First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
terrvik replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why bother with a system that has no place in the game from the beginning just to please a part of the playerbase? Just as I won't bother buying if third person stays (in it's current form) people shouldn't buy if the decision is made to go first person only and they don't like it. It really is as simple as that. Third person in stuff like the Elder Scrolls games is a gimmick that's okay because they are single player games and the only one you ruin it for while cheating is yourself. In a multiplayer survival game where one shot can kill you? Nah, not so much. -

The environment and sky looks absolutely amazing. The artists really did a good job! And even with how basic this looks at the moment it really shows how deep and detalied the mechanics will eventually be. I've missed being really excited about the standalone. Welcome back sweet feeling.- 321 replies

No side chat, no crosshairs, no third person, no death messages, you have to study a body to get a kill count, always full servers. It's the only version of DayZ that's even close to being, well, DayZ! :)

I would like to point out as well that if third person will be part of DayZ and no first person only servers will be available at all I won't bother buying it since it ruins what, in my opinion, DayZ has the potential to be. It's not about "realism" or how our vision works in real life, it's about storytelling, athmosphere, immersion and gameplay. Third person removes me from the game to much that I might just as well be playing another game entirely. The argument about not forcing your way to play onto others goes both ways. I still can't see (maybe I missed it while reading this thread, there is alot to read :) ) a good point to as to why many players would jump ship if third person is removed, only alot of posts about how it would happen for some reason. -

Awesome! :) That's kind of my point though; that there should be other methods to solve the issue rather than allowing third person to remain since the cons by far outweighs the pro's. Why not just be able to "lean" inside or on a vehicle with the Q and E keys? Combine this with freelooking with Alt and we will be very able to see around us. Also as you said the camera sure could use some improvement but I imagine that is a part of the whole vehicle overhaul. Improve the system instead of letting us have it the easy way, that's what I want! -

He wrote this: http://dslyecxi.com/shacktacs-usage-of-crosshairs/ I agree with you though, there should be no crosshairs in DayZ. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
terrvik replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wouldn't it be more fair to say: if you don't like first person, don't play DayZ? There is literally no valid argument left to support or defend third person other than "I want to see how much of a badass I look like" which isn't really a good argument at all. My favorite is how everyone keeps saying "if you remove third person then the majority will stop playing" but I still can't seem to find a singe point as to why that would be so I still will have to assume that it is just because people are to scared to actually play a horror game with some tension. The headache or nausea issue is something that should be fixed with FOV sliders and such and nothing that validates third person. If you think there are some valid arguments to support third person please give them to me because I am seriously at a loss. :) -

Won't there be character model in the inventory screen in the SA where we can look at our gear? -

I'm using a phone so I'll be short. When I started with DayZ there were ONLY first person servers. At least the ones near me. I was very surprised to find that this was an issue. Of course people want 3rd, its easier and less scary. DayZ is a competetive game now so you want every advantage EDIT: aw, fuckit, that didnt make a least bit of sense. I'll jump into this discussion when Im back on a PC. Have fun y'all! :) -

Even if third person remains it should always be off in vehicles. There is NO argument supporting why it should be possible or has a place whilst driving or flying. Anyways, third person is easy mode. Get rid of it! :) -

I'm running around by myself on the server as a zombie. Apparently humanity goes up if you attack other zombies. EDIT: Got killed while alt+tabbed. Guess the other zombies tired of my treachery.

I am disappoint that we never got an update on the apartment. Is it clean? What was under the bed? How long did it take? -
Gais, Gais, Gais! SA Idea - Children Zeds?
terrvik replied to lord3n's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Should be noted though that a game gives the player a choice. You can murder prostitutes in GTA but the game is not about that. That's all up to the player. I believe there's a big difference there. A game where the goal is to murder children for points: not okay. A game where it is possible to kill children but the game does not force you nor is it the goal: that's okay! -
Gais, Gais, Gais! SA Idea - Children Zeds?
terrvik replied to lord3n's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, fuck'em. :) I don't see a problem with a shit storm really, especially with a small game like this. And both GTA and CoD did fine, despite controversy. It's all a matter of taste and context and adding children as victims in a widespread infection scenario makes sense. If it was just kids being there to be killed that would be offensive, but that isn't the case here. Why should WE think of the consequences? We get a better game as a result of it. We should encourage developers to push boundaries! I still fail to see why this is such a no-no when both TV and film has been mature enough to treat children as actual humans for a long time. Or scratch that; I can see WHY it is a problem right now but I fail to see why we as consumers accept that. It's probably because there still is the misconceptions that a game has to be fun. We should just change the name of the medium from video games to... I don't know... interactive storyteliing? :) Sorry for going off topic, I just love these kind of discussions. -

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1h3f7e/state_of_decay_banned_because_of_drugs_what_if/caqgx8e?context=3 I honestly have no idea how relevant that is though. But if they are infected children? As in not really children? Dead Space babies anyone? :) I read or heard someone say recently that it is kind of weird that we have all these WW2 games but never have set our foot in a concentration camp to see the horrors. "Games" as a medium need to grow up in this regard. Not really the same thing but there are some weird "rules" about what is allowed in a game and what is not. Movies have killed off kids for a long time. The Walking Dead series STARTS with a young girl getting shot in the face by a police man. So what if it gets an 18 rating or whatever... sales are not an issue according to rocket. :P If it is technically possible (probably needs a separate skeleton and such for children) I very much hope children will be included in the game in the future. -

Would this really be an issue in a game where we will be able to put a gun to our own head though? :) EDIT: I'm all for it since it would be really creepy and disturbing, as a horror game should be! -

Makes you wonder where Matt is if he has to clean it himself. -
I mostly play Zero nowadays since it's the only first person and side chat off servers I can find that's constantly full. Actually it brings me back to the early days since I often have to spam refresh to even get on.
