The mods could be called anything under the sun. I have no problem with what your saying. However dayz wouldn't be where it is now if it wasn't for these "horrendous" mods. If dayz players disliked all these mods, they wouldn't be playing them. I'm kind of being the devils advocate in this discussion because the vocal majority on this forum is the minority of the player base. I would completely understand if they made dayz unmoddible and dayz would still be an amazing game. However it's lifespan would be severely reduced. -
The opposite. The same way much of the loyal community of dayz dislike how dayz was ruined by mods arma 2 was ruined the exact same way by dayz. (Not being able to find servers in arma 2 because all of them are dayz vs not being able to find vanilla dayz servers because all are epoch. Core game of arma 2 being masked by unwanted mods like dayz vs Core motives of dayz being masked by those 50000 helicopter servers. ect) Being an arma 2 fan way before dayz was even thought of I have seen how dayz affected the arma 2 game and community, and the (unwanted) mods that dayz has evolved to has affected dayz in the exact same way. I for one enjoy the creativity of dayz, I find it is an amazing game with a great concept. However there is no denying that arma 2 was almost rendered unplayable after dayz picked up. Domination and insurgency severs disappeared and using the server browser was impossible for anyone looking to find something other then dayz. Hop onto arma 3 and ask anyone playing their opinion on dayz and most will say it completely ruined everything arma 2 was. As much as everyone hates the 1000 helicopter servers, that's what keeps the game alive, as much as everyone hates all these new mods that's what keeps the game varied, as much as everyone hates all the new maps that's what keeps the game fresh. Remove all that, and your not left with much. If those weren't in dayz right now I doubt there would even be a quarter of the active players.

oh public hives how I miss you, the ghosting, loot cycling, the hacking. I really hope either they allow private hives or fix the mess that once was called public hives. kind of how dayz ruined arma 2?

I agree 100% that these 500 heli, start with m4a1 self blood bag servers suck. And those I will not miss. What I will miss is the variations of the mods. Like origins, epoch and the amazing maps like tavianna and namalsk. They added options and variations and made the game fresh and new every time. The base dayz got stale and boring and its these mods that added things like custom base building.. If it wasn't for these mods of mods, dayz would be empty. So either way, you wouldn't really have that many populated servers. Also you guys sound slightly selfish when saying you don't want the standalone to be modifiable. No one is preventing you playing the base dayz SA, the problem is many more people like the modded versions. Just look at epoch, there is more epoch servers then base dayz servers. Also you guys sound exactly like the base arma community: complaining how dayz ruined arma while you are complaining how mods ruined dayz. It was the most hacked dayz game because it was a mod, actually if it wasn't modifiable dayz wouldn't exist. Regardless how crappy easy or shity epoch is, you can't hide from the fact: more people are playing it then base dayz -

A server that has on average 30-40 players meaning i don't mind if it dips lower then 20 or so for a few hours or exceeds 40 for a few hours. Players interaction is what dayz is about. -

2 things to do in dayz. 1) Get gear 2) kill people Once you got gear the only thing left to do is......kill people. So if you think that people are going to stop shooting each other on sight to prevent damaging each others flashlights and painkillers then you are delusional. -

The only reason dayz exists is because arma 2 was modifiable. I will be extremely disappointed if SA is not. No one is stopping you from playing regular dayz SA. But it would be great to see epoch or origins being ported over. These mods have drastic improvements to regular dayz and its much more fun and fulfilling then the regular dayz ever was. The more options the better, and the dayz mod right now would have maybe half the players if epoch wasn't there at the moment. I want to say I trust rocket 100%, but I don't. I believe he would make an amazing base dayz, but it will be up to the community to do what it has done in the past and improve what the developers have already given us. -

Epoch has taken over dayz. Reason: It introduces semi persistent life mixed with lose everything on death. Bases allow for safe keeping of some important items, while currency allows something else to work for, while safe zones allow for a lot of player interactions leading me to have made more friends in epoch in 3 days then in 3 months of dayz. What more, due to safe keeping of important items in safes people are much more friendly on the server, I have gotten a lift to stary countless times by random people and kos I feel has been significantly reduced (at least on the server I play on). The custom construction of bases gives you a long term goal to work for, with delicious benefits. You can say epoch is too easy, not hardcore, not the true dayz, and all of that is true. but epoch is fun something that regular dayz isn't for me anymore.. -

People kill other people..................................for loot? Funniest joke of 2013. People don't kill for gear, they kill because there's nothing else to do with their gear. Item degradation won't affect anything one bit. Its foolish to think otherwise. -

Alpha by the looks of it no more then 20$, if it was with arma 3 engine well over 40$ -
I have never seen a game destroy such a huge amount of momentum. Dayz had so much momentum. And what did they do with it? they threw it out the window. All they had to do was fix a few glitches and some hacking and they could have released the alpha. It is inexcusable to still be waiting for an ALPHA release date after a year of waiting. They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. All they had to do was to pump out something before 2013 with a few fixed glitches and less hackers and they would have been set. Instead they decided to wait, which is understanding, however once the it came June and still no info on a alpha release date many have lost interest. By August very few of my friends were still playing or even mentioning it. By October I know no one who is currently interested in dayz any more. The problem on top of that is that the dev blogs are getting less and less impressive. Instead of focusing on negligible aspects like item damage when shot or reloading your magazine in such a profound way they should be focused on pumping out an alpha ASAP. I may still get it, but as times goes by the more the arma 2 engine looks obsolete and therefore people are reluctant to purchase a game that looks like it was released 5 years ago. Its such a sad fate, for a game that had so much potential. It seems the developers didn't prioritize properly, and the outcome is us 2 months away from 2014 with no mention of an alpha release date.

I rarely shoot on sight, ofcourse there are exception. If your a bandit, regardless to why or how or what your intention are i will aim to kill. If you are a survivor or hero I will generally be quite friendly. In a way I don't hate the shoot on sigh mechanics. Its the thrill of knowing that theres a 90% that the man behind the bush is going to try to fill you with lead and thats what makes being a hero fun. To judge the people you encounter. To approach carefully. Do not dumb the game dumb to a greater extent because people are tired of getting shot. And yes if the noob with the lee is able to kill a well armed man in the starting cities then that man doesn't deserve to have his gear in the first place and secondly the reasons he is at spawn is to kill newspawns so I have no remorse Keep it like this, the danger is what makes this game so fun. -

I met a man on namask. We were vorkuta, he helped me out a bit and we were quiet friendly. Then at the market he got a sniper bullet in the leg, broke it instantly. He yelled "help me help me" but I had a friend outside vorkuta and my winchester was no match for the dmr, so I said sorry and escaped trough the back door. He died shortly after. -

That rush, I still get it. When you meet another guy and in a few seconds you must choose what to do. Knowing that in 1 second that gear that you have been working with for days is all gone. That is why I play dayz -
In origins there is more then just death messages, they say who killed you and with what. Yes its not realistic and could be bad, but you get to know who the bandits are and allows you to judge a person depending on how many times their name showed up. For some people its good enough to not kos and I have noticed that I have met more friendlier people and when asked they said it was to maintain a good reputation on the server Obviously its not flawless but I don't mind it.

Server 1 > Low res, low grass low trees no shadows server 2 > med res, medium everything shadow optional server 3 > high res everything at high It is locked for each server so no one has a advantage over anyone -

dayz is fun but it didn't ruin other games for me at all. I don't tend to play games like cod and what not but i enjoy a good single player game every now and again and I still play tacticle shooters like arma 2 3 and red orchestra 2. dayz can get really repetitive so its not like I'm stuck to it like glue -

bandits should not be punished for being bandits, but maybe make subtle reward for being a hero, nothing to important but maybe something as a little incentive to aid people instead of filling them with lead -

Technology is progressing, I'm sure they are able to expand it a little more, but what i would enjoy seeing is the spread of loot, more military camps and such at the moment, its chrno and elek for spawn, berizino or stary for mid and nwa for the last chunk of loot everything in between is pretty point less -

Did I just read a thread that complained about survival??? Dayz is supposed to be a hardass unforgiving relentless brutal mothafucker not some walk in the park like it has been so far. I for one welcome each and every change with open arms, I mean for the past 3 monthes everyone was complaining about pvp now there complaining about survival.
