  1. This is a re-post of a clear and concise guide from the MMO-Champion forums. MMO-Champion is primarily a World of Warcraft fan site, but since recording video and uploading it is generally game-agnostic I thought I'd re-post this here with the original author's permission. Original forum thread on MMO-Champion As an addition, as others have pointed out, you can use MSI's Afterburner tool to record and encode video. You can still follow this guide from the first step, as the Afterburner recorded video can still be re-encoded for a smaller file size (more often than not, at least). Download MSI Afterburner
  2. Depends on who hosts your server - if you have access to the log files, you'll be looking at the one showing the updates for survivor location. INFO [main] dayz_####.takistan command E: call proc_updateSurvivor(####, '[###,[XXXX.XX,YYYY.YY,Z.ZZZZZ]]' That's an example from our log (a Takistan server hosted by Vilayer, ofc) of my character before logging out. I've replaced the coordinates with X, Y and Z identifiers. For Chernarus, the in-game map shows an inverted and offset Y coordinate, so you'll be subtracting 15350 from the Y coordinate. This will give you a negative number, which will be the correct Y coordinate. Takistan and Lingor seem to translate directly into map coordinates perfectly. A large difference in either is instantly noticeable without requiring the "conversion", however, so since you're just looking for that (right?) you'll be able to do it easily.
  3. Must be a setting on my server, since I'm not able to see any chat via BERcon or DaRT.
  4. As it stands, none of them show anywhere in DaRT anyway. Is it supposed to capture all chat on the server? I've tested with my own character and friends' on our server, and DaRT doesn't display any chat sent.
  5. Hide them where? Does it stop them showing for other players ingame (without disabling the ability to type them)?
  6. Can you explain the effect of the following options under Settings: Show direct chat Show vehicle chat Show group chat Are they intended to affect the server itself, disabling the in-game chat options?
  7. Depending on the program you used to record, you will need to set the source option in that program to whichever can capture the audio from the game/voiceover. It's entirely dependent on your computer and operating system which setting you'll need to select, your best option is to try each and record a short segment.
  8. Trying to find where Dart keeps its player database, since that isn't loading for me even in the few seconds I can access the tool. May be that is whats causing the crashes.
  9. It certainly is a useful little tool. I used to use the ArmA2 Rcon, and currently have to, but it never automatically reconnects which is a PITA.
  10. I've been having repeat crashes lately, but only since I rolled our server back to 1.7.2.4 - could this be related? Has anyone else that experienced repeat crashes recently rolled back?
  11. If I see ammo for a weapon I have, I pick it up. If I see ammo for a weapon I know a friend needs ammo for, I pick it up and drop anything less important to make space if I have to. If I see food and drink, and nobody with me needs it and I'm full on items, I'll take one of each and use it. One thing I do, however, is clear loot spawns of items if I'm in an area and after something specific. At the factory north of Dolina, I'll spend time clearing the outer buildings into a neat pile in front of each and then clear the main building. By the time I'm done at the main building, often items have begun appearing in the outer ones. I'll only do this for things like wheels, engine parts etc.

    5.56 x45 ammo

Any military spawn is likely to have it. Helicopter crashes and barracks can have ammunition boxes that have ~30 magazines in them. Deerstands are probably your easiest target. Not only can the ammo spawn in the stand, but the zombies that spawn at the stand can drop it.

Can someone possibly explain this to me?

I've seen a standing corpse in an Elektro firestation. It was sitting on the first floor of the tower, as if waiting for someone to come up the stairs.

    DayZ sound card advice

Respect for CEX! Worked there for 4 years, most shops are pretty good :) The Xonar cards are your friend, and I'm glad to see you got one.

US 630 - Car left in supermarket

Well, get in there and cover it with a camouflage tarpaulin to hide it.

    1.7.2.4 Huge Graphic Bugs unplayable

The artifacts seem to occur, at least for me, after running the game for more than an hour. Can people suffering from this problem try and note how long they've been running the game, and how much system memory the game is taking up.

    DE 461 + DE 620

DE 461 Apparently a new server, the three players using the [sPTD] tag on DE 461 decided to kick any other players that joined their server. One can only assume it is so they can gear themselves and take a large number of vehicles on their server. http://i.imgur.com/V7wyO.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mKzq1.jpg DE 620 Previously a normal server with standard player caps (40 I believe), this server has recently dropped to being capped at the number of players present - currently 3/3. http://i.imgur.com/PurG7.png

    Ammo crates

They can spawn at helicopter crash sites, and in the barracks. They'll generally have a large amount of a few types of magazines. If you see them anywhere else, they were spawned by a cheater.
  19. Actually, no. Any clothing has a higher chance of destroying your equipped pack than dropping it does. This applies to camo, ghillie AND civilian clothing. For extra safety when dropping your current pack, use an existing loot spawn and access it. Click your pack at the bottom of your inventory list, and then the left arrow to move it to the ground. Equip your clothing and then pick up the pack again, by accessing the gear on the ground and using the right arrow on the backpack.

    Items randomly disappeared

Nope. Welcome to DayZ, it's in alpha currently.

    Remove NVG Poll

Add the "It's an Alpha, and everything you've said has been said before." option, too.
  23. There's a program I linked in the OP - MSI Afterburner - which does is exactly what you want, and is free. It can still be encoded using this guide from step one to further reduce the file size. LTFR! I've used FRAPS for any video where I want the quality to be the best, and I've yet to run out of space recording since I've not come across a situation where I want to record for more than 30 minutes of footage at a time. I'm certainly not in love with FRAPS in any way, but since I use a SSD as a system drive and two 10k RPM Western Digital VelociRaptors in RAID0 for footage there's no downside for me aside from the time to re-encode. System load caused by FRAPS is primarily down to the storage it's writing to - with a program that is encoding as it stores, that load is lessened but it's only replaced by the load on the CPU as it does the encoding.
  24. Yep, that's my primary concern. I've contacted the original author, but they've not been active for a few days on the original forums. If he's not okay with a re-post, I'll get this removed, but it's such a good guide I didn't want to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for the go-ahead only for him never to log on and read his private messages :) I've now had a response from the author and he's entirely happy with the re-post. If he's okay with it, then I'll replace the video he used (Tribes: Ascend, it's a great game) as an example with some DayZ footage re-encoded using the guide.

    The Best Sidearm In Dayz

Same as before the ArmA2 OA nerf - the M1911 and Revolver offer the same damage. Also, as before the nerf, the Revolver has better damage and accuracy at range - the M1911's damage will drop off sooner than the Revolver's, and will be less accurate (as an added bonus, the Revolver's iron sights are better, too). However, the M1911 offers a faster rate of fire and an extra bullet per magazine. I believe it also reloads a little bit faster, but there's not much in it. I used to prefer the M1911, but even before the nerf patch I switched to the revolver for the benefits it offers. Still find myself expecting that extra shot, but it's a better gun overall.
