  1. Hi Mac. The TS Channel seems to have been passworded all day today so I couldn't download the update to play. People are on the server but I can't get in. Is the password permanent? If so could you PM it to me? Cheers.

    Remove Kamenka As Respawn Point

There's a set of six deer stands on the way North to Zelenogorsk to grab supplies. It's danger free and gets you on your way up North easily. What's the problem?

    Fix Hide Body

There should be a massive drop in your walking speed though. I don't want carrying someone's dead body to the coast for your buddy to requip from to be an option. Perhaps their bag and their primary weapon gets dropped automatically if you pick them up?

    New player tutorial

As long as those mistakes aren't quirks of the engine like "Where did my DMR go? Oh, I guess there were only 9 spaces in my pack." Or "So ATVs will launch themselves into the air and explode if you cross train tracks." That said, you're absolutely right that DayZ should be learned by playing. It all adds tothe atmosphere. I'm just hoping for a bunch of new items and mechanics that people need to work hard to figure out again.

    Cooldown timers on food/drink.

Shameless Plug!!! Shameless Plug!!! Shameless Plug!!! Shameless Plug!!! Shameless Plug!!! I had similar ideas on this a while back. In essence Make the process of eating slowly increase your health as opposed to instantly or limit the amount that you can eat at once, giving food time to "digest" and raise the upper limit of your health regeneration.
  6. Now that's an interesting idea! The autohover feature, although realistic (most helis feature one, right?) work as a kind of "Get out of a bad manoeuvre free" function. Letting you fly recklessly knowing all the while that autohover will correct most of the bad piloting you might do as long as you have the altitude. Maybe the removal of it will teach pilots to fly more gingerly. Perhaps it will even cut down on people stashing helis in the woods? Finding a clearing in the middle of nowhere to land in without trimming the treetops being to much of a challenge/risk for most pilots. What does everyone think?

    Lower End PC'S?

No promises but Rocket did mention optimisation as being one of the focuses of the SA. I would imagine that a custom built engine for DayZ would run better than the Arma 2 engine. No way of knowing though.

    Emotes/Menus

A pointing animation would be excellent. Perhaps it could be the function of ironsights if your weapon is holstered?
  9. Certainly not up to DCS: Black shark levels of complexity (If anyone's wondering there's a vid of the startup procedure ). A cut down version of the TOH startup sequence would be perfect. Just a small checklist of the startup procedures and a requirement for them to warm up and activate would do. The consequences of missing a step or rushing to the next step without warm up time could range from the heli not responding, the heli stalling and the startup sequence resetting, engine damage due to not letting it warm up all the way through to damage from an improper takeoff. No idea about a suitable interface though.

    Trangia

Why bother with that? The more intuitive way is if it's still crackling then the embers are hot and players are nearby.

    Slightly sllly buuuuuuuuuuut

I don't see why not. DayZ is a game where the posession of a bicycle is a mark of considerable status. Scooters (yes. Motorised ones) are popular in many parts of the world and should be included. Make them nearly unusable offroad and relatively slow onroad with terrible mileage.

    Wing Suits in DayZ?

Not going to be a dick about it. It was lots of fun in FarCry3 but it's not suitable for DayZ.

    Trangia

I wasn't sure that it was worth including one in game at all but that's a very convincing argument. Especially when water is going to need to be boiled to prevent infection. Sold! While considering this idea I thought it would be interesting to include a daytime compromise in stealth for campfires like a lingering plume of smoke. Not crashed heli style but a distinct grey column that can be seen if you look hard enough for one. What do you think?

    Fix Hide Body

I don't think a bury or burn mechanic will ever be implemented in the game. Would you really waste precious time or fuel doing either of these? What I would love to see is a well implemented carry/ drag body mechanic that allows corpses to be hidden in bushes and buildings. This also allows for some hilarious emergent gameplay like writing a massive SOS in zombie/player corpses for helis to spot or marking the perimeter of your camp with dead players as a warning to others.
  15. I disagree with the idea that people would be turned off. The history of DayZ's development is evidence in itself that gamers crave a challenge. Instead of a steady climb up a skill tree from lowly mortal to superhuman badass like in WOW, Fallout and Farcry (to name a few), DayZ depends on your familiarity with the terrain and game mechanics to survive. The reason why it's so popular is because it's not handed to you on a plate. An increase in complexity when piloting a whirlybird is just an extension of this. The key to it is a mechanic that can be learned by playing the game instead of consulting a forum or a search on youtube.

    Standalone Climbing?

I take it you mean blindfire on a crosshair/3rd person enabled server? Pretty easy to disable when in third I'd imagine.

    Standalone Climbing?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If they do anything in the SA, the implementation of these movements should be the first thing.

    Backpacks and Weapons

Everytime a thread like this comes up I think that a Deus Ex style inventory works best here: It's just so intuitive. It leaves you to make tough choices about throwing things out to accomodate the stuff that you need. Plus you can drag and drop what you want to equip.

    Trangia

Well, the only reason a person uses one of those is for convenience. As everyone knows IRL building a fire takes time and quite a bit of knowhow in bad conditions for it. Personally, I would like to see firemaking take a while to do in game before meat can be cooked properly (lets say about two minutes to heat up and another to cook your meat). If that kind of time constraint is applied a tranger could reduce the cooking time significantly but until then i don't see much use for the item.
  20. Absolutely. I wrote something similar here about the idea of hunting being so specialised that servers depend on skilled hunters to keep squads looting, fighting and building. Making them a character that people want to keep alive, their skill being more valuable than their loot. The same could go for an accomplished mechanic, field medic or in this case helicopter pilot.
  21. I think this fits well with Rocket's sense that if you are good at something you should be good at it in DayZ. It's pretty much settled that there will be no arbitrary class system in DayZ but an increase in complexity to the game mechanics from medicine to hunting to combat will force players to specialise in an entirely organic way. I would love to see something like a stripped down version of the startup procedure for a helicopter in game: You want to fly across the map in minutes and kill bambis in Cherno? Expect to spend a few nerve shredding minutes sitting in the middle of NWAF trying to spin the engine up fully while rival squads eye you up in their sights.
  22. I was thinking more along the lines of people handing out "Death Cards" a la Apocalypse Now.

Third person vs First person view

Not true I'm afraid. Human field of vision is almost 180 degrees. Our ability to recognise colours, movements and shapes drops off considerably around the edges though. Making a game that mimics human eyesight would be very difficult indeed. Hence the addition of the zoom function with the RMB, peripheral dots and 3rd person.

Third person vs First person view

This is the key IMO. It's already implemented for vehicles to zoom in at slow speeds and out when traveling quickly so doing this on foot should be easy. This can be appled when prone as well. The point is that the ARMA simulations have to strike a balance between realism and playablilty. There is nothing at the moment that simulates what your vision does IRL because it can't recreate the kind of proprioception our bodies have and link it with our vision. 1st person feels odd because it isn't really like our own vision and FOV and we switch to the greater FOV in third but it's exploitable. It's really going to have to be about implementing a compromise. That or everyone invests in an oculus rift.

    Walking Dead concept!

Do you mean Walking Dead concept art?: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/12/20/war-z-uses-images-taken-from-amcs-the-walking-dead/ Not the best of ideas IMO.
