Way too soon to speculate or care. 700k people vs. an announcement :D Anyway, I hope there's a dev-involved alpha focus group soon. That is if Rocket &co are still interested in what the community says. They have to sort through a lot of crap now. peez!

I met the most kind guy in DayZ so far. In cherno.

People's reactions are pretty much as bad as the OP's tale. I think he won the thread. -
literature.

Sorry you got robbed. Having an AK47-U probably should have satisfied your need for big guns so no need to raid stary or at least not alone. There's plenty of friendly groups that will play with you on the forums. If you're just bored and want to raid death zones then try to spend more time observing the area. Probably don't ever follow anyone into a tent with a bunch of other dudes either... :D

Anybody up for a rescue mission?

I've fallen off those same stairs... next life hit a hospital before you go venturing :D -
It won't totally suck to have a no-fire-zone town, neutral to all, sans zeds. A place to trade and mess around. It'd be the first thing I'd attempt in a real apocalypse since humans are social animals with 12,000 years of communal cultivation behind them. Of course you'll get sniped from the surrounding area entering and leaving but maybe there's some way around it. Hate away, -robo
-
I agree based on what the trading clans have tried. Probably not possible without dev support and I guess Rocket said no somewhere.
-
If these are what you call friends IRL I'd hate to see your enemies.
-
OK then it's time to put this to the test. Let's form a temporary alliance for 10+ people and take a town over. How many zeds will spawn under us every few minutes? Let's find out :D Public teamspeak anyone? -robo
-
Guarded by whom? Not it!
-
Well, so far as a ten person clan goes... I'd rather meet a couple people in game in a neutral area and go on adventures and maybe be betrayed than hunt for a clan which isn't my thing. That is, I'm not really into the whole bunch of guys with big guns shootin' and lootin' thing. Maybe I can find some time to play with the Rated M medics. Those guys are pretty cool. I do understand Rocket wants people to take these things over for themselves, but aside from the forums there's little means to accomplish this in game. Anyway, whatever :D

Yeah it's still just a game or rather a not-a-game-experiment-game. Doesn't do anyone any good to freakout over stupid shit for more than a few minutes. If something happens in game that affects you longer, do something else for a week or two. -robo

Help me understand the butthurt over PK'ing, Bandits, PvP, killers, etc.
robo (DayZ) replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bullshit. You're going to beg that person to help you find food/water/shelter and live longer together. Anyone who thinks they're going to be so tough and heartless in a real disaster, catastrophe or apocalypse is a total moron. Of course when Red Cross or whatever relief comes (which of course it will), they will still help your dumb, murdering ass without fail. -robo -
Right now in alpha there are ~50+ people on a server but in the future it could be globally linked and instanced. It's probable there will be some social system like ratings or something for people who act like idiots. Honestly, I'm far more wary of dummy survivors than bandits and really they're basically the same attitude just with really weak justifications. That is, If you want to kill people after they help you on the weak premise that you're trying to survive or that they're "headed right for you", just man up and be a bandit. Also why are you so afraid to die? An hour or two of scavenging and it's pretty much game over from there. Unless you're trying to scavenge for a tent stockpile which atm is risky with all the server resets and desyncs and assumes you're not playing solo. At any rate I'll still play the good guy survivor that hasn't lost hope. -robo p.s. stupidly logged out south of stary the other night and can't wait to login in front of a sniper :P Starting over is really fun though
-
There can't be too many testers. What you're really seeing is a community coming together to test a mod they're exited about. Anyway wtf OP... how many games or apps have you developed that went viral and left you reeling to keep up? Hugs, -robo

This game in no way represents reality or what "people are really like". It represents what people are really like in video games with no rules. Probably best to stop comparing reality to zombie movies too. It sucks you got shot for trying to help and it sucks otherwise friendly people are so trigger happy. For now, avoid people if you don't want to die or try to realize that your gear has no real value and it's ok to be murdered for having a value system because you can respawn and get new gear. Your murderers will die soon too. Try not to become another cynical survivor. It's just a game :D -robo
-
Keep it in the community, single purchase, hire devs and keep it small. If you kickstart then keep your goal low enough to hire devs and staff but not so much that you have no incentives to finish. Just please keep the community involved and keep the iterative dev cycle. Have a stable live branch and testing branch. This game will never work in a design by committee studio environment overseen by accountants. Good Luck!!! -robo

Just keep trying to make contact. There's still plenty of non-SoS players. It's how you go about it that counts. Don't get attached to your gear or your life. Eventually there will be some system in place either by players or dev created to match people up for groups, survivors or bandits. I too for a more mature approach to this game as opposed to the other crap out there.
-
I usually roll solo and watch people shoot each other and help new spawns when I can. Since there's no point in getting attached to gear, getting backstabbed shouldn't make you too cynical. So far my longest char made it about two days. That said, I did just die to two dudes after running up one side of a hill looking for a safe (hah!) spot to bbq, and they came up the opposite side. I saw the tents just as I heard their heavy breathing and of course playing mr.friendly I announced "friendly" over the mic a bunch and one guy shot me. I could have been the cynical lone forest hermit and shot them since I heard them first and had an M249 but that isn't the way I've been playing. Anyway, they were cool and I got some people to run with out of it. It's not like finding gear is difficult. After all I've been shot with a whole variety of high class weaponry. Still 0 murders for me though. Just sayin'. Maybe next I'll join up with some medic players or figure out some other fun new ways to play. -robo

Yeah bad DayZ happen to me often enough. Breaking legs without any morphine around for miles is all too common for me. Then there are days I find an AKM, MP5, M249 SAW and FN FAL w/NV scope within an hour. :D p.s. when I first started I was trying to crawl up this step for like five minutes to get into an open house when someone ran up behind me and put an axe in my neck. Scared the shit out of me.

^^ this The world I live in (not DayZ, thankfully) is one in which the courteous exchange of ideas flows freely until some twerp comes off like their opinion/idea is the only worth having. In this case that person is the OP. Anyway, have fun :D -

There's nothing wrong with criticism and few are going to stop you if you are able to do it constructively. Most of these threads are pretty whiny and invite trolls though. The patch screwed up for a lot of people. They're going to fix it. -
Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.
robo (DayZ) replied to PinkTaco24's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Penalizing players is against the DayZ hosting rules unless it's for hacking or abusive language. -

It's astonishing how few there are that understand the concept of survival. It means you don't die. There's no excuse, not starvation, not zeds, not bandits, not SoS'ers that your life ended. It's your job to survive it all. That's the "game" kids. Spawn, grab your kit as quick as possible and go find somewhere to continue living. Find people on the forums to group with if you want (and think you can trust them), or buy arma2 for your friends. The people shooting you are doing this. There are even friendlies that will find you and fix your booboos. You make this game what it is. :D -
Zombies are back in charge - good job

Was just playing on a 65 out of 70 player server and found a heli crash with lots of zeds but they didn't seem any different. Maybe it's because it's night on the server and grass silenced my footsteps for 0 noise and 0 vis. I'm way too chicken to run through a town to find out though. Hopefully the "oh, it's just a zombie" days are over. They're lots of fun to evade :D
