Sound, Visibility, and Zombie Aggro Behavior
terrvik replied to WitchZero's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would be a good way to counter campers. Sure, you can lie down and snipe from afar but every zombie in a 200 meter radius heard that shot and are slowly moving to your position. Keep moving to stay alive! -
I think some of them should be in bright colors. Risk and reward! :)

Which T-Shirt design would you buy?
terrvik replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I would love a combination of 1 and 2. Just the DayZ logo and Alpha Survivor in a smaller font under it. Clean and simple! -
there is no need in morality system/bandits term/factions

I believe that as this game evolves the balance between what you gain through cooperation and what you gain by killing other players will, if not even out, at least benefit both playstyles. The game should be really hard. It should be necessary to team up. But it should also be necessary to consider shooting another survivor for the resources. As long as there are no "rules" or immersion breaking game mechanics like safe zones or PvP-punishments i'm happy. One thing I don't agree on though is that the loot spawns should be completely random. I think the loot to some extent should spawn in buildings in whick said loots "fit in" (said it before, but; sidearms in police stations, weaker medicine in drugstores, tools in general stores etc.) There should still be a random element to it, but I like to think that when your group realizes that antibiotics is needed to save a squad mate there will be a natural "sidequest" to locate a facility nearby where it is LIKELY to be and assess how dangerous the trip will be. This will probably make people team up to gain access to more frequently visited and hostile hotspots. And as a big nice immersion bonus it makes sense in the world if certain items spawn in certain buildings. -
Hmmm. If you have both matches and wood as an requirement there wouldn't really be any point int using a stove inside a house now when I think about it. You can place a fireplace anywhere so lighting up a house is too great a risk if you need the same stuff to do it anyway.

Realistic Temperature Suggestion Thread
terrvik replied to TheSlyFawkes's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like most of the ideas in this thread. Nice brainwork. I long for the day when I spot a survivor on a warm day swimming around in a pond with all his gear left on shore. There is a lot of potential in the temperature system. I think it will be really immersive when you are travelling around on a sunny day needing to plan your route through the woods to stay out of the sun because your water supply is running short. -
So you just ambushed a lone survivor and watched him fall down unconscious after a shot in the back. He is leaking blood. He will probably bleed to death. Even if he gets up again you are right there to put him right back to the ground again. Instead you approach his body and slits his throat... If you have the hunting knife, what if you could choose "Murder" as an action when pointing at an incapacitated player body? I'm sure this could be really effective with some nasty sound effects and a simple animation. And somehow oddly satisfying. As of now we don't really know how the humanity system is going to work, but this would of course have a huge "negative" effect. It would just be a really dark way to dispose of yet another victim.

It would be cool if you could fish but you will NEVER catch anything. This mod is depressing like that.

Why the hell would you raise your temperature when indoors anyway? It's not like the heat is on! Maybe to take cover from rain, but you would need to fire up the awesome heat machine to benefit fully from moving to your own place.
-
Yes it does. But this would be a way to speed up the process while inside. Just another possibility i guess. :)

The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
terrvik replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Will the temperature go the other way as well? If i run like a maniac in the sun, will my thirst levels go down rapidly? It makes sense. Going for a long trek on a sunny day? Stick to the shades under the trees and bring lots of water. -
Oh yeah, you need to click the picture to the right, not in the list to the left. :)

Try the bandages. Only them and the water bottles worked for me. (out of the starting gear that is)
-
IF you pick up one of them axes lying around perhaps? :)

So since the update I don't get hit by zombies anymore. :S They charge me, I take a step back and then I can just stand back at give them warm smiles. Or shoot them. Don't know if its my connection or some sync problem, the AI is handled by "me", right? Tested it out in a town. Was surrounded by zombies but didn't loose any blood or take damage. Anyway, thought I should say something. :)

Antibiotics are in the game. I found them once. Lost them shortly after. :)

Space aliens on a clean up mission perhaps?

Me and my friend were playing last night and had a pretty good time. We started fresh after dying and had found most basic tools, including tool box, trenching tool, tent, map, compass, knife and so on. We had the weapons we liked, a lot of food and felt pretty good. We had also been playing very carefully so we really felt we earned it. "I'm tired, let's call it a night." said my friend so we started looking for a nice spot to pitch our tent. We were really tired IRL after a long session and there were only nine people on the server so we were relaxed and sure no one would find us so we eased up on our carefulness and started throwing flares to find a good spot for a tent (it was night AND raining so you saw fuck all...) Finally we found our spot, pitched our tent and made a fireplace. Then we just sat down and took some screenshots and just messed around. BANG BANG. I was dead. Two minutes later my friend was dead. :) NEVER let your guard down, haha!

I have to disagree. What I can't explain will always scare me more than what I can. That's just me though. Hehe, yeah, this is of course very much individual of course. :) I guess I just think it fits this mod more to keep it realistic in the suspended disbelief way.
-
Is that directed to me or what? :) Looks like it. You have to admit that entire premise of zombies is unrealistic anyway. I could believe that a virus could make humans super aggressive' date=' but making them super aggressive only to non-infected humans is a little odd. Realistically rabies type zombies would just rip each other up. [/quote'] Obviously yes, but it's a rather poor argument saying that something is unrealistic and that's reason enough to go bananas with it. Supernatural things are more scary when as realistic as possible. There are behaviour altering parasites in nature. An viral infection is the most realistic way to go. :)

Check the Bandit or Survivor forums. You're welcome! :)

I think that is to "gamey" and also how would a virus infection mutate ordinary people into super monsters? :)

Chernarus Free Zone Established[Norway 1]
terrvik replied to Tartantyco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love the idea of a free zone, but your mistake is claiming an area as your own exclusive zone. Don't get me wrong, I love that you are trying it, but people will not like it (not in a whiny way, but more in a "haha, let's go steal their shit" way). :)
