After playing ArmA 3 for a bit, I found that disabling Vsync and Anti-Aliasing yielded 50 FPS everywhere. The issue is the RV engine DayZ uses. Other games have great optimization, DayZ does not.

Considering the fact that I can run (not play because it's awful) Battlefield 4 on ultra with 100 average FPS, and I get around 35 average on DayZ maxed, I am a little dissatisfied. Yes, they are different engines. Yes, RV is older than Frostbite 3. Still, optimization should be the focus of all engines. Battlefield 4 looks absolutely gorgeous. DayZ looks decent. Not bad, but not stunning. It is just average. It is what graphics should be. So why can I not run it better? Don't use alpha bullshit here, the RV engine has been around for years; it should be optimized by now, especially on a fourth quarter 2013 PC. Well it didn't happen to me, but it happened because of me. I was with two friends running around up north. We always joke how we're going to shoot one another, and at one point to make a point that I WOULD shoot one of them, I shotgunned Nick's legs. We bandaged him but left him there and he eventually starved to death. What a great friendship we have :D

Intel i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, NVIDIA 760 GTX with 2GB Video memory, 8GB RAM, Motherboard is MSi Z87-GD65 (7845-001R), 1TB HDD, Windows 8 with 1080p monitor 50+ FPS not in cities, 20-25 FPS in cities. Everything, including Video memory being on "Auto", is maxed out except: Vsync = Disabled (for higher framerate) Edge Smoothing = FXAA High (for a more crisp picture) Yes, I can potentially max out everything, but Vsync unnecessarily lowers my frame rate, and anything higher than FXAA makes the screen blurry which I don't like. Yes, Vsync prevents screen tearing, but I have a high framerate, so I don't notice it. On top of that, screen tearing never bothered me anyway.

You have to give yourself something to do: -find the soccer field -find the statue piece in the forest -visit Green Mountain -find the painting of a man on the ground -find helicopter crash sites -visit crashed boat -visit Kamenka -find santa -find the lake outside of the map

But...I bowl with the bumpers and yet I only play on hardcore servers :/

Personally, since they improved the headbob since ArmA II's, I would like to eventually see the option to turn it off go away. In ArmA II, maximum headbob was the equivalent of tying a Mini Cooper to your forehead, so I can fully understand the reason for it not being forced. Now, in Standalone DayZ, it is the equivalent of many other first person shooters. So FOR THE SAKE OF REALISM, would you like to see it forced? In real life, you can get a better view of something in the distance if you stop and take a good look at it rather than trying to look at it while running. Our head always moves a bit, because in real life we aren't a camera floating six feet off the ground. It would be on the same level for all players. Non-adjustable.

I feel like I'm the only one who's gotten my money's worth out of the amount of DayZ I've played so far (80 hours)

Every time I die in DayZ i get pissed off and stop playing. And then I start another life within an hour. Repeat every time I die.

I have the exact same setup as you. Here are what I have set so the quality is clear and pretty with a great framerate:

RoosterTeeth, as I did with the mod. They made videos on both mod and Standalone. My friends told me about the Standalone, and Roosterteeth sold it for me. That's what made me buy it; I still play it because I like the tension this provides. Tension + organic exploration/discovery is always exciting.
