  1. I don't think they should focus on maximising sales, no. It's not me that has been using that argument. :)
  2. And they will cry delicious sweet tears. It will be beautiful. Besides; one of the main arguments in this thread has been that removing TPV will alienate a major part of the audience and result in less sales. So wouldn't an influx of players from the CoD and BF audience be a good thing then?
  3. When I'm standing next to the wall all I see is concrete. I have no idea what's on the other side. :(
  4. In Amnesia I am playing Daniel. I'm not playing someone else controlling Daniel. Amnesia is a pefect example of how first persion enhances tension and horror in a game, so thanks for bringing that one up. :) DayZ would work completely without TPV as well, so I don't really see what point you are making here (might just be lack of coffee on my side, mind!). I have acknowledged multiple times that there are some serious problems with FPV as it is right now, why is it that you can't do the same with TPV? Both needs fixing; this giant monster of a thread is alone proof that all is not well in perspective land.
  5. This might be a good thing in a single player simulator experience but I don't agree that one should play a zombie survival simulator, that's supposed to be unforgiving and frustrating none the less, to take cinematic shots of how badass you look when flying a helicopter toward the sunrise. The isolation, claustrophobia and tunnel vision in FPV for me is a pretty nice metaphor for the despair and presence of imminent death in the DayZ world. For me it's an artistic and narrative choice, not to improve PvP or show how "elite" I am. Because I am not. :) I want as few "gamey" mechanics in a survival experience like this and TPV is a gamey mechanic. That's really all there is to it for me. Third literally means that you are the third person watching the first person act. I want to play as that first person, not just control him. It's not really appropriate to compare Arma with the SA anymore since one is a military sim, the other will not be. There shouldn't be a reason to geek out over models like one would be in a racing, flying or military sim because you are interested in the subject matter. I'm interested in the zombie apocalypse scenario, and I can see that one well enough through a first person perspective. :)
  6. I don't fear anything. It was a question. Sorry for being curious. I do fear however that there will be more customization of the rules other than just the perspective and that there still will be only one central hive. That would be a problem. So is the third person perspective? The truth is that neither perspective is good enough at the moment and needs fixing.
  7. All You Zombies: Why the Genre Still Holds Our Attention. http://prime.paxsite.com/schedule/panel/all-you-zombies-why-the-genre-still-holds-our-attention Please join Stephen “Stepto” Toulouse along with Chet Faliszek from Valve software (Left 4 Dead) and Dean Hall (Bohemia Interactive) alongside other zombie game industry vets in a discussion around what attracts gamers to zombies, inspiration when making a zombie game, whether the genre needs a break, and where do we go from here. Are there usually streams from PAX? I'd love to see this... EDIT: And you should all vote for DayZ here: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/joystick/homepage.php
  8. So will there be different hives for different settings or will they all connect to the same?
  9. Maybe. I was mostly confounded by the statement that the FPV brigade prefer PvP and deathmatching. I don't see how that would have anything to do with it. Again; I play mostly FPV and I avoid combat at all costs.
  10. How does perspective have anything to do with KoS and deathmatching?

DayZero: What did i just play?

  12. That wasn't aimed at you specifically. :) I take everyone in this thread seriously. EDIT: I will take a break from it though. :P Why would I do that? Team Rocket has stated multiple times that they don't need that many sales to break even. Why maximize profit when you care more about how good the game turns out? There are many other things that could make DayZ even more accessable to the more casual market, but no one disagrees that implementing those things is a bad idea? Even though it probably would make BI more money? Everyone complains about EA when they try to get the most money out of the consumer, then some people complain when a dev team aren't trying to do the same. Whatupwiththat?
  13. Okay, I'm officially done with this thread for today. I'll be back when there is some real discussions to be had.
  14. Do you recieve royalties on any of the sales? :) I don't care if it caters to a large audience or not as long as it is the best game it can be. If alienating part of the audience makes for a better quallity experience then go for it. Obviously this is all in my opinion and from my perspective of what makes a good quality game so hold on to those bash replies.
  15. Ah, a mindless drone following the majority attacking the last few survivors of a dying perspective! :) T'is a joke. Calm.

    What happened to the servers?

Yep. But you start to bleed easier, and take more damage.
  17. Someone suggested in this thread earlier a key that had to be pressed and hold to enter TPV. Would that be a good solution? You press a key, get in TPV to see how you are positioned or what you look like. Then it automatically reverts to FPV after a few seconds. This would be useful for the issues you mention but short enough to actually be misused. Maybe. Yeah, it would be great if we could get just one short statement in here so we know what we are working with. :)
  18. So what you are saying is basically "if you don't like TPV as is, get out", an argument FPV guys have been accused of using alot? I think it's a healthy thing to recognize flaws and discuss how to fix them. I love FPV but I can name dozens of improvements to it.
  19. Depends on how one defines success!
  20. It was a joke suggestion to point out how flawed TPV is. If it is so fair when everyone's using it then the infected should be able to use it as well. Problem is that there would be lots and lots of (delicious) tears since they (the infected) would be able to see you over walls and around corners and therefor be extremely hard (in the unfair kind of way) to hide from. But then again so can you, so it's fair. Or is it? Well THAT'S just cheating. :) Not knowing or knowing where every part of a huge vehicle is part of the skill of driving one! EDIT: By the way, it's interesting to see how many videos labeled "Tried a first person server for the first time, it's awesome!" or somesuch has cropped up over att reddit since Dys... dsly... dlsex... the guy posted the original video. :) At least a few more people has seen the light (from a first person perspective none the less!)!
  21. Not so related to the SA but two different interesting upcoming... things? :) GDC China 2013 adds DayZ, Ubisoft, Crytek production talks http://www.gdcchina.com/news/2013/08/gdc_china_2013_adds_dayz_ubiso.html The Benefits of Players Writing Thier Own Stories In Games (DayZ and KSP) http://guidebook.com/guide/11947/event/5193936/
