    Next patch due?

Hey y'all, sorry if I missed it. Has there been any hints or suggestions of how soon the next patch will be out? Very keen to see if it fixes the desync issues some of my mates are having so they can play with me again ;) I know, I know "When it's ready".

What time zone are you on? Are you signed up for the experimental patches through steam?

    Bohemia interactive PLEASE READ

Are you familiar with Brooks Law which basically says that getting more staff resources to work on a project willy nilly does not mean speeding up or improving the project beyond a certain point? More people means more management, more second guessing, more duplication and inefficiency. Hiring has to be done very carefully and only get the right people to do specific things that the team requires. Sometimes the best products come from very small teams with a pure vision. Software development always takes time and I think people with experience in the field would be feeling pretty good about where DayZ standalone is right now.
  5. Just join straight back into that server. Everyone will be in the same spot or there'll be even fewer people.
  6. Heh I've seen that floating stump, south of Gorka?
  7. Yeah I lost mine with the server connecting to hive bug thing last night too. Sucks for a minute then you realise you get the fun of running carefree through cities while gearing up again. This life I just found 3 protector cases!

How many hours have you played?

186 since release *But there's a chance I left it on overnight once or twice ;)
  9. Last night our group of 5 were in Gorka just topping up food, as background we are all pretty geared up but we don't dress mil spec or masks - more hunting gear. By nature we aren't bandits, we always tell people we are friendly and have offered to help out with supplies when meeting people in the past. So we are checking the big houses in the mid south of Gorka, I'm hanging back keeping an eye out when I see a player on the northern slopes near the factory. I call it out, unclear if we'd been seen at that point everyone takes cover where we can until we know if they are friendly. Me and one other friend go prone and start working our way up that small wooded hill to the SW of town to get a better view. We catch a few glimpses of the guy on the far side of the warehouse but then lose him. Suddenly we see him almost on top of us - he is in mil spec gear with an M4 out and raised but he somehow hasn't seen us in the trees and starts moving past us to the town. I have a lot going through my mind here - I could call out for him to stop but he was side on to me with gun ready and he could easily have turned and shot before me. It seemed like there wasn't a good reason for him to be flanking round our groups last known position with gun ready and I couldn't see a safe way to defuse things so I pulled my magnum, aimed with heart pumping and emptied it into him, and my mate got a shot in with his rifle too. Took a few minutes to calm down again after that. Did I read it right? What would you have done?

Would you have shot this guy?

But wouldn't you say trying to stealthily flank behind a group of players when you have a clear path to just walk away is a 'threatening stance'? If this was really the zombie apocalypse and I saw a lone gunman with an assault rifle and a clown mask sneaking up on me I'm pretty sure I'd be threatened.

Would you have shot this guy?

Yeah same, I've never had an encounter before this when I was the agressor but here I had a snap decision as I only had a few seconds before I lost sight of him and he was moving towards the rear of the rest of my groups position. In hindsight it may have been worth calling for him to stop and hoping he didn't try anything but then what's the play from there? If he actually stops do you make him drop his guns and keep the upper hand or trust him to lower guns and not shoot? Next time I mjight try to tell him to stop before I shoot. *FWIW we've mostly been alive for over 20 hours playtime with current characters and noone is wearing helmets, masks etc, we deliberately don't want to appear threatening (like this guy did).

    Deer stands/barns

I have never found a single bit of loot in deer stands or the 3 level barns, in the standalone. Is it just that they are all looted before I get there, or aren't they loot spawns any more?

Bored? Try this new play style.

Hold up all players encountered at gunpoint. If they have too much gear, take some. If they don't have enough, give them some. Give all some communist literature if possible.

map in 4 pieces is nonsense thing

How do you use the map, btw?
  15. My thoughts? Slither up that hill and take em out, axe if you have to!
  16. Oh nice I took care of a few bandits in Elektro yesterday who took out my mate, hopefully I got some of your friends.

    I am a cold-blooded murderer

I never attack players unless they start hostilities but I'm glad there's people that do - all of the best moments in this game is when you are in a pvp combat situation!

    TEMPORARY TROUBLESHOOTING TOPIC

I also can't find any servers - I have tried setting max ping and max players to high numbers, clicked internet and clicked refresh but still no joy - any ideas? I've added exceptions in windows firewall. *And forwarded ports 2302-2305 UDP on the off chance it needs the Arma 3 ports open?

    DayZ Stories

We had an awesome encounter last night. Me and my mate have both been in this life for a fair while now so we have all the basic survival gear, weapons etc. Starting to want some excitement we headed up to the NE airfield. There was only a few players in the server so we were pretty careless, deliberately aggroed zombies and took them out as they came up the control tower stairs. After that we checked out the hangars and my mate picked up a PDW with 3 clips which was a great find for him as he hadn't been carrying a secondary weapon. I started to head out of the hangar while he loaded up and since we were running low on meat I thought I'd butcher a sheep on the far side of the runway, out into the field a little. All of a sudden I hear shots ring out and yell asking if it was him. He says no, and next thing I go down with a broken leg but still conscious. I start crawling further out into the field zig zagging as much as possible with shots kicking up dust all around me! I'm shouting out I'm under fire but have no idea where from. All of a sudden I hear 2 long bursts from the PDW ring out, then a pause and another shot. My friend found him sniping at me from between the hangars! He told me he emptied the PDW then finished the guy off with a winchester round to the head while taking return fire. Result: 1 bandit kill on his scoreboard :) I quickly used morphine for my leg, then ran over and gave a blood transfusion and got one too because we were both on 4-5000 blood at this point. We were pumped up with adrenaline and hearts racing so we quickly looted the guys body (he had tons of gear), buried him then ran off into the forest to the north still half expecting him to have friends closing in on us and waiting for another bullet. All of a sudden we ran into a pickup truck, just into the forest! Assuming/hoping it was his we jump in and take off carefully weaving between trees. After getting well clear of the airfield we stopped to see if there was any gear in the back. Jackpot!!! We find an M248, FN FALs, AS50, spare fuel, food, drink, medical and tons more. We gear up and then head off into the wilderness again, with a taste for hunting more bandits.
  20. You're an idiot. I'm an atheist and I have 0 murders in the game across all my lives. Religion is far more scary than atheism.
  21. Thats good! It probably means you aren't an asshole like most bandits. ;)

Tom Berenger has a lot to answer for

+1 - IMHO military grade snipers don't play a big part in the zompocalypse. Scoped rifles sure but real sniper rifles should be rarer than hens teeth if in the game at all.

    Worst Game Experience ever

The broken mechanic has given me two of my best gaming moments ever... although I get that not having any idea where to find a hospital makes it a lot more sucky. IMO using one of the online maps makes this game 100% better and you should start the game with at least a basic one.
  24. I've had awesome fun with this game, working with friends and a few strangers, surviving against all odds etc. I'm totally OK with having PVP and the constant threat of bandits but twice in 2 nights now I have been sniped in the back in tiny remote towns & wilderness areas by someone I couldn't even see - and I am a cautiously paranoid player. After spending hours looking for gear having to start from scratch again is getting a bit old - it just isn't fun or challenging. I know this game isn't necessarily meant to be "fun" but when this happens it just makes me want to quit the game for the night. My suggestion would be tone down PVP damage. Make it just a bit harder to kill someone. Maybe remove some of the high powered weapons or at least make them as rare as hens teeth. It would be way more fun taking on a rag tag bunch of bandits with pistols and shotties where I have a chance of applying some strategy to survive. Maybe reduce the amount of ammo available too so the bandits actually have to weigh up using the bullets to kill people. /flamesuit on
  25. Yup I feel dirty even posting about this. I've been playing solidly for a few weeks and loving it. But I think it is valid feedback to say that getting arbitrarily killed without having a chance to stop it takes away from the game. Maybe the thing is that in real life most people don't behave like this because there are consequences to actions. In the game there are no negative consequences. Don't really know what the answer is though.
