for one, like the idea of server owners being able to set the spawn timer how they like it. I'd love to change the respawn timer to something a lot more subtle, though. Like 10-30 minutes to make sure the person won't be running back to his body anytime soon (even if they are a hacker), and it would be enough to make me think twice about picking fights with people. (Not that I do anyway.)

These already exist in the form of spray paint. Certain items -- mostly weapons -- can be spray painted with different camos. (Along with the Ghillie Suit.)

As far as I'm aware, the art team still hasn't touched the UI. So the UI we have now is most likely going to change. At least I kinda wish it would. As for vehicles, the current implementation is very bare-bones. There have been posts from the devs in regards to what kind of things they have planned for them. (Cargo space is included! Now if only I could find the exact post(s)..)

Ban concerns steam account, not DayZ player name?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
DayZ has VAC and BattlEye enabled. Both types of bans are based on your account. -
Very overpowered steam feature? Recently played with...
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to yazar8's topic in General Discussion
Depending how you've set up the privacy settings for your Steam profile, other people will not be able to access any of the tabs. Even if your profile was completely public, there wouldn't be any "revenge killing," because your name in DayZ is not tied to your Steam name. -
Were plans to expand the map canceled?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Adding more towns can be considered "expanding" even if the total land-area stays the same size. This is what they've been doing. -
Instant server join session lost
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to saulmcnulty's topic in Troubleshooting
VAC bans are permanent. -
Wednesday is Maintenanceday.

That's the same thing as the Aiming Deadzone in your settings, as far as I understand. Games like Red Orchestra have it as well, and it's a lovely little mechanic if you want a little more challenge or realism in your aiming.

Are those people in the first video just a little stupid? Let's throw a handful of bullets into a fire. What could go wrong? On-topic, though; Yes. Both of those would be neat, though bullets on a stove is probably less likely to happen than traps with tripwires.

Question about the mod
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to ozvooky's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Many people still play the DayZ mod, but the setup process is notably more tedious, since there are unofficial variations of the DayZ mod which might not be obvious right away, meaning that you'll go through a lot of different bugs and error messages without being able to join a single server. If you do end up buying it, you should keep this bookmarked. -
Weekly Report: A step into survival
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to Damnyourdeadman's topic in General Discussion
Be glad we're not on the Steam forums. -
Your character data is bound to your account, so switching accounts should give you a different character. Unless you happen to be playing the ARMA 2 mod.

Any date confirmed for vehicles being introduced?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to seokoner's topic in New Player Discussion
Having "driveable" vehicles in the game doesn't mean you'll be driving them around. At least it'll give something for players to strive for. In the original DayZ mod, vehicles were fairly rare, to the point where people started hosting their own servers with "100/500/max" vehicles set, so you'd have a chance to find something in literally every town. -
I believe a weight system has been confirmed, or at least talked about. Whether or not that's going to affect 'fatigue' or simply the running speed hasn't been said, as far as I recall, though.

Would You Want To See a Player Report Button?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
For the love of everything YES. And oh dear god don't even think about it. As much as a report button is a nice concept, I think it should be kept as just that. First of all; It will be abused. Secondly; Someone has to keep track of the reports, and somehow be able to determine which ones are legit and which ones are just a player dying from a glitch or from getting shot from a distance. And then punish them accordingly. Probably hundreds of reports would pop up daily. We already have two anti-cheat systems in place that cover different areas in different ways (with some obvious overlap), so adding an additional -- flawed -- method for dealing with "misbehaving" players is pointless for the most part. -
Falling prone the instant you take a step means your legs are broken. Get some sticks and rags to make a splint or some morphine. As for the sudden "offline" problem, that's just Steam doing maintenance. Servers should be back already.

are there already many hackers in this new version?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to cheiroso's topic in General Discussion
There are definitely a few hackers around, which was expected. But it's nowhere near anything like the mod had to go through. -
Spawns are bugged? No more along south coast?
Dancing.Russian.Man replied to albinorhino's topic in General Discussion
Not only was your post funny, but your signature is just as hilarious.
