    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

This better be awesome and not just another ''pay more money for the same thing'' deal that the gaming industry has been pulling on us for some time now. A better engine then Arma 2 engine is the least one could ask for if we are going to be charged again (yes I only got operation arrowhead to play DayZ, Had arma 2 for ages and didnt like it) New map would be nice aswell or else I keep my moneyz I'm not greedy or pissed. All I'm saying is that we can actually demand some quality game to be released and not a half finished product 'under construction'. Its kinda rockets job now to blow our minds with an epic game that is going to completely change the zombie game genre more then DayZ arma 2 mod did

Broken leg? No morphine? Very good

To Rocket & the “Hardcore” crowd

A lot of the ideas are far from original and just follow standards set in other games' date=' which are things that many DayZ players are sick of. I think that's one of the main reasons that people get so passionate and defensive about "new" ideasl; they've already played that stuff to death. Original ideas are good, especially those few that fit in with the ethos of DayZ, but too many ideas are just far too conservative for what DayZ is about. As Rocket once said regarding bog-standard feature suggestions - "Jesus, it's like trying wean people off fucking heroin!" [/quote'] It is funny to think what the Arma 2 community would've said if anyone actually made the suggestion of a zombie apocalypse mod for the game. My guess is that it would've been hated on even though game turned out very original. But on paper it sounds like shit and the response would've been ''L4d2 is 19.99 on steam....'' Just to put things in a perspective.

Uh' date=' I don't think you quite understand the what the "hardcore" crowd of Arma2 is. Hardcore in Arma2 is playing on expert settings, with ACE ACRE and any other realism mods available. It's learning how to: -land nav with only a map and a compass while being dropped in an entirely random area -properly execute fireteam, squad, and company sized tactics to accomplish the objective. -use proper radio protocol with radio discipline so you can communicate effectively at range. -how to perform all roles of a company so that you can do what the team needs (JTAC, FO, FTL, SQL, 1IC, 2IC, RTO, etc) -etc Unlike other games a lot of games, hardcore in Arma2 is the skill set you develop from playing the game. It doesn't matter what mod or difficulty or set of features you are playing with, these skills translate across. If anything, the game only gets easier by removing harder elements (absence of stamina in DayZ, absence of wind, being able to meta game, etc). Too many new players are joining DayZ, thinking they are "hardcore" or understand what "hardcore" means in an Arma context because they are used to conventions used by the rest of the gaming industry. There is nothing related to "hardcore" about having the best gear, sociopath like PvP, gamma exploits, duping exploits, disconnecting on contact, etc. Those are merely ways people play the game; some choose to kill everyone, some choose to cheat. There is no mechanic that a real hardcore player exploits; they simply know how to play the game. I would also like to clarify the difference between elitism and elite. Elite players can execute any of the skills sets and more that I identified above. You don't have to be an arrogant jackass to be an elite player. Elitism is being an arrogant jackass regardless of the reason. [/quote'] Hardcore gamers are the same across the board. They play games and get good at them. Some exploit, some RP others do not. Just because Arma 2 have a very cool Hardcore fanbase doesnt mean that they are not hardcore players. The Irony of it all is that the hardcore players are very good at adapting to changes but are very reluctant to do so. How many posts about DayZ destroying the arma 2 community have been made on these boards? Just because we use different words to describe these groups does not make my point void.

Complete bullshit. Name one game as an example of this. In fact there's already quite a few games that stand as examples that you absolutely *don't* have to "tone down" (ie. casualize / dumbify) and appease the casual masses. Games like Dwarf Fortress and many other roguelikes are about as HC as you can get within games' date=' barring heavy duty flight sims etc, have done absolutely nothing towards making the games more casual or accessible. In fact many of them have just become more complex, cruel and "hardcore" over the years and what has the end result been? A faithful cult following, that's what. Sure, if you want to go crazy big and MTV large you have to suck the proverbial casual dick, but for all intents and purposes, rocket doesn't have the slightest intention of doing so, at least with the mod. This is a [i']good thing too, since there's already plenty enough games designed with the lowest common denominator in mind. Not saying any game should be dumbed down but the Hardcore crowd sometimes seem to be a bit too hatefull agains new thinking. Out of the top of my head is Crpg. Even though its not 'dead' only the really hardcore people still play it and they QQ like never before. Darkfall suffered the same fate since the hardcore FPS gamers wanted quakefall and it didnt help that Aventurine have no clue how to make a sandbox mmo. Project reality is has been slowly dying for some time now because the hardcore crowds (who ofc have all the servers) refuse to put certain maps in rotation and play the new mods so people get bored of the same maps day in and day out. I consider myself a hardcore gamer but unlike some I dont act like a butthurt douchebag on the forums and try to run a personal crusade agains mainstream gaming. I try to put some faith in the dev team instead of spreading hatefull posts making fun of people that dont waste 6-20h a day on stupid videogames unlike myself.

A hardcore crowd can be very good sometimes since you tend to get a more stable playerbase that dont stop playing unless you really fuck up (Star wars galaxies). But I do however dislike the conservative nature of the hardcore crowd and their way to hate on any original ideas. The reason for this I believe is that the hardcore crowd always figure out a way to exploit intended mechanics in games and once change is on the way they lose their edge. DayZ is a very unique idea. So naturally the Casual gamers want to change things that make the game less tidious and difficult and the hardcore gamers hate their ideas. Too many games have died simply because the hardcore crowd always slow down the progression of the game. ''we cant have this it fucks up that'' and so on. And all too many games have died because it turned into a casual easy-mode that gets boring after half an hour.

    New mod is fucked up

This are known issues and the devs have stated that they are working on solving them. Only solution right now is to try over and over again on different servers. Sometimes going back to the 'mission menu' and not completely disconnecting from the server works. Welcome to Alpha

Please don't hate on me when you read this

Its possible this is how you do it! Step 1. Buy a computer Step 2. Name it Xbox, Ps3, console which ever one you fancy Step 3. Get a gamepad that you can hook up to the 'console' Step 9. Make your tv screen the monitor Step 4. Leave all your creditcard information for everyone to see And voilá you have now created the ultimate console simulation and can enjoy playing DayZ on it!

Poll: Do you play at night?

I would play during night if flashlights didnt totally suck. You can barely see 20m in front of you and if you want to see anything at all you have to walk slowly everywhere. Instead of having a focus point like real flashlights and the brains to point it forward. If that is fixed playing during night would be pretty cool. Also being able to attach flashlights to guns with duct tape would be awesome.

    Devz, get your shit together.

I once got too attached to a thread on a forum. After a personal intevention by my friends and family they finally convinced me to go to a rehab for forum addicts and I've been happy ever since. I havent written a single post or followed a thread on a forum ever since!
