  1. Depends on how one defines success!
  2. It was a joke suggestion to point out how flawed TPV is. If it is so fair when everyone's using it then the infected should be able to use it as well. Problem is that there would be lots and lots of (delicious) tears since they (the infected) would be able to see you over walls and around corners and therefor be extremely hard (in the unfair kind of way) to hide from. But then again so can you, so it's fair. Or is it? Well THAT'S just cheating. :) Not knowing or knowing where every part of a huge vehicle is part of the skill of driving one! EDIT: By the way, it's interesting to see how many videos labeled "Tried a first person server for the first time, it's awesome!" or somesuch has cropped up over att reddit since Dys... dsly... dlsex... the guy posted the original video. :) At least a few more people has seen the light (from a first person perspective none the less!)!
  3. Not so related to the SA but two different interesting upcoming... things? :) GDC China 2013 adds DayZ, Ubisoft, Crytek production talks http://www.gdcchina.com/news/2013/08/gdc_china_2013_adds_dayz_ubiso.html The Benefits of Players Writing Thier Own Stories In Games (DayZ and KSP) http://guidebook.com/guide/11947/event/5193936/
  4. Here are some exploits that I currently know of in the mod. Combat logging. Loot farming. Hiding tents inside solid objects. Are these fair to use since everyone can use them? Or should they be fixed? In my opinion they break the game, and I don't use them. Everyone being able to use TPV might be "fair" overall on a server but as soon as there is some kind of confrontation it turns into one unfair mess of a gameplay mechanic that must be fixed. You missed a shot and the guy hid behind a rock? Well, have a mate suppress it and advance? No, can't be done since he is hiding behind the rock but can still see your every move thanks to his magic friend Mr Camera. This isn't fair, fun, challenging or exciting. It's broken. EDIT: I want to say again: I don't neccessarily want TPV gone, I want it fixed.' EDIT2: And some good fixes has been suggested in the thread so far!
  5. Out of curiosity, what is the default setting for TPV when setting up a new server?
  6. Here's the thing. More then a year ago before DayZ totally exploded rocket fed on delicious tears from frustrated gamers not used to the brutal an unforgiving experience his anti-game offered. This made me interested and literally drew me back to PC gaming. Now, a year later, every gaming magazine have their eyes set on the SA and thousands upon thousands are following the progress. My worries are that this has made rocket to start compromising his original vision and second guess what DayZ should be, even if not intentionally. FPV or TPV is related to this. Earlier rocket would probably just do it his way and post silly memes when anyone complained but now, maybe, he feels the need to please more people. There is alot of pressure for this game to be good and that means that mainstream gamers has to like the design desicions, even if they water down the experience. I just hope rocket will make the game his way and how HE wants it to be, no matter how the end result might be. He has done so far, and I have liked every decision he has made so far. In short: I want the sweet delicious tears back. Those were interesting times. Make us cry rocket.
  7. Ken: As I said; I'm unable to really discuss this at length right now because I suffer from severe phone handicap. I WILL however get back with some replies as soon as I'm able, mmmkay? :) EDIT: Just gonna say this while it's a hot topic. I do not feel like I am underpowered on a TPV server, or that it's too hard for me. I feel too safe. It's boring. I have far too much awareness. Same with side chat. People asking who shot where and announcing where they are. Convenient, sure, but boring.
  8. It's not just about other players. You can see infected before they can possibly see you. You can scan a compound before actually entering it even when not in a position to do so. Don't even get me started on vehicles. Landing in a tight clearing should be difficult. Backing a truck in a tight spot should take some skill, maybe even someone outside the truck to guide you. It's not just about other players. EDIT: would love to discuss in more detail but Im on the phone and the touchpad is murdering my patience. Please forgive me for being short and maybe incoherent. :)
  9. You are welcome to choose. Choice is good.
  10. It should be: Normal - FPV only Easy - A modified TPV Everything else off in both cases. Hardcore should be normal in DayZ-land. :)
  11. Yes please. Also put the camera closer, far away enough to se most of the character but close enough to minimize how much you can see around you and especially corners. Then severely restrict how much you can tilt the camera to make it harder to get close to a wall or obstacle and see what's on the other side. What about if you only can attack (gun or melee) when in first? This would restrict TPV to be used when travelling. EDIT: Oh, and by the way! Question time! What is everyones opinion on how status effects should be handled? Currently the shake can be ignored by going into third. It would be nice to see some other stuff in the future, like motorcycle helmets limiting the FOV but this is difficult to accomplish with two different perspectives in mind.
  12. I think I would much more prefer a stance indicator (like in Arma3) that shows where you are feeling pain as well as how your body is positioned. Like a red dot on your leg if you get shot there. I can't see my back very well in real life so I wouldn't know if there are a big ol' pool of blood staining the back of my shirt until I find a mirror (something I really hope is added, both on vehicles and in general...) or someone tells me. :) Third person in single player games is a different matter entirely since you need to see all those pretty animations. In a multiplayer game they are meant for others to see. Of course FPV must be improved. People feeling sick due to low FOV or low FPS isn't acceptable, but as I understand this is being worked on.
  13. Yawn for yourself, I find this discussion very interesting! :)
  14. Games doesn't need to be fun. Are horror games or movies "fun"? :)
  15. Genuine question: all you guys feeling sick in FPV; is this a problem specific to Arma/DayZ or every FPS out there? If it is just Arma this needs to be fixed either way. I know I myself can feel ill on low framerates, so I understand this can be a problem. Especially on framelocked console games, like TLOU which made me dizzy a few times.
  16. I thought the poll was quite neutrally (is that even a word?) worded, or am I missing something? Maybe my opinion is moot since I'm in the FP camp. :) But seriously, what did I miss? It's 6AM and I'm out of coffee...
  17. I just want to point out that while I am one of the biggest supporters of first person only I have zero interest in pvp. I can count the number of players I have killed with my ten fingers and I have played since April 2012. :) It's not just about that, it's about how I feel too safe with TPV on, because I am too aware of what's behind walls or I can observe someone stalking me while hidden behind a rock. It simply removes all tension and excitement for me! That's great to hear (read?)! I, uh, rather not. :)
  18. Either that or improve the first person view. FOV, mirrors on vehicles, ability to lean inside vehicles and so on. Either way I think the TPV must be improved and have separate servers for the SA anyhow. Team Rocket seem to be on all of this, so actually everything is fine. :)
  19. Because I enjoy discussing game design in general. :)
  20. Excuse me? This thread is about discussing both perspectives so that's what I'm doing. Point me to a post where I have insulted you or anyone else in favor of TPV. I believe FPV works best for games like DayZ, so I'm arguing that point. Please don't make me look through the thread to dig up all the remarks about being an asshole, nazi or bloodthirsty lichen (I like that one!). Tell me what is so typical about my behaviour.
  21. Also it should be about making choices in a game world designed by the dev team, not about choosing what game mechanics you want to play with. Current choices in the mod include constant daylight, global side chat, crosshairs, death messages, waypoints, third person view and many more (not even including the different mods with NPC's and other stuff). Many of these are remnants from Arma, DayZ being a mod and all. Should we have a myriad of different server combinations to give each player all these options, or just let Team Rocket decide what is best for the game? Choice is good, but there has to be a framework to make those choices within.
  22. I counted ten people in favor of FPV on the first PAGE of this thread alone. :) Maybe 5-6 of us has the patience to try to actually discuss this in a mature manner still. EDIT: Also: The first person servers I play on ARE full 24/7.
