    Oculus Rift Compatible? VR tech in DayZ!??!

    I read Rocket talking about adding the support, so i don't think it's a hoax since ArmA already supports TrackIR and this will definately add to the immersion. I doubt that it will be of use to most of the players since it will be kind of pricey ( 400 USD ) and it just entered development this year. I hope this push into VR will succeed since Sony didn't accomplish it with their pair...

    Good suggestion and i think it's possible but if you are already cornered you made a wrong move somewhere and with that horde of zeds in front of you what happens is most likely "dinnertime"

    Gamepad?

    It's better if you use a KB and mouse combo otherweise your reactions would be all sluggish and you can't aim that well unless you take time which you haven't. From my experience in playing console to pc ports where you don't have a choice other than to use the pad if you don't want to break your fingers because they have a weird control layout. A buddy tried to use a pad once in ArmA 1 because he didn't want to press forward all the time but his aim was always slighty off and really slow. It's ok for vehicle driving and in gunner positions though, and i would recommencd to use it for any type of driving/flying in game because it feels more natural this way.

    Servers mandatory updated

    I think the problem with so many different versions is that nobody cares about that jungle anymore. Having an even playground for everyone like in the BF series where all servers have the same setting is quite ok imo. I sure hope they have this kind of "force to play way" in the SA to ensure equal chances to everyone.

    Too much ammo. Just 2 cents from a nobody.

    It doesn't matter if you are low on ammo or not, there will still be enough people who would shoot their last round because they want to fight and even continue it with just an axe if not only by their teeth if it was possible. I had tons of ammo and still i conserved every round i had because i might need it later. And i even dumped it somewhere just to have some spares when i needed them... In reality nobody would just shoot and kill for the fun of it ( some psychos still might do it ) or start a fight because the chance of beeing hurt has a psychological effect on a person, even when someone is threatened with a puny .17 handgun they would still think about attacking or not especially when living in an environment like DayZ where you have a low chance of survival when recieving a harmless scratch ( --> possible infection ) due to the lack of even the most basic medical treatment. The bigger the caliber the less ammo should spawn...best thing if they wouldn't be spawned in the general pool but spawned seperately with the chance of it beeing there or not and then placing a certain amount on the map.

    But finding a stash of special NATO ammo in Chernarus would be as possible as having it snow in hell. Would be quite disappointing for the western fanboys to only find special ammo for eastern weapons if you want to keep it geographically realistic...not that there might be a half empty magazine or two from the NATO side though...but not crates.

    Of course it's easy to port and it's crappy on the PC if you don't port it right...well it's not like the game was programmed on a console...so why does it run crappy on PCs? Obvioulsy because they didn't really want to port it, they had to because there was a tiny demand...Some devs are good at porting though, a gamer magazine even embarrased some devs from some bigger companies why a small company could make a gam that runs the same on PC and consoles. Even with the next gen consoles are released, they will be outdated in half a year because the PC development never stops and guess what kind of hardware is running a console... Consoles will always be a step behind the PC no matter what because they will not have an evolution for a long time after release. You just have to take a look at the current consoles and see how they held back the development of games in the last years and how mindless most games are. At least most devs saved us from those games by not porting them.

  11. Well it's not banditry but just "snipertry"... See someone, aim, shoot, keep walking until the next target is sighted / stay put and keep camping. If we had normal hitpoints the threshold would be lower and you wouldn't need a superweapon to disable players.

    I'm just wondering why people always say "military" caliber without knowing what that even means, every bullet can have an effect on anything. And if you lack information then look for it and stop offending people. I didn't even say anything personal on your post and you are the one beeing an ass here.

    And what caliber would you think those three rifles have....?? A gun is accurate as it's user, you can't just just make generalizations that every russian rifle is inaccurate, the guys overseas would say otherwise. Of course the AK is less accurate than the Armalite but it's a good rifle for it's purpose and designated role.

    Military Helmet

    Doesn't matter if it's miltary or not...i don't think the helmet recognizes that or would it tell a bullet you can't pass because you are not an issued military round? Enough power and that thing either passes or gives the wearer a big headache regardless of caliber... They can even stop bullets even if hit in a 90° angle, there is enough proof of that. But the wearer will still feel it.

    Safety Catch - Admit it, we all need it!

    The finger of the "trigger" trick is quite ok but if you had a safety function you wouldn't have to worry about that, one click and you are in firing mode. Even gun trainers tell their trainees to always engage safety when they don't need to shoot. You could also start by removing the lmb from the action menu, i wonder why they actually placed that on the trigger button in a mil sim game.

    There shouldn't be any reward from surviving long enough other than having more stuff because you spent the time playing.

    Then all you have to do is create a new character then stay offline for weeks then you have your super character because the system counts the days regardless if you played or not... And muscles don't equal endless power, even those will grow weak and resting a weapon is the best way to gain accuracy.

    Reduced AKM/AK74 spawn, replace with SKS

    LOL...it's considered the worst weapon in the game by most players...a teammate doesn't consider it a weapon at all... Another mission: "So, what's in the crate?" "No weapons, just AKs..." AKs are like your daily bread in a russian state, it's the most common weapon in areas where you can't get an Armalite or any other western weapon. Considering the time period the game is playing the production of the SKS should have been discontinued because the chinese and russians ( actually more the chinese who ruined their own market with that tactic btw... ) spammed the world with AKs. If the SKS was more common then why does every person in the third world countries who can't even afford a meal able to get himself an AK?
  19. They don't need an increase of damage, the character hitpoints should go down to the natural vanilla values. It has been tripled for whatever reason while they nerfed weapon damage on the other side.

    It only needs weight and handling disadvantages...powerful weapons have a tendency to have these disadvantages. In order to make a person choose either food or firepower they should have to choose either a backpack or a gunbag for their big rifle / or carry the rifle on the back and the personal inventory should be limited as well...you barely fit a can of beans into the magpouches of a carrying vest. Maybe a can of beans and a canteen or can of coke. Stamina should also play a big role when lugging around heavy stuff. Let's see what the devs will do for the SA.

    Well, it's not my problem if people don't use the possibilities that the engine gives considering natural movement in game. Whether or not you want or can spend the extra money, just don' t waste the money on other stuff and people who demonize TrackIR because they can't afford it will love it, too.

    What if we removed the crosshair?

    Those lines still tell away the center of your aim too easy. Anything that sits in teh middle of the screen regardless of it's form will do. If they are removed the only thing "hackers" can do is paint a crosshairs on the screen... If you keep them and you have CH:OFF servers they can still hack it in. I don't trust any anti cheat tool.. If it's not in the engine they won't be able to use it no matter what.

    If you are close enough anything will hurt. You are not superman, there is still flesh and bones behind that armor that has to absorb a lot of left over energy. That's physics in action. While we're at it...there was a bandit who tried to shoot me with a M9 at spitting distance, my first kill in DayZ. Unfortunately for him i had a M14 and a buddy with a FN Fal...

    Third person vs First person view

    Depends on the player, even in 3P there are a lot of players who don't use the benefit of the felt "more fov" when running around ( while i on the other hand also have 3P and can swivel around like hell ), they always run straight lines without turning around in any matter after a couple of meters and you still have the advantage when having to move the camera under a vehicle to see if you will likely hit an obstacle when you f.e. land a heli, you have full control of your vehicle and are still able to react instantly ( most players seem to use KB + mouse when flying a helo judging from their weird movements when i see them maneuvering - always autopilot on and almost flipping the heli ) while i fly manually 99% of the time unless i really have to hover for a longer period which is quite a dangerous task in the game. And i'm not talking about having an accident, but having the bullet magnet on your heli. You don't understand the concept behind TrackIR, it doesn't give you a movement that you can't do in ArmA 2. The only difference is you have your hands free while looking around and have the inkremental lean. And of course you have the immersion in 1P.

    helmets and by the way, make dayz for mac

    A bullet strike to a helmet should be as hard as beeing hit with a bat...not that i know how a bat to the head feels like but we all know what can happen... If you want to wear a helmet that badly would you mind playing vanilla then? A lot of survivors ( even the armed ones ) wouldn't even run around with a helmet just to "stay realistic" even if they found one. Not that it's not practical...you can cook a bean soup with sausages in there in case you are tired of beans only...
