Stick to minecraft if you asked that.

Wow, what a game breaking and revolutionary idea. Jeez I wish I knew about this so I could spend 0.5 seconds less running up an uncommon steep hill.

Looks good to go imo

Optimum Numbers for Zombie Survival
FrostDMG replied to yorkie065's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
between 3-5 for me, we used to have a group of 8, and almost being 25% of a server isn't fun or challenging as most people are either with one buddy or lone wolfing. Anything over 5 makes the game an absolute joke. -
As tired as I am of waiting for the game, having "random" people working on it can do more harm than good. Coding isn't a simple affair and often when adding new features you end up breaking old ones. Now imagine let's say 50 extra people are working on separate features, each coding using their own style, now imagine putting all those features together and making the game work. Another issue is of course security of the mod - code may be leaked or security holes (back doors) can be created.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
FrostDMG replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used to play only on 3p servers, but after switching to a 1p only server, I can't go back to 3p. 3p makes the game so much easier, people can camp around corners and look over fences - you are generally much safer when in 3p as you have a wider FOV too. Driving and especially flying is more challenging in 1p as you can't simply scout 360 around your aircraft as you're flying. -
Taking in questions for Rocket and Dayz Standalone at Gamescom

Q: How big is the DayZ team and will it expand after release of Arma 3? thanks -
Donating is ruining this game faster than the hackers
FrostDMG replied to BerkshireHunt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tbh that's not the point. The DDOS shit is caused by server competition and only we the players get screwed cause there are less servers for us to play. -
What Dagwood said, FR21 (I think that was it) was pretty good last time I was on it

FrostDMG replied to BerkshireHunt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I also noticed this and agree that the DDOS backstabbing going on is out of control and pathetic. I myself avoid the donator focused servers like I plague - few reserved slots is fine and fair, it's the loot (and vehicle) buying that truly irritates me. -

First of all, lol, because video doesn't exist, second of all, because of clan tag argument. -

Wow hahhaha epic fail Mr. Admin. You dun goofed. Should've changed yer name after getting banned! Chances of someone having EXACT same name even with the EXACT same capitals are minuscule. -
Play on DayZero it is much more optimised than Vanilla and most of the other mods out there.

The character movement is much more fluid than in Arma 2 - i.e you don't get your weapon stuck on walls and the animations are more refined. The vehicles handle much much better thanks to PhysX and don't explode upon small bump into a lamp post. This also applies to helicopters - they feel more "fluid". Apart flom lighting, the sound is fantastic. Gunshots are heard from a considerable distance which adds to the scale of the map, you hear the wind rustling the tree canopy... Just adds that extra level of immersion. Graphics generally feel more crisp than in Arma 2, but that's to be expected. Gameplay wise, the mod is miles behind DayZ in some aspects, but surprising on par in others. For example eating, bandaging and tent planting are all done using the mouse scroll - you can misclick. Picking up thrown chemlights will also crash your game. However, zombies are no worse than in DayZ. Though the spawning mechanic isn't working 100% imho. Overall, the major advantages Zoombies has over DayZ is the engine. This is why I am disappointed DayZ isn't taking advantage of it. P.S. Attachments. Written from my phone, post is probably riddled with grammatical errors.

Just a quick question to the people who've played the recent SA build, how would you say the stand alone fairs against screenshots below? Screenies were taken from Arma 3's Zoombies mod, everything maxed (FXAA 4x, SSAO maxed) - with quite a respectable framerate of 30 (respectable for Arma that is ;) )
-
No, I have little faith in vehicles in Arma 2 and I doubt PhysX will be implemented into the SA (I could be wrong of course). Arma 2 vehicles handle like shit (civilian ground at least) and it would take a ton of effort to fix them imo.

Anyone interested in making a new DayZ map?
FrostDMG replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Small maps are not good. You need big maps like Chernarus for DayZ to work properly... This is also why I think Podagorsk will have a very short lifespan. For anyone thanking of making a map, go big, bigger than Chernarus and more varied too if you can (yes I know how hard it'd be to make ). -
Yeah, I doubt the vehicles in SA will have PhysX support like in Arma 3... Which means like every vehicle in Arma 2, there will be random explosions, crashes, broken bones and more... Unless the team pulls a miracle
-
I think most of you guys are excepting way too much out of SA on launch... You'll probably be for a not so nice surprise... Oh but don't worry, it'll be released as ALPHA so you can forever use it as an excuse... Anyway, good luck getting close enough to someone to zip tie them.

Activated Music on by Accident....

The music is rather shit and obnoxious. Definitely doesn't add to the atmosphere -
Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62
FrostDMG replied to thisisPyro's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DMR has always been the single most broken gun in DayZ. Even more so than .50 cals. It's always been easy to find, easy to get ammo for, can be used with NVG, almost no recoil, 20 bullet spam machine... Yeah... I hate the .50 cals, but at least they and their ammo was rare (pre duping), the gun was also so loud and distinct that it would attract all the Enfield wielding noobies to look for the sniper and turn hin into a piniata. DMR has to go. Semi auto snipers should be rarer than bolt action and less damaging -
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I think DayZ would benefit hugely from having dynamic shadows in the game - i.e shadows moving as the day passes or shadows cast by car headlights. Currently the lighting system is rather pathetic
