Suggestion for cutting down on bandits
chrismgtis replied to Orgy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There's no point in cutting down on bandits. Period. But the bandit skin needs to return. Removing it was beyond asinine and I know pissed off a lot of people. So many people came to the game because of things like bandit skins and then they remove them and piss us off for having spent $30 for a mod that had multiple features removed that we came to the game for. -
The zombie wall-ignoring is absolutely one of the highest priority bugs to fix.

Servers without friendly fire, aka pvp killing

Pay no attention to the trolls above. They are immature and likely quite bad at the game themselves. Deathmatch: that's what it is, yes. At least in the sense that if someone sees you and you don't get off the killing shot first: you're dead. But this is a hard core game with perma-death and that is what makes it great and unique. It is not dumbed down like every console game or console port and most PC titles are today and does not hand feed anything with a baby spoon as 99.9% of games continue to do more and more these days. This is why people come to DayZ and stick around. I personally play on small servers with 6-15 people. If I can, I play on a dark server. It makes it difficult for anyone without NV to see you. As long as it's not "pitch black" dark. On some servers it seems that you can raise gamma/brightness and see enough shades of gray to discern detail that you need to see but at the same time being much safer. It was a great PITA for me the first week that I played, but I adjusted. Also joining a clan and playing with others makes all the difference. I spend a lot of time at downed choppers looting gear instead of at Stary Sobor/NW Airfield where it is most dangerous and almost guarantees your death if you stick around long enough. Choppers are also, irrefutably and inarguably the best place to find gear. If you find a chopper there's about a 90% chance you're leaving with the high end gear. Yesterday I found a FN FAL (my personal favorite) with the NV scope. Stary Sobor/NW Airfield has about mid-range gear with a very very low loot chance. You're lucky to even find an M16/M4A1 in your time there. A few hours of loot cycling generally only results in getting a few more of these.

Could you reconsider having global chat? My argument inside.
chrismgtis replied to vgtg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not having it is stupid and there's no legitimate excuse for not having it. I don't even need to say why. It's too obvious. -

I guess everyone experiences this. I cannot be sure, so I'm not entirely sure of what to call this issue, but I will explain. Infected are fast. Ridiculously fast. Ok. While I'm pretty anal about the "laws" that zombies can or should follow I don't prefer slow or fast zombies and slow would obviously not make sense here, but that's not the issue. So I'm fine with fast zombies. I don't mind running. What I do mind is that in the split second that I pause running I get nailed immediately. I know the constant broken leg issue is getting fixed, but then there's the bleeding and the losing blood with each hit. There's absolutely no hope in stopping or turning around or back stepping while shooting. The agility issue comes when you turn around to aim and infected move like a Keanu Reeves in the Matrix on Speed (the drug). There's no possible way to hit them moving so fast side to side like some kind of whacked out ninja. I do like that they are difficult and mean and dangerous. It should be that way, but you have to draw the line at having a chance. If I need to use every bullet I have to stop them I don't mind, but give me that chance. Currently it's impossible until you slow them down in a barn or other building. I also sort of want to propose different types of zombies: maybe make some of them slower. I don't know. There's ways to handle this and I love the fact that they chase you so vehemently as is. It's scary. It's difficult. This game should be very hard. But again, give me a chance. I don't have super human aiming reflexes nor can I walk through walls like zombies can (or under the foundation of a building like they do at times). TBH I'm 100% perfectly fine with just adjusting them so that they run in a damn straight line or at least run from side to side like they currently do... slower so that I can aim. Even if they are already on my neck once I turn around to do so.

Can zombies maybe NOT be able to go through closed doors? That would be swell
chrismgtis replied to Konrad9's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Zombies open doors. The problem is that they hit through walls, walk through walls... etc. -
Saying someone shouldn't leave out of fear is ignorant. Leaving mid-combat is a different scenario entirely. Leaving due to "fear" that someone might be around is no damn different than just leaving the game whenever you feel like not playing anymore that session which is your right to do whenever you please (other than mid-combat obviously).

Our guild killed a few players in a chopper over Stary Sober today around 11:30PM July 2012. The chopper was landed and we killed 2 of the players that were in it. Prior to that we believe another in the chopper died and fell out. It had been flying back and forth shooting at us for 20 minutes prior to this. Several hundred rounds were fired into the chopper with no real effect by 5-6 of us (whether or not that is fishy in itself I don't know). We then engaged in a fire fight right next to the SS market and both of the enemy players were killed. Moments after (possibly a few minutes) the entire server was killed. Obviously the ones in the chopper who were killed by us (we were wearing [Elysium] tags so you should probably just check who we killed at around that time) executed the script, hack, whatever due to being angry that we killed them and were about to loot their bodies.

Wouldn't compare anyone to Notch. Notch is lazy and never did anything. All he did was create a really crappy Minecraft engine for the most part with no features but such a large procedural generating world. Then he set back and let modders do absolutely everything for him and did nothing else ever again. Then when modders made the game so popular and added features he hired others to do the work that he should have been doing.

The Arma 2 engine is the worst I've seen in 30 years. That includes it's lack of good optimization. A pretty "low performance" PC can play BF3 but not even hope to touch Arma 2. That says more than enough.

I've also been shot at as soon as I come back to the game a day later. The hell if I'm going to let some idiot get the kill just because I spawned where he could see me and I am so vulnerable.
-
It doesn't just happen then. I've been perfectly fine. Newly spawned on the coast and had to went AFK. Logged to the player list. Came back 5 minutes later and thud, I was out for 5+ minutes.

There's some guy shooting through barracks glass and through the walls itself (I was shot multiple times through the wall while prone) on the Seattle DayZ Server "Hosted by TheMercs". Killed a bunch of us at around 9:30-9:45PM Eastern at the NW Airfield. Basically whoever killled [Elysium] Merik is using some type of hack as I was killed through the wall itself. Come to think of it a bit earlier one of what I assume to be the same group ran in and shot one of us and then immediately ALT+F4'd out of the game. Having seen nothing but hack after hack, exploit after exploit and having friends tell me of all the people they know that use them and the times they themselves have used them and do so extremely easily without ever being detected, I highly doubt I'll be playing much of the game anymore. 9/10 people I've come across have been exploiting or hacking or I've been killed due to bugs or zombies walking through walls and countless other things. The smooth experience is such a rare thing that it occurs 1/50 times that you play the game.

Then you've never been a smoker. I smoked for 10 years. Hungry? Nothing to eat. Light one up. It is realistic.

Except there's exactly 0 to do in Minecraft except stare at blocks and move them around. Pretty boring.

Dallas 22 was just mass killed. Seriously tired of this. Second time this has happened in the past hour. Just done with this. Over this game.

Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.
chrismgtis replied to PinkTaco24's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's a quite comical statement. Once you see another survivor, you're likely dead as he's probably seen you already and started firing. Unless you're lucky enough to be the one to see him first in which case you better start firing or you're dead. That is the true state of the game. -
I personally hate the M9SD even as a silent weapon.

I've been knocked out just for logging in. And a long knock out too. 5 minutes or more.
