E3 Expo - June 2013 - Interviews and Gameplay

rocket on the hit detection and infected animations: "Very Important Matt forgot to explain the situation with zombie attacks: Basically, we made a new system for the zombie animation attacks, but there is no event handler for that yet because it just went in this week. We need the event handler to synchronize the animation with its attack effects. Currently, as a placeholder, it simply plays the effect half a second after the animation is started. The event handler is scheduled to be finished any day now, which will allow us to sequence the attack. It's a very trivial change but will obviously instantly improve the output. It has nothing to do with hit detection, animations, or anything. It's how it is designed a placeholder. Because we are rewriting many parts of the engine, problems like this (i.e. known bugs waiting for replacement of placeholder elements) are very common through the development as we wait for the sequence of development to occur. tl;dr The zombie attacks aren't sequenced for the animations because its a new system thats 50% coded and waiting for event handlers to allow synchronization, which is trivial to implement once made." There are allot of answers (or explanations) if you go to rockets reddit overview: http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns While I do agree that the footage shown does not look very good I still think it is cool that they have no designated E3-demo for showcasing but simply brought the latest build with all bugs present just to show it. How's that for transparency rhinowho? -

I very much hope they totally removes "map" hotkey so you must access a map through the inventory or the quickbar as it would make it possible to have different kinds of art for maps; like everything from postcards local maps of towns or a hunting map showing good spots for fishing. Variation is always good! EDIT: Also: http://www.pcworld.c...-vanguards.html Some nice screens in this one. -

Where is this interview being held? Is there a stream or will it simply be posted on reddit when finished?

Arma 3 is basically "on sale" all the way up until release. :)

https://twitter.com/...853637476433920 This will be interesting. EDIT: "DayZ streaming radio stations need to be established, i.e. website. Will need to provide sample radio content. "in character" stations only" This will be even more interesting. Will the internet handle this well? :) EDIT: Two things I am really curious about: How will this handle copyright? Is a "seal of approval" required to broadcast which can be revoked should the radio station misbehave? Who moderates this? Also: will the broadcaster need to be in game to go live? That would be kind of interesting if the broadcaster had to role play their character while on air, and there being a chance to hear him/her be murdered live. -

Does anyone know if rocket has talked about actual environmental dangers lately, more than diseases and such? I'm talking about stuff like hiding in a bush only to discover it is poison ivy, snakebites (snakes are in Arma 3 so why the hell not :) ) or discovering that the leeches that stuck to you after that swim in the swamp makes you look like a leopard? -
A challenge to any DayZ commentators.

It works best if you use headphones that shuts out the outside sounds, you shouldnt be able to hear yourself at all. -

Is it basically a delay? I used to do this to my friends back when I was recording a lot in the studio; just give them headphones blocking all sound and feed the signal back to them with 10-20ms delay. It is impossible to talk. -

Would also be fun that in order to be able to put something on the quickbar the item require a way to attach or be small enough to fit in your pockets. For example a large pair of binoculars must be stored in the backpack and dug up every time unless you attach some string and hang it around your neck, then it becomes available for the quickbar. Or you could just find a pair of those small binocs that fits in your pockets. What is it you are skeptical about? That it looks messy or that it will be to easy to get out stuff "too quick"? -

According to what Dean has posted the quickbar can be used to access anything anywhere in your inventory, it just takes different amount of time depending on where you store it (short time to reach something in your pockets, longer to dig it out your backpack). -
