I have the same cpu as you but not overclocked. My gpu is HD 5870 1 gig. 6 gigs ram. I have my settings on normal. All of them. I get between 55 and 75 FPS on average. I have done nothing special with Arma II / Dayz. The only thing I have done is I defraged and optimised My Arma II file using smart defrag. A free program that is part of the free Advanced system care package from Iobit. The reason I did this was my hard drive seemed to be the bottleneck for me and caused stuttering at times. I no longer have any issues at all. The only time my FPS drops below 50 is when I use fraps and for some reason it caps at 30. (no I don't have freeze fraps at 30 FPS selected) Some systems with identical gear can have vastly different results. What is running in the background can often be at fault. Also I let the application choose the settings for my GPU which is on default settings. Hope you get it sorted.

Lighten up. You just make yourself look bad using the "go back to COD" sentence. Not to mention doing the cause of wanting the game to be less like COD any favours at all. Let him tell his story. I like to hear about people loosing buses no matter what my opinion is of their gameplay. There are plenty of threads about how people think other people should play the game. Let's not turn this into another one of those threads..

Nice, just be careful out there. You can't help people if your dead.

Where do people make there camp?
Patient Zero replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well vehicles can still be kept of map but they have to be used / saved every 24 hours or they get respawned back on the main map. Tents / camps though are wiped without notice now if it's of the map. So some vehicles will still be of map but it's a huge step to fixing the exploit. I don't think the massive of map parking lots will be a feature any more, and you and your mate should have more luck now finding vehicles. Edit: link as requested. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=29123 -
Where do people make there camp?
Patient Zero replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unfortunately a lot of people hide stuff off the map because they're scared to play the game properly. Those of us with balls larger than acorns just find a nice forest area away from high-traffic areas. As of today that is no longer possible. Of map hording has been fixed. -
Luckiest loot you've discovered?
Patient Zero replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Luckiest ? Probably when some sicko was having his fun by fireing his pistol at me at close range while shouting "dance dance" on direct voice. Quite funny I guess, but I was unarmed. I kept running hoping he would give up or run out of ammo. I ran into one of those small wooden sheds that only have one entrance. He kept saying "you no wanna play no more ? come out, you dance so well". What he didn't realise was I found a a corpse inside with a revolver. Now the ending of this story should have been epic, I should be able to tell you I wiped the smile of his face. But sadly, I came out shooting and somehow missed the git, and he managed to put me down:( But was still in my mind the "luckiest" loot find for me. Even if it didn't end as I had hoped for. Also can so relate to the guy finding the bandage. Many times I have been in search of a bandage while watching my blood count drop. Never found anything like NVG but it's the things you find that save your life at the time that give me the biggest kick. If my watter icon was flashing red for example, finding a soda would be more epic than NVG's. After all, you have to be alive to use them. -
Blood has a big impact. 12000 - Max Blood < 9000 - Sussceptible to "one shot Knock out" from zombies < 8000 - Colour and sound begin to fade < 5000 - May fall Unconscious < 4000 - Black and white screen, loss of much hearing capability 0 - Player Dead There does seem to be a bug at times though affecting knockouts. But I can't find anything confirming this apart from many personal reports such as on this thread. Edit : Also personally I find the knockout to last too long. In just about any situation you may as well be dead. Zombies knock you out, they will eat you in the time it takes to regain conciousness. Knockout from a player and well, tbh wouldn't matter if the timer was 5 seconds so that doesn't really matter. Does seem a bit long though. Just my opinion.

Other than using abusive or racist language on direct chat you should be ok, as the radius of people who can hear you is relatively small. And anyone spamming direct chat just for the sake of it is more likely than not to be found with an axe implanted in their character anyway. I speak with people on direct all the time for various reasons. The radius of affect is smaller than you would think. Not sure if written text has a larger radius or not, never tested it.

Shit like this is turning me off DayZ :/
Patient Zero replied to iStP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I realise I am tempting fate, but I have non combat encounters with at least one person every time I play and have never, Yes Never been double crossed. I will only stop and deal with people if the respond by voice. I'm not gonna take my eyes of you to read your chat. And your voice tells me dozens of things about you. Before we get in close proximity I will have told you in friendly, but clear terms that if your gun gets pointed at me then expect to loose your head. I don't turn my back on people either. But most of all I think it's the fact that before I even come out of cover both parties are under no illusion as to what will happen if they even sneeze. I socialise with strangers a lot and have found surprisingly that the vast majority have been decent people. Sometimes I team up with them, but I trust my instincts and decline if I have the slightest doubt. I also tend to make sure they are never behind me ;) I help new players a lot but I do so carefully. I will give them a gun if I have a pistol spare, but I tell them to wait there and I will leave ammo for it by that sign 50 meters away. Then say goodbye and good luck, and if you follow me I will shoot you. Guess what I am saying is you can be nice and decent, (I murder no one) but you still have to keep your security as top priority. A mic is a must to let players know they are approaching your position and will be fired on if they continue. If they answer by voice there is a chance we may have a social encounter. But always on my terms. Some people will always be dicks. But I have found if your decent but firm with people they will be decent back. Edit: lol just had to add an encounter I just remembered... I had just spawned and had no weapon, not even an axe when 3 armed players appeared out of nowhere. One of their team was injured and they were new players looking for the hospital. I told them I was heading there myself. But during the first minute of our encounter the 3 of them were talking amongst themselves asking each other if they should trust me as they had seen youtube vids of people being robed etc. I stood there, unarmed as 3 players with guns struggled with the dilemma of whether I was a threat or not. how sweet :) -
At the moment it's actually pretty good because the moon is out. Lets see if you think the same when there is no moon or complete cloud cover/ raining. I do agree though, the atmosphere of this mod at night is awesome and provides some pant staining moments. But for me it get's frustrating except at times like this when like I said there is at least some light from the moon. Also don't be surprised if this thread gets locked. Check the stikied threads above ;)

epic car chase with me on the motorcycle
Patient Zero replied to Steven89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
May I suggest editing your first post with the video link. -
Wait till night.. Use newly acquired NVG's to get to medical supplies. But main advice is enjoy them, and get used to the fact that you will loose them. Most properly in the same way you came across them in the first place but roles reversed. Everything you find you will loose eventually. And gratz on finding NVG's. lucky sod, I hate you !

Cheers for clearing that up for me.

Why do you people think that every other person has to be role playing in order to role play yourself. I role play my character to a certain extent. But when someone out of no where for no reason tries to shoot me the role player in me just thinks it's some poor sod who has lost his mind due to the apocalypse and is now so afraid he shoots at everything on sight. Role play is limited by your imagination, not limited by how others play the game.

Don't mean to hijack your thread but didn't want to make a thread for one question. Do tents follow you from server to server ? Or are they permanently on the server where you placed them. Been playing a long time but never used tents, and not sure of the answer here.

Question about people shooting but not killing
Patient Zero replied to kozzy420's topic in New Player Discussion
If your not sure someone is alive or dead and they have taken some damage you can if you have blood bags see if the option to give them a transfusion is there or not. If they are bleeding check if you are able to bandage them. None of these options are available if the person is dead. -

Broken bones, no morphine, not fun.

Beat me too it. Was gonna say another solution would be to read the upcoming changes to broken limbs in the next patch. -
Time for the [RP] tag? (Prototype thread.)
Patient Zero replied to dajonkel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How do I role play a double agent that joins the clan of my enemy to gather info. Am I supposed to tell them when I join I am am gathering intel on you all so we can murder you all to gain influence in our area, but it's ok to let me in cause I'm role playing. As pointed out, announcing you are role playing is not needed at all. I don't go through real life announcing to people my name and what I do for a living and the reasons behind my last action. Really have to get away from the idea that role players have to tell the world they are RP'ing, because just by announcing that imo it's kills my own immersion in my character. -
Time for the [RP] tag? (Prototype thread.)
Patient Zero replied to dajonkel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have to agree with ZDB which is why I said you don't need a single other person in game to be a RPer to RP yourself. You make up your own reasons for other peoples behaviour. Putting rules around RP'ing just restricts those that RP in a different way from yourself. Also this mod only suceeds because of it's lack of restrictions on how you play. Other than that I am always happy to see RP'ers in game. Whether they are the Axe muderer or the medic makes no odds to me. It all adds to my experience. -
Time for the [RP] tag? (Prototype thread.)
Patient Zero replied to dajonkel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This game has loads of RP'ers . I see them all the time. I just don't think they realise they are role playing. Edit: Also you don't need a single other person in game to be role playing to be able to role play yourself. That's what is exciting about this game. It has something for everyone and so many play styles are happening side by side. Not always to everyones pleasure but the excitement for me is seeing how this world changes from moment to moment. -
Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

Just had a vision of groups trying to work out how to place all their vehicles on a boat and log out at sea 70 k south lol High speed run of one of the harbour walls maybe. -
Coughing, but not losing blood
Patient Zero replied to hobbicon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You have about 48 hours before you turn into a zombie is my guess. Or could be a cold and you need antibiotics. Which I have never ever seen in game yet.
