I'm forever "Requesting Character data from server"
P2J2 replied to D2Dominator's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sorry to bring up an old topic but did you ever figure this out? I've been having the same issue with the new 1.8 update and hive servers. Wiped everything, fresh install, verified the files on steam, played A2, OA and Beta from the library, no problems. DayZ Commander shows I'm running the proper versions, has the settings for steam checked. I can join most servers with no lag or problem but no matter how I try to run it, it's the same result...freezes at "Requesting Character data from server". The counter in the corner sometimes makes it to 1, not often though. Any ideas what else I could try??? Almost forgot, I keep getting a 'bin\config.bin/CfgWeapons/SVD_CAMO_DZ/Single_Sniper.multiplier' message during loading, right before it always freezes. -

Definitely an awesome server with excellent admins. The regulars seem to be fairly mature and helpful. All the custom tweaks are a nice addition, helps liven things up a little. I'll be playing here for the duration of the mod. :beans: -
This is a great idea. Allow it to keep expanding and connect it all. One of the biggest things that's kept the mod going for me is the new maps and the different survival dynamics of their environments. Would love to see that in the standalone too.

I would like to be able to switch back and forth. I shoot left handed but had to learn to use my right with certain weapons because of ejection port issues. Hot brass is not your friend! I might've been slightly less accurate but with practice it wasn't that hard to figure out. I think it would be a good feature for everyone to be able to use in conjunction with the corner lean movements. Righties wouldn't have to expose themselves as much when going left and vise versa.

Crash course on the 1.7.3 Combat System (by the person who wrote it)

I haven't seen these messages yet and have personally dealt with several combat-logging twats since the patch. Is it not working on all hives? -
I can't tell you how many times I've died like this. You're not going to find any sympathy here, although I do hope they are a lot less glitchy in the standalone. They're working on the zombie models so I'm guessing they're going to clean them up in general. I wouldn't really expect for them to be made any easier though. I actually wouldn't mind if they were a greater threat. They're laughable at best now. Last I heard it was the zombie apocalypse and we're supposed to be scared!

I'm very pleased I won't be receiving anymore leg-breaking, knockout, judo chops from zeds after I've already blown their fucking brains out. You've made me a slightly happier survivor. Cheers to everyone that's helping out with this project, and happy Halloween!

DayZ standalone suggestion: No escape from night. No time shifting and serverhopping. Permanent time offset.
P2J2 replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm not sure that forcing characters to be locked into a specific timezone is the best answer. I think giving server admins the ability to set those types of parameters (through difficulty settings or whatever) would be a better option and help cater to the entire community. Veteran players have gotten used to it and enjoy the challenge of having to deal with the pitch black conditions whereas newer players get frustrated by it and just switch servers. I've been reading a couple discussions about whether night-time is too dark or not and tend to agree that it doesn't need to be as dark as it is as often as it is. I get it, there's no light pollution anymore and it can be extremely dark in the woods even with a moon. That shouldn't make you completely blind though. There have been too many times where I could see things 100m away decently but couldn't make out the doorway to a building I was standing right next to. It could use some adjusting. Don't get me wrong, I love playing at night. The moon makes it tolerable. I use flares, chem-lights and the flashlight (which is a joke and I hope gets seriously tweaked) but hate having to adjust gamma and brightness in order to see anything at all without those. It would be nice to have more lighting tools in general, like headlamps and weapon attachments with the tactical red lens option on all of them. They're not at all uncommon irl so why should they be in game. The way it is now, it seems like I come across legit NVG's more often than military flashlights. Who know's, maybe I've just been lucky but it just doesn't seem right as-is. -
Perma-identity. Nickname is permanent. Nickname as face. Cover face - conceal nickname.

I like these nameplate ideas that're coming up. The way they are now is garbage and needs fixing. Not having them at all isn't a very great option either, especially when playing with big teams. What I'm wondering is if they could make it so that when you come within talking or shouting distance of someone, scroll wheel options would come up with "Introduce Yourself" and "Ask Survivor's Name". Like how "Give Blood Transfusion" works. The "Introduce Yourself" option would be the friendlier approach and would expose your nameplate to them first. The other player doesn't have to answer if they don't want to but if they do, you could then see each other's nameplate out to a distance that you could realistically recognize a person that you've met. Unless of course they're using a mask or whatever method to hide their identity. The more cautious option would be the "Ask Survivor's Name". It wouldn't expose your identity first and throws the ball into their court. Either way, nobody's forced to reveal themselves if they don't want to be. I think it would really help with groups and accidental friendly fire and add a dynamic that could help mic-less players better interact with everyone. -

Server Hopping and Ghost Flanking solution
P2J2 replied to John Spectre's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea that the position a player logs out from should be temporarily saved to that server. That way, if they try to re-position on another server they'll just be returned to the coordinates they originally logged out from. Player logs off of server A at position A Logs onto server B at position A Moves to position B and logs off Re-logs onto Server A within X amount of time Server loads character in at position A If they re-log after X amount of time, they load in at position B. -

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
P2J2 replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I would not be sad to see it go for now. Maybe in the standalone it'd be nice to see it back and work against zombies, at least slow them down a little. Maybe after they force their way through it, they become crawlers, something like that. Make it the same for players. You can get through it but you get all tore up! -
+1 Having wasted hours of my time going through the LOG and RPT's of the server I used to admin on, and not being able to find the proof I needed to catch and properly report cheaters, I have to say this is a great idea. It would save so much time! Anyone arguing that it could be abused needs to seriously ask themselves this question...what's the bigger problem with this mod right now, admin abuse or hackers?
