What does it take to survive?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to codemonkeys101's topic in General Discussion
There's a time when a person is giving legitimate feedback and suggestions, and then there's a time when a person is just spewing out profanity and anger. This is something people need to realize, on both sides of the spectrum (those giving the feedback, and those reading it). I think you're doing a mixture of both, expecting the game to be perfect and demanding Rocket fix things, while also providing some interesting feedback in regards to the first point you made about the wearing a cap effecting your fatigue. Anyways, I won't repeat what has already been said, I've noticed the bulk of the issues you have already declared as well, so let's just hope they get fixed in a relatively small amount of time. -
My first impressions - DayZ Mod Vet

Your stories and adventures are the pinnacle of what DayZ is all about. Definitely some weird looking bugs, I haven't personally encountered them, but I haven't actually tried to utilize those functions quite yet. -
My first impressions - DayZ Mod Vet
Sterling (DayZ) replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hand to hand combat is very doable, and items like Shovels and Hammers are pretty common throughout the land making killing on sight, even from the get go, a fairly accessible option. But I suppose you could be right, once players get a better grip on the changes and controls and maybe do a bit more in the way of finding guns, we should see more killers pop around. -
Playing on 1920x1080 resolution with Normal Settings and "Very High" antialiasing, I'm averaging 35 fps when looking out into the distance, and I'm loving it. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Sterlin22/screenshots

My first impressions - DayZ Mod Vet
Sterling (DayZ) replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I wonder how the game would've been if they released it last year as intended... I wouldn't say it's unplayable, not anywhere near as bad as DayZ Mod is. -
Friendlies, Friendlies everywhere.
Sterling (DayZ) replied to xX_fr0st-w0lf_Xx (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ran into 6 people today. 3 were unresponsive when spoken to and pretty much ignored me, 1 killed me on sight, 1 befriended me, the other would've done the whole "unresponsive when spoken to" stuff if the newly acquired friend didn't start shooting him. This person was able to kill both of us with a single shovel, and my friend had a M4 and I had a shovel at the time. He was able to sort of glitch into my friend's character, making his character derp around and him being unable to do anything, and then he beat me in a one on one shovel match. I remember he eventually did speak on the microphone saying "you guys didnt think this through did you, this is the second group i killed with a fucking shovel." -
Zombie instances (Walking Dead Prison experience)....
Sterling (DayZ) replied to WalBanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This thread has gone through all levels of <insert correct word here>. Anyways I like the idea of zombie instances, I also like the idea of underground base instances. Combining the two sounds like a nice idea. I watch Walking Dead very often, I remember those first few episodes of Season 3 very well and, though I never thought of associating those mechanics and playstyles into DayZ, I will say I am intrigued, but I doubt anything like this will happen in the near future to DayZ Mod or even the Standalone and it's alpha/beta/full game. -
I'd say there's a good 30% chance you'll find a hacker on any server at any time.

Current opinions regarding players killing on sight?
Sterling (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Last night me and my friend were entertaining ourselves on a server with the map known as Panthera. We decided to pretty much claim New Skooma and "invite" players to join us, where "things are better" and we even used advertisements in side channel to attempt to draw in more people, we wanted action. Panthera typically doesn't have a "Cherno" or "Elektro", so we decided to make our own at New skooma. Some more advertisements we had were "HaNewSkoomatata, what a wonderful city," and "Come to New Skooma, named after the very renown drug from Elder Scrolls Lore." Needless to say, a lot of amusement was derived from this, we had our own little "flight channel", lots of action took place here, lots of vehicles came by and accidents occured, the Industrial Building located around the Southwestern Area of New Skooma was toppled by two helicopters crashing into the exact same level, killing both me and my buddy, a "repeat of 9/11" as the player so enthusiastically claimed. As I was about to get off of the game for the night, I approached the southern end of Panthera to situate myself for when I log in next. But as I was steadily nearing New Skooma, I noticed a player not too far off. The player had neither a hero skin, nor a bandit skin, and he had some sort of rifle on his back. He clearly did not notice me in the least, he stopped to loot a dead player's body and continued on further South. With a m9sd in hand (the server spawned you with a m9sd), I made quick haste and managed to shoot him a few times, he turned around and made several quick shots out of desperation, all but maybe one of them missed, and I finally finished him off. He was clearly unhappy as he wrote "YOU F**KING C**T." A friend told me to write "Welcome to New Skooma, <Insert player name here>." And I did just that. I looted his body and found some very nice loot, a M24 with several mags for it, a FN FAL with mags for that as well, an ALICE Bag and a crap-load of supplies. Eventually he respawned and complained a bit further, except this time in Side channel. Can't really remember what he wrote, if I recall correctly it was just rage, and then a good 10 or so minutes later me and my buddy called it a night. Looking back at the above story, I remember killing on sight without hesitation. I enjoyed it. I never thought it through, I never thought "what if these players were fresh-spawns", nor did I ponder on the legitimacy of their own vehicles / items and the possibilities of whether or not what I did was of any moral righteousness, or if morality plays no role in this what so ever, this is a video game isn't it? I've played this mod since around July and August, but haven't touched it since then, what are people's current opinions regarding killing-on-sight-players? -
When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
God it's been too long. How about the earliest I can remember? I met someone around Cherno or Elektro, who eventually became probably one of my "best friends on Steam" for months, and still is, and we were attempting to help another player who also helped us. He was talking over direct voice chat and was clearly a nice fellow, but I shot him anyway for the lols. I ended up shooting that "best friends on Steam" as well, but I THINK that was on accident. -

Current opinions regarding players killing on sight?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I guess you could say what I did within my story was "lure players in" and then "kill on sight." A nice mixture of both I suppose. There are clear differences between the two, one is killing on sight, in every sense of that phrase, and the other is the direct action of attempting to draw players to you for kills. The actions are different, but the behavior is similar, same as the outcome. -
The dumbest/funniest things you've seen in DayZ?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to deceitfulburger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think this topic should be renamed from dumbest people, to funniest (a word I found on an online dictionary) people. Some of these names and posters we're suggesting are quite funny or plain silly in their own way. -
Was recently watching the first season of The Walking Dead and recalled the scene where Rick (the main character) went back into the city full of zombies with some others in search of his "bag of guns." He said, and I can't exactly remember this word for word, the bag contains six shot guns, two-high powered rifles, over a dozen hand guns, and 700 sorted rounds of ammo for said guns. If Rick can do it, why can't we?

What is the point of this game now?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to LordHussyPants's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Times like this when I get situated and have literally all I can really need, it's player killing / helping time. And when I say player helping, I mean I NEVER help players, but it's at this point in time where players can choose to help others or hurt others (I hurt others). Then when you finally die, it's time to regather the loot you've lost. -
What is the point of this game now?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to LordHussyPants's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How is Taviana horrific in any sense of the word? When I think of Taviana I think of cities, beaches, islands, mountains, and inactive volcanos, not much horror there in my eyes. Now I didn't explore the entire map, but I've been through what I'd consider the bulk of it and can't say I ever experienced anything creepier than most other DayZ maps. I asked a friend if he can think of anything "horrific" about it, and he replied saying that the numerous large-fields make it "horror movie-y." Still, would love to hear your input on this, maybe it's possible the areas I never explored were horrific to a degree (Mainly haven't explored the islands, the north eastern most areas of the map, and the south eastern most areas of the map). -
Proof that bags are too small
Sterling (DayZ) replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Perhaps I should've elaborated on the story a bit more. He went into the city on horseback with the bag on his back, got over run by zombies, ditched the bag and got into a tank, managed to escape and left it behind. Later he goes back to get it and IS ABLE TO CARRY IT AND HIKE MILES BACK TO CAMP. Then maybe they should add "duffle bags" to the game, I'd much rather have one of those. Then give us duffle bags, or whatever form of bag that will allow us to carry all of these guns. -
Kill: Everyone Make no friends except those you've made in real life or in other games. I don't care how pitiful someone sounds, how much they beg, how new they are, they will be eliminated. Resistance is most definitely futile. No allies except the ones you've had before. No dealing with bull shit, no dealing with backstabs, be the superior authority.

How will these run DayZ
Sterling (DayZ) replied to beastlygrandpa's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They will run just fine, though a Radeon 7950 is superior and in the same price range. -
Do you play alone occasionally?
Sterling (DayZ) replied to Anyx7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unfortunately, I only play alone now a days. I used to play with a possee of 6 people, that eventually died down and we all began playing other games, including myself actually, so now whenever I play DayZ I'm a loner. -

Consider me entered, unfortunately I don't know what time zone UTC -5 is, so I can't fathom when it'll start :P. -
What do you do? Do you run to a "home-base server", or maybe you make a run straight for NWAF. I personally kill myself until I spawn at or really close to Elektro, Cherno, or Balota. If I spawn at Balota I hit the Airstrip and the four deer stands, then make my way to Cherno's Fire House, Market, and Hospital. The main goal for me is to have some sort of weapon, enough food, drink, bandages, and morphine injectors to survive for a long period of time without fear. After this i head straight for Stary Sobor (auto running with Steam of course) and then loot the many tents. Then I head north / north east in search of helicrash sites and sometimes deer stands. If I find a sniper, I'll stalk NWAF or Stary. I then meet up with my friends and we eventually find some sort of vehicle to goof around in, die, and then repeat.

Yesterday I walked into the Cherno Market and stumbled upon a player with a Shotgun. I myself had an AKM at the time with five magazines. The player was scared and said on the mic "friendly friendly!" I responded in chat saying "It's alright I won't shoot." Shortly after, a good ten or so Zombies came in after us. We both had our backs faced at the furthest wall in the main room of the Market shooting some of them off. Before I knew it I heard real loud pops and watched as my character fell over, this player killed me. I've been playing this mod for a good month or two now, and I must say I really was shocked by the behavior of this fellow, unfortunately it left a mark on me that won't easily go away. I realized everyone who is playing this game is out for themselves. The primary goal of players is to have fun, and to do so they kill others to acquire high-adrenaline and new equipment. No matter what anyone says, how sad and scared they sound, how unarmed they may appear, they're going to kill you should you trust them. Ever since that time I've been hostile to every player who isn't a "true" friend, or do my best to avoid them. Everyone is a target.

For me it's run into Cherno whilst playing Justin Beiber's Baby song on Direct comm on a highly populated server.
