Not if the process takes time. Right now a lot of the activities are instant (like cooking and gutting animals) which should be changed. If you have to set up different objects and wait for the "process" to finish it could be a very rewarding system for careful and planning players. Set up, dick around, go back and collect.

I don't really see a point in a feature like this since the whole concept is about a bunch of survivors interacting in a world gone to hell. If some zeds are player controlled it will become more like a pure multiplayer game which I don't think this is supposed to be. Idea is good, just not fitting for this project (in my opinion obviously). :)

What does 3p:off/on and CH:off/on in server names mean?
terrvik replied to WTF Alien's topic in New Player Discussion
3P is Third Person View and CH is crosshairs. Play with them off for max immersion! You are correct about the GMT-stuff, but the descriptions happens to be inaccurate sometimes. -
The Hive - We Want Support, Not Permission
terrvik replied to guidez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't worry people, only about 25% of these "threats" actually has consequences. -
Hopefully people will stop thinking about DayZ as a military simulator with zombies once it goes standalone. Give me less ammo, more ways to die (from the environment) and crappier weapons and it'll get scary (again... I was terrified when I first played this game six months ago).

I have tried to formulate an answer to this thread multiple times now and I must sadly confess (pun semi-intended) that I give up. There are so many things I fail to find the words to express my opinion about. :) I'll try once more: It's a dumb idea.

If a guy calls claiming to be from Microsoft, hang up okay?

That is a good thing. :)

Wait, what? So if a country builds a wall to not let foreigners in it's not racist because what it does is to keep the people INSIDE the country? Maybe you should have a wall around your home,,,

1.7.3 PATCH DEBUG MONITOR TAKEN OUT-SOLUTION
terrvik replied to Gopher (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is a very subtle easy to miss visual hint indicating a low blood value. Hint: Colors, or a lack of it. People should try to get away from the MMO mindset and start playing this for the experience (no not the XP kind of experience). It is not about balance or fairness, it is about your heart beating and adrenaline rushing because you think that goat was a hostile player. -
This is, to me, very interesting because I very rarely get killed on sight. Of course it happens, but mostly I make friends with random people. Must be attitudes being different on different servers. :)

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
terrvik replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1. Remove "Hide Body" 2. Add the ability to "Drag body" 3. Add the ability to "Burn Body" (with matches and maybe fuel) 4. A burning body will spread fire to other nearby dead bodies 5. Dead bodies and dead infected attracts more infected (respawn) So to clean up a town from infected and establish a temporary safe (hahahahahahaha) area you will have to drag all dead bodies in a neat pile and make yourself a nice fire. EDIT: One more thing: putting out a fire (a huge dead body one or a small fireplace) should create a tower of smoke for some minutes, visible from far away. -
Since there is so much focus on "if you are good on it in real life, you are good on it in DayZ" I have a suggestion on how to expand on that. If the names and descriptions were removed in the inventory you would either have to learn what weapon is what through experience playing the game or real life knowledge of weaponry. When you pick something up it should only say "Pick up Rifle" or "Pick up Handgun" but nothing else. The only available descriptions should be those necessary because of engine limitations (like telling you about a mounted flashlight you can't see because of graphic issues or whatever :) ) Same thing with ammo. Maybe it could describe what caliber it is but not tell you what gun use it. People who knows guns will have an advantage over people like me who have no clue about anything. As it should be. :)
-
I also thought about this and it would be an awesome addition! Maybe they should only leave trees when a gun is fired though and only on rare occasions when you run by? It would make it riskier to fire a gun since it would not only give away your presence but also your location if someone nearby is aware. Beans.

Full Character Progression - Compilation Thread
terrvik replied to L0G!N (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I thought about a system where a character looked different depending on how much time it has been played. Since all characters will be even more connected to a database tracking different stuff this should not be too hard. What I mean is that if you have been playing DayZ for a long time your character will spawn with dirtier clothes, beards and other things to make your character look experienced. A new player will start with clean clothes. This would remain even between deaths, since you as a player still keep your knowledge of the game. So if I see two guys running along looking very clean I would know that they are probably new, scared and confused and won't know very much about the world. When I apporach with my respectable beard and dirty clothes they know I have experience from playing the game longer and it would (maybe) be more natural for me to help new guys out or reason that they are no threat to me (or maybe they are because they are scared and will attack everything :) ). Should not be that easy to abuse since it would sync with the database. Thoughts? -
I think there should be bibles in the game though along with other random "useless" items like money just to make a point on how worthless they would be in a scenario like this. Or maybe some players will find them valuable and try to cling on the former importance of the random items. Interesting.

True. Why are you quoting me though?

There was no hacker problem before. Then the community got bigger. 1+1 equals 2.

If you choose to have side chat (if you have found a working radio) on it should come with a drawback: a radio noise everytime someone writes that attracts infected and gives away your position. Like a radio. Turn it off for safety.

You buy the game in an unfinished state at a lower price and it updates and gets more "finished" over time. At one point it will be finished and sold for a higher price. Just like Minecraft!

Wall at the border to keep the action inside the map
terrvik replied to MasterBlaster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would like if the "wall" is natural obstacles and not man made. Like the ocean to the south and east, a mountain range to the north and rivers and stuff to the west. In the river you'll get caught in the stream and die, the mountains are to steep to climb and the road tunnels are all caved in and so on. Just to give the illusion and hope to the players that there is a way to get "outside" the map. :) -
Still think this is a good game?
terrvik replied to SilverTrimm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your parents can surely give you some money to spend on some other game if this doesn't suit your needs. -
I agree. That would be really unfair. Good thing we haven't payed once yet.

He mentioned it in a couple of interviews, but he has always been careful with saying stuff without any actual content backing it up. So I always figured he meant that by September he would have some kind of "official" statement about the standalone.
