  1. I still don't quite agree with the argument that I don't watch movies or read books to show off, so why must a game necessarily be different? Right now games are only good for that obviously, but that does not mean it has to stay that way. I believe DayZ is mainly a story driven experience (without a story) more so than a competitive one. Good discussion though, keep it going. :)
  2. Well, films are fiction and follow common archetypes to make it clear to the audience who is bad and who is good. :) Is this necessary in DayZ? And magically changing appearance because your points dropped below a certain level isn't really the same. I'm not arguing that there should not be bandits, survivors, heroes, idiots, murderers, robbers, profiteers or whatever. Just that the current system is boring. Oh, and by the way: "It's just a game" is not an argument! The whole point of a medium is to evolve and change. :) I usually play and masturbate at the same time. I don't agree with you at all, but that's fine. :) There are needs for "gamey" features but only where there is no way for the game to emulate the real world; as in text appearing telling the player that he/she feels thirsty. A "scoring" system rewarding a player negative or positive points regarding actions taken and then altering appearances accordingly is just not a very appealing idea for me. Do you also feel there is a need for a way to "win" the game? Or should pressing tab bring up a scoreboard? What it comes down to for me is that the "Bandit/Hero" system, in it's current form, only establishes teams or factions in a game where every player should have the freedom to play however he pleases.
  3. Let's just drop the "Hero/Bandit" thing entirely. It's a gamey system based on the players need for clear teams in a game that really doesn't belong in DayZ. :)
  4. I'm with the survival sim crowd, so I hope rocket keeps his promise of making the game very harsh and getting rid of most of the conveniences the average gamer wants and is used to. I'm also very much with the "games are art" crowd and I really think SA could prove how much emotions a simple concept can generate. Totally agree that there are many other games out there that does the deathmatch thing (and does it better) already so SA really should move away from that.
  5. I very much disagree. :) I hope the SA sticks to one crowd and make no compromises. Whatever the target crowd might be in the end! EDIT: But I very much agree on the point that it seems people want two different games though.
  6. It's a bit different since DayZ has allot more pre built hype and so will have more players smashing the servers from day one. MC grew quite slowly.

  8. To be fair, I remember the first weeks when seeing another player was a moment of "Oh, look, another survivor! Let's go over there and see if we can help him!" rather than "Oh, shit, well I missed the coast anyway...". :) I honestly believe that streamers are a part of the problem though. Their goal is to make exciting content and playing DayZ as a pure survival sim, while very exciting to play, isn't very exciting to watch. So of course new players watching will try to mimic that kind of playstyle. I very much hope that the SA won't cater to streamers as much as has been suggested (can't be bothered to dig up actual quotes, but I remember there being some). Stuff like Survivor GameZ is awesome but it unfortunately turns DayZ into just another competitive online shooter focusing on points. EDIT: clarified a bit
  9. Totally agree. I don't want devblogs showing off features and cool new stuff; it's more then enough with a small update about the overall status of the project and maybe short explanations of what's being worked on. The rest I want to discover for myself. :)
  10. Also some kind of momentum system. After the first jump allot of momentum would be lost until you build some up with more running. But running deplete stamina as well, as does jumping to begin with.
  11. Of course you can. I have been playing on a macbook since the start. EDIT: Sadly you must install windows to do it.
  12. When is the next devblog?
  13. You misspelt Dslyecxi. Oh, the irony! Double irony even! :) (It looks amazing...)

    Where are all the devblogs?

Dean has previously stated that twitter is great because he can quickly post stuff while compiling data and such. Same with reddit. Right now he is semi active on both twitter and reddit, almost as if he is... rendering something and posting while waiting for it to complete? B)

    Where are all the devblogs?

    Ah, devblog threads. Never change!
  22. You are allowed to think however you wish, but I kind of had enough after seeing ten plus posts earlier today about how every reddit user should be shot and how the entirety of reddit is a cancer on the internet. I really thought we should stay above that kind of behaviour. If you can't figure out the reason why rocket posts over on reddit, because it's very very easy to figure that one out (even before rocket himself explained why), well then that's your problem. Think about it for a while. Figure it out. It's simple.
