Run away from the coast while looking for barns. if you spot one, find a bush and wait a few minutes. The zombies will spread out and if you time it right you should be able to sneak in. You goal at this point is to not die and to find a hatchet. Once you find a hatchet, pick it up, open your inventory, right click on the hatchet, select 'remove from toolbelt". Now you can learn how to use a hatchet. Swing away. Just expect to die a lot and the learning curve is part of the fun.

sorry man. Have you tried playing other games through proxies?

I don't know about that. Wasn't rocket in the military and had plans to climb a mountain this spring? I imagine a guy like that could probably handle a little mental and physical stress. But I can tell you what I think could be getting his blood pressure up. It would probably be those unoriginal fuckheads that blatantly steal from him every chance they get and all their other puppet bullshit they pull. Their most recent attempt to ride DayZ's coattails backfired in their faces and I think rocket and co had enough foresight to see what was coming this month and stepped back and let those assholes slip on their own turd. Or not. I just know those generic brand fuckers piss me off and I'm just some random guy. I've also seen that "rocket has high blood pressure because of the game" line posted a handful of times on reddit, though usually followed by "he got kicked out of the military too", and just wanted to piss on it.

Do not get attached to your gear. Print out a good map so you can reference the location displayed in the bottom right corner of your screen when you first spawn or when you log in. Clouds always drift west to east. If you're lost, this will at least give you a general heading. Check barns, sheds, and warehouses for a hatchet. Once you find one, open up your inventory and right click on your hatchet. Select "remove from toolbelt". Now you can defend yourself from zombies (don't forget to reload ;) ) and any player that gets within range. Some players will not shoot at characters that are only carrying a hatchett. Zombies drop most of the basic loot you need to survive. Food, drinks, bandages, and ammo can be found on zombies. Kill them with your hatchet if you can. Shooting attracts zombies and players. Pay attention to your stance. The prone and crouch positions lower your visibility to zombies . Moving slowly and choosing what surfaces you u step on reduces the noise you make. Rebind your sprint key to something you feel comfortable with. Always carry at least 3 bandages. Morphine will fix your fractured/broken leg and allow your character to walk. Always try to have two. Rifles take up 10 backpack slots, handguns 6. Do not put any weapon into your pack unless you have the right amount of space for both the weapon and ammo. If you have raw meat but you don't have any matches, you can cook your raw meat over the fire barrels found in major towns. Tap control left twice to lower your weapon. This is very useful when meeting experienced players. Only do this if you obviously do not have the upper hand in a potential pvp situation and the other players haven't opened fire yet. Experienced players will consider you less of a threat if you do this and your chances of being shot decrease dramatically. You can raise your weapon again by double tapping left control or by clicking your left mouse button. Always keep your distance from even the "friendliest" players. When leaving a friendly encounter, always choose a different direction from the one they're travelling in. You stand a good chance of being shot if you appear to be following them. You're going to die a lot. Find a good whitelisted server.

Six Launcher is out of date I think. Use PlaywithSix. You can install most maps and quite a few other Arma mods through PlaywithSix. Every map other than Chernarus has been made and ported to DayZ by the community. It's up to them to update the maps when a new version comes out. There are also two versions of Taviana so make sure you install them both unless you know absolutely what version the server is running and what version you have installed.

What is this "store" thing you speak of?

What kind of player are you?
sixbarns replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hero at first but I eventually turned into a bandit. -
How does one hunt down a kill on sight player in a game of anonymous and nearly identical character models? Until they add in a killed by message there will be no way to ever know who did what.

I don't really have any of those problems but I hear it's annoying. I do wonder what could be keeping those DayZ guys... perhaps some type of event or gathering of gamers or industry professionals could be going on. Or maybe they're just trolling guys like you OP? I guess we'll never know. It's a shame they don't communicate this type of thing in interviews or through a news section of this very website. Don't they know they're our slaves and are meant to code around the clock for our amusement?! /s

I know right! Like, OMG, having a bandit head instead of a body couldn't have been intentional so players could still use the camo or any other clothing that may be found in the game in the future. Rocket did this just to piss us off! Derp (inb4 idiots posting "but you can't use the camo, ghillie, or my little pony dress with the bandit head" because they think this game is done and would rather EA make it...)

So...who exactly is this game supposed to be hard for?
sixbarns replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't been spawn camped so starting without a weapon is fine for me at least. Even if spawn camping was a major issue, starting out with a weapon wouldn't solve it. OP made a lot of other interesting points and I'm all for making the game much more difficult for experienced players. Maybe this will change when content is added to the game and AI is rewritten? I doubt Rocket and Co. are looking at the game thinking, "well, this looks good enough." -
He has such a refreshing take on it. There must be rules to these posts somewhere. I bet it's something like this: 1. say you like dayz 2. mention WarZinc as if it's somehow comparable 3. try to get people to support a pay to win model in a roundabout way 4. pretend spamming warz garbage wasn't sole purpose of thread

This is why DayZ is NOT failing.

Uhhhh.. no. Second Life is where the most hardcore casual carebears play. I'd shoot them and steal their beans if given half the chance.
