For some reason I have the worst performance yet. Major major desyncs, infected not moving, teleported back, can't move Hatchets from and to toolbelt (and after a while it duplicates). Pretty sure there is something wrong on my side but I have no idea what. :)
-
Could not agree more. There are already games for coordinated groups to wage war against each other. This should focus on survival, despair and paranoia not military tactics and squad based combat. :)
-
Might be an interesting addition if you were desperate to stop the bleeding but you would have to treat an infection later on? EDIT: Haha, you had time to discuss this already above. Move on.
-
There are servers that show your position on the map? Wow. I hope that will be removed. And I totally agree with what most people above are saying. There already is an orienteering system in the game using a map and a compass. No need for a mechanic beyond pressing K and M.

So tonight was the first time I died since weapons were removed from the starting gear and I have to admit... it is fucking awesome! I had more fun in the last few hours then ever before. It is not too difficult, there are more then enough guns to find, food and sodas are plentiful. If anything it should be harder. There are some issues though, but most of them have probably already been adressed; - Whenever I drop a hatchet on the ground it disappears. - The server didn't seem to force a character save on abort. I logged back in and my gear was set back a good 30 minutes. - Major desyncs, I was teleported a couple of times. - Took a screenshot. but I am too lazy to upload, but EVERY infected in Elektro stood still. Looked kind of hilarious.

This is not to complex and it fits the mood of the mod. You should always be running out of supplies and in need to scavenge for more. I really hope that the meat will be perishable in the future,

... trees!? I really don't know how the engine would handle this but since every tree is considered an entity so we can chop would of an individual tree maybe this is do-able. 1. You would need to find gear that goes in a tool slot to allow the action to show up. Something like this: http://www.eastcoastlumber.net/Equipment_Center/climbinggear/sunbeltgear/climber3.JPG 2. You will have to open your Inventory and right click "Use Gear" or something like that to put it on. This will take some time (so you won't be able to just climb up some tree in a second to hide). There must be some solution to hinder the player to wear it all the time. 3. Use the action menu to Climb Tree. It would work just as a ladder and you can look around while climbing. Climbing should be really slow. No game changing feature of course, but a fun way to help navigate, scout ahead or hide.

I am sad now.

I don't see why there couldn't be some kind of "key" function. I have no idea how to make a decent mechanic for it but if there could be ONE key (key to start the car, not to lock it) for a car which a player can have and any one who wants to steal a car without the keys would have to use a "Hotwire" action that takes 15 seconds, which would be a disaster if you are under stress. There could also be some engine sounds when trying to start it up and so on. Having a key makes it easier but it does not keep other players from stealing it.
-
I think this is one of those things that will happen once standalone but is now limited by the fact that it is a mod. :)
-
Maybe there could be sounds for all kinds of inventory interacting. A zip when the bag is opened and closed (but not when you press G) and some muffled sounds when you move stuff around. A very small addition, but it would make you hide before messing around in your backpack.

I had some problems with being teleported back (probably due to desync or something). I aborted and logged back in directly. When I got back it was day and I logged out at night. I was playing with my friend who was in the same room IRL. It was night for him and day for me. Weird. EDIT: Tried logging out and in again. Still day for me. Night for him.

What is so unrealistic with an infection that alter a persons behaviour? There are such things you know, just not this extreme.
-
I'm waiting for the first guy to use my favorite argument: Zombies aren't realistic anyway, so why not magic?
-
You have probably clicked the right mouse button with no weapon selected. So you are "aiming down sights" according to the engine with a flare or something!
-
The starting weapon is your brain. Use it!
-
That's why you should think beforehand and get medical supplies before you need them. I totally agree about loot and ammo amount being decreased. Especially food and drinks! It's not hard if you play smart, but if you waste all your time, ammo and food fragging in Cherno you will cry blood.
-
I share it like hell!
-
I don't think they should be removed. They should be more rare and really sought after. And about the sniper rifles; all it would take for me is to change them from military grade sniper rifles to scoped hunting rifles and such. For me it's not about how powerful they are, it's just about the immersion and how it fits in the world. :) Combine this with the idea of less ammo scattered around and the gameplay sill become really interesting.

How is lowering the quality of guns and making them harder to find "catering to carebears"? Of all things it makes the game more challenging and harder for "carebears". And stop using that term. It takes me ONE TO TWO HOURS to find decent gear (ALICE, DMR, most of the tools and so on) and that is no fun. What is now middle tier gear should be OMG-gear. And what is now good gear should be overkillgear.
-
Aaaaaaw, come on man! How am I ever going to find good gear with abusers like you doing stuff like this! I... wait, I need to wipe off some drool. My brain hurts.
-
Great idea! And once you kill a player with a bounty you get 100 (110 if you took the target out with a headshot) Z-Points or something that you can trade for ammo or new weapons at the Cherno Survivor Gunshop (you can't enter with low humanity)!

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
terrvik replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes please! This is the game I want to play! I want a game where all I feel is despair, fear and lack of hope. I want those glimpses of light to feel a hundred times more rewarding and the darkness feel a thousand times more dangerous, where the best players are the smart ones who thinks ahead and choose when to take a risk and when to run. Just the idea that gunshots should attract Zed from a greater distance would solve so many problems! You take one shot, and you know you must move your position or you will be swarmed. If you move others can spot your movement but if you stay put other players will see which direction the infected are being attracted. So much dynamic in one game mechanic! I have some minor suggestions on how to improve some of the ideas but overall, I love it. -
I guess the problem most people have with the idea is that the "zombies" in this game aren't the traditional undead ones but only living people infected with some kind of awesome disease. While I am all for infected with some loot on them the idea that the dead players will rise just wouldn't work in the in-world logic. Maybe if some day an actual infection mechanic is added where the player catches the Eat ALL the humans!-virus and eventually turns this could be something.

In all seriousness the guy used to post a couple of times a day here, and now there haven't been anything since... at least four days? Either he is taking a well earned rest or something isn't right. :S Don't really care about the update delay, just hoping the man is ok.
