There is one on Norway 13 right now. Just got a full set of gear magically.
-
That's kinda cool though, just a place a smart person would avoid. :) Is it worth wasting 25 minutes to go around it or just take the risk going through? I wish there was some way to make hiking through woods slower, like how vegetation slows you down in real life. It would probably kill a cpu with a realistically detailed forest but just some kind of speed decrease might simulate the results. Like people who have been hiking or learnt to read maps would now: sometimes it's faster to take the longer route!

I think that's exactly why there should be infected kids! :) It would make you think twice. Emotions are good. Anyway, why bother worrying about controversy? Isn't the game going to be 18+ anyway? And the sells aren't the most important thing?
-
Trust me, I am not "elite". I just like a challenge and is a big fan of "games as art". Art is emotions, DayZ has great potential of generating emotions. If it turns into a deathmatch that potential is ruined and the whole point of the experiment is gone, and all we are left with is a multiplayer PvP-game with varying difficulty with some zombies to annoy you. I never saw it as a multiplayer competetive game and all server side options are turning the game into just that. I'm really not whining or anything, and yes you are right: obviously how other play does not affect me. I'm just stating my opinion.
-
More importantly; what does that sign say?
-
I don't just mean best as in best player. The guy works with (not for as far as I know) BIS giving advice and such just because he has such familiarity with the franchise. And I totally agree, DayZ not Arma, I just wanted to bring another viewpoint on the subject matter. My opinion is still that cross hairs should be removed though. By the way, am I the only one that hopes that the UI will change color? That green is ridico... ridicio... ridiculous... very ugly.

I guess it's just proof that a good idea or good general design beats flawed mechanics. :) Knowing that it can only be improved in the future also helps.

Player Skill. (This is not a leveling thread).

The mini games would not have to be super advanced, just some basic knowledge of the general field required. Like some basic knowhow about electricity to fix a battery (like a small minigame where you connect wires to the negative or positive pole... I know absolutely nothing about electricity, but you get the point) or just having the sense to apply disinfection on a wound before bandages. I also mentioned this before but all descriptions and names on equipment should be removed. You should learn for yourself what type of ammo goes in what gun and so on, -
I did read and I thought I understood. You might also notice my smiley there so I was not being rude or sarcastic so there is no need to tell me, or anyone else, to fuck off. Why bother with teams and mechanics to support it in a zombie mod for a different game where those mechanics already exists? EDIT: And for the record I think server options are currently ruining the game. The consistency was what made the game appealing to me. Private servers with their own rules and plenty starting gear, easy settings and deathmatch options are kind of stupid really...

Agree, I always liked DayZ more because of what it aimed to be and had potential for rather than what it was at the moment. This was back in April when it was rather new for everyone so no wikis existed and you had to figure everything out by yourself or get help by a friendly player (were a lot more of those as well). I think the meta gaming has somewhat ruined the experience, more so than "pandering to the masses", but the point in the first post is very valid and DayZ should definitely be the game that says fuck you to all preconceptions we have of what a game should be and how it should work. I hope that when it is released the official forums will be flooded by complaints about difficulty or rages over how unfair it is because then it has accomplished what it aimed for. :)

Why not just play Arma? DayZ isn't about teams fighting or squads. :)
-
I would like to see this in Dayz standalone!

I don't know what a Namalsk bloodsucker is but I am imagining something between The Host thing from X-Files and something from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Is that correct? -
Nah, I don't agree with him either but he IS the best Arma (probably would be the best DayZ as well if he played) player out there so what he thinks about the subject is at least worth bringing up. :)

What about two "iron sights"? One right click to just hold the gun straight out in front of you, giving a decent idea where the aim is, and a double right click for the standard iron sight aiming. Awkward maybe. Experiments are fun. For science and so on. And crosshairs for grenade throwing and such is pointless. Try to throw a rock in real life, it's really hard to hit a target. :P EDIT: Would also double as some kind of combat mode. Huhm.

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
terrvik replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The mod is basically a big test. If they are implementing basic structure at the moment there isn't much to test anyway. A focused test group where every feedback and/or input gets attention is probably far more effective than 200 people saying the same thing over and over on a forum. -

No obviously it's not, that's where the "imagine" part came in. :) And I didn't really mean parkour anyway, just that it would be fun to climb to the top of a building and crashing down on a building next to it as a last resort escape! -
Why does it matter? Would be interesting to have some mechanics in the game that players will use when desperation kicks in. Like shooting a bird and realizing it exploded and no food is left. :)

I like how vaulting works in BF3, something like that could be useful (if you "jump" while running into an obstacle you quickly vault it). Realistic jumping mechanics, as in you jump really low and could only jump far if you have some momentum, could be fun and more important pretty useful. Imagine gearing up with little or no gear to keep your weight down and mobility/speed up and then climbing the drainage pipes and moving through towns via the rooftops. Scavenging made awesome! -
DayZ was what made me come back to PC gaming after several years of absence and with that return I was reminded why I left in the first place: PC Gamers are the worst kind of gamers I have ever encountered. Jesus christ. Everyone keeps bashing consoles but no one can really say why. A lot of buttons on a keyboard does not make a game better and good design with fewer controls does not make a game dumbed down. Last years smartest game was on a console. Go figure. On the topic of cross hairs again... I have noticed that the last few months have been more and more focused on PvP and the competitive aspects of DayZ. Maybe that's why I'm bored of it. When I started it was the emotional experiences and tension that attracted me, not the gunfights and killcounts. We don't need cross hairs really, because shooting should not be what this game should be about. We do not need "good" controls or complete awareness because balance and fair play should not be the focus. The interesting things are our expectations of a game and how that is turned upside down. Or at least, that was what made me like DayZ when I first played it. So yeah a cross hair will give more control to the gun play but I hope the emotional ride will be in focus with the violence more as a backdrop.

Like the cartoons of old other character would morph into steaks and waterbottles.

Dslyecxi argues well for crosshairs on his personal blog, could be worth a read. He makes some good points. http://blog.dslyecxi...-guys-play-with EDIT: If you are lazy, he basically says "All in all, I find the notion that crosshairs are “unrealistic” to be pedantic and misinformed. Until ArmA or other games can accurately represent what is involved with using firearms in reality, abstractions will be needed to get the end result to be correct. This is just one of many such abstractions that exist currently. " Personally I am all for removing them. Not for realism or anything like that, but just for the fact that it would make the firefights more awkward and possibly simulate (at least my own) incompetence with firearms.

There have been more awesome games on console since the beginning of gaming than PC so I don't really understand this viewpoint. Just saying. :)

Don't add anything new in, just concentrate on fixing problems with the game!

For some reason I believe this is included in the whole "changing the architecture of the game from the bottom up" thing. :) -

Maybe more people should so we could get some actual maturity in gaming content wise. Violence and boobs is not mature content. -
