    Faith, humanity - lost.

This honestly isn't any kind of rant - I took risks and paid the price. It's more about reactions to other players. Having recently started playing with a friend, after he went for the night I decided I would head into cherno and grab some supplies before doing the same. I was decently kitted out, sporting an AKM and the M1911, and not lacking ammo. After ransacking the supermarket, and as I started to crawl my way towards the sea, I was suddenly pinned by heavy rifle fire (a semi-auto). Unable to locate my attacker nearby, I attempted to get to the nearest cover as a dozen or so rounds hit the ground around me. I can only assume it was a sniper on a tower, as the only shot that hit me, killed me. I was annoyed, at myself for not being more careful, but obviously at this bandit as well. As I started anew, I swore to myself that I'd shoot on sight from now on. Having made my way to the southern airstrip outside Balota, I heard gunfire coming from the tower. Being extra (super duper) cautious, I made my way to the lower level as two others fought off zombies on the ground and upper levels. Climbing the inside of the tower, I picked up a hunting rifle and ammunition, and eventually came to the top level. There, a single person was watching as a final zombie lurched along the catwalk around the outside of the tower, to the door he'd just come through. Apparently out of ammunition, he responded to my "friendly" with a warning about the zombie as it backed him into a corner. A single shot from me took care of the zombie, and I was thanked. I asked if the rifle I'd found was theirs, as I could hear the other person still below us in the tower. As the second person came up the stairs, their friend said "Don't shoot each other", and a single moment went past where I considered ignoring it and ending them both. As the moment ended, I turned back to the friend and got a bullet between my eyes. I said before that I'd pull the trigger first, that I'd be a survivor and not a sucker, but my faith and humanity made me hesitate. I should have known the only reason the first didn't shoot is because of a lack of ammunition, not as a thankyou. I should thank them, however. Faith in others or humanity in yourself make you weaker than those who have discarded both.

Not everyone is a potential enemy.

The topic title is wrong. *Everyone* is a potential enemy. Some may be friends, some may be unknown but ask for/offer help, but they are still all potential enemies.

    How does character reset work?

It can happen - mine was "reset" earlier today. However, once I hit respawn (to die, and start anew) it returned me to my previous character properly. This should only be done if you're thrown into a new character without being told you were dead, and without being given the option to select male/female.
  4. Considering I can't join any servers with 94945+1.7.2.3 (Waiting For Host), I've been using 94876, and I've not noticed any lack of matches. I did finally find a toolbox. And then another which I'm saving for a friend. And then another five minutes later.

    DayZ and us - Merchandise

Rocket was wearing his Anyone in Cherno? tee at Rezzed when I met him. I also snagged one of the Chernarus maps in exchange for beans! (Well, frank&beans). He mentioned that they were going to get them available at some point in the future. Tip: Rocket likes Zombie energy drinks.

What gun did you find the first time?

First gun I found was a Lee Enfield, and a single mag. Aptly named the Dinner Bell, as the first time I pulled the trigger it took less than a minute to die. After that, I picked up (variously) a Crossbow, a Makarov PM, a double-barreled shotgun, and a Winchester. Not all at once, obviously. Some were discarded for others, some were lost when I died a few times. I've now settled on an AKM and a 1911. If I come across another crossbow, however, I'll likely grab that and store it. The 1911 is a fantastic weapon, though.
  7. Except it has no filter options at all :P All you can do is sort via the columns, but I've not seen any options to filter based on patch number, ping, players, location etc.
  8. Yeah, that's what I've been doing but it'd be nice to have an actual list of favourite servers - or even just a history list.

Not everyone is a potential enemy.

I'd like to help people I don't know, but it's as risky as running around cherno holding a chemlight. Doesn't mean I'll go out of my way to make their day any worse, of course, but unless I've already got a buddy covering my back I won't be rushing to help you out.

tents on a server and dropped items

Tents also have some funny ideas about level, unobstructed ground, apparently.
  11. How do you fave a server using the in-game server browser? I've taken to writing down the server IDs and a keyword (eg; "FR 22" and the name of the host or provider).

    Backpack confusion?

I'd suggest moving away from items on the ground before you open your pack to lessen confusion. When you open your pack, it should show items in the list on the left if your inventory - some will have numbers on the left side of the list, which means they're in the pack. Numbers on the right mean the item is in your base inventory (normal inv, toolbelt, etc). To move an item between your inventory and pack, click the item in the list and use the arrows to either side of it - left arrow moves it to your pack, right arrow moves it out. At the top of the list you'll see the name of your pack, followed by two numbers which are the free/total slots in that pack (eg; Coyote Patrol Pack - 4/8, means you have 4 slots out of 8 free in your pack). If you access items on the ground first, and then open your pack, you will be presented with a better, icon style, view for the items in your backpack along with the list on the left. The difference here is that numbers on the left of the list will indicate the ground, with the numbers on the right the pack. It's confusing at first, but take things slow and remember NOT to transfer weapons from the ground to a pack unless you want to risk losing them - a main weapon like a rifle requires 10 slots, and a sidearm requires 5. That means, attempting to transfer a rifle to the standard Coyote Patrol Pack (the one you start with) will destroy the weapon. Transferring either type of weapon to a pack that has insufficient space will likely do the same.
  13. I've only been shot once while scavenging, and I never even saw who shot me. That was out at a barn along the coast, nowhere special. I've seen others being chased by zombies, and I've tried to call out and ask if they need help, but I have no idea if my voice chat is working. Hopefully when I get to meet up with my friend, I'll be able to test it and find out. I will, however, shoot anyone that has spotted me unless they keep their distance and don't act aggressive. If I'm startled by anyone, I'll be shooting without a second's thought. I'm a Survivor, not a Sucker.
