Concerning the KoS mentality and the value of life: unique skills
enforcer1975 replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would be great if your character would have a random background. Then again if someone doesn't like it he just commits suicide until he gets his former space marine. I hope he doesn't add combatant backgrounds. -
You could use a "blablablabalba" kind of sound that plays every time you "talk bubbles" then again...is this a surviving simulator or a chat??? Damnit get a mike folks we live in the 21st century and they only cost as much as a pack of cigarattes and i bet you waste a lot more during a day even if you don't smoke. It would be funny if two guys were hiding from you behind a wall and you knew where they were by seeing the bubbles

Well if you hit the nose properly the person will most likely be incapable of fighting..

I wonder if people in a RL apocalype situation would also have orgasms when they find high tech equipment and take it home no matter if it's any use...you know ...just in case my neighbor takes out his pump i can take out my 30mm gatling...

Yeah...ever heard of a camel spider living in an area that is too cold? But i heard there a lot of two legged camels running around in Chernarus...

"Human Shield" and "Blindfold": Hostage Gameplay Mechanics
enforcer1975 replied to LilBambi's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would say to counter griefing logging out removes the blind fold... A human shield would not really stay still since it's just a game...it's difficult to bring a lot of RL things into a "limited" game. -
What makes you sure he will be unconcious and not you lying on the ground yourself holding your head because you underestimated how painful it can be to yourself? I kind of see that as a last resort weapon when your hands are bound and you are close to his face as a surprise attack because that's the only time it will work but then again you still have your legs which can hurt him quite a bit and not hurting you that badly in exchange.

I didn't mean the day/night cycle with the shadows cast by the vegetation and buildings i meant the light from torches, fire places or vehicles. If you are in the cone you don't cast a shadow like you should, that's what i meant about it beeing "old", everyone will notice that in some places the light even penetrates entire buildings. It never changed since OFP and actually neither did the day and night cycle because it's besically still the same.

Normally you are trained to throw the whole thing away and not cook it off...
-
Well the lighting system is kind of "old" since it's still the OFP system but i wouldn't expect anything in the near future either since BIS is always slow on the innovation side. But then again even if adds atmosphere especially lighting does a lot for it...do we really need it right now?

Same with the vending machine...like i would bother to spend a coin in case it is still working ( yes, it's electric )...it would just force it open and get what i want.

How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
enforcer1975 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rare is just a word that becomes abundant over time... Regarding ammo as currency in Metro...of course they didn't force this system onto the player as the only currency available. People would never barter with other stuff...ever! Stalker had a better barter system in this case. -
Laptop... A friend of mine has only an i5 with 3GHz and a 6xx GTX in his laptop and it isn't enough to run the game smooth enough on average settings, must be the weaker hardware compared to a desktop pc even if it is the same "type" on the sticker.

How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
enforcer1975 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Getting the loot is only a side issue since you actually don't know what your victim has until you loot him. In most cases nobody really has what the other one doesn't already have, it's just kill and look if he has something useful, there isn't really a need for a preventive murder to silence a possible threat which most of the time didn't even notice your presence. Most of the time when we ended up surviving a shootout with other players they even had more equipment than we did, meaning they didn't really have to fight besides getting food and water which they didn't lack, actually they had so much we could easily give another player or two full equipment since they were carrying all that stuff around ( fighting us at that point was really a very stupid idea since they lost more than we did in the process a lot had a secondary rifle, very often also a secondary pistol and even a second set of binocs and nvgs let alone the ammo just to name a few contents, food was quite rare on these players and i wonder why  ... ) -
How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
enforcer1975 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And that's where we should hope that every time you think you have achieved something the game stomps you back into the ground and makes you repeat the process. Nothing should be sure, food has to expire, ammo can go bad, your clothing and equipment wears off. You always have to be forced into constant moving to survive so you can't think of anything but surviving. The current games goes like this: gather everything, go start a fight, maybe die, repeat. It should go: gather everything, gather more because nothing lasts forever, struggle, repeat. It has to mean something if you have to kill someone to get his food or clothes and not just because the player happens to run in front of your weapon. -
Seems like it is your first run of the game? I don't think you can use TF2 as a comparison for ArmA 2. I have a E8400 with a GTX260 and 8GB RAM as a secondary pc and i don't think that rig will run ArmA 2 good enough in medium. It's good enough for ArmA 1 on high though.

A lot of people complaining they don't have money actually throw a lot out of the window for other stuff. Not only that. The next gen consoles are already 2 years behind the current PCs and they are not even released yet. A comparable PC costs about 100$ ( 100€ in my currency ) more but i pretty weak, it might barely be able to run DayZ on low. From there you are not that far away to a decent gaming PC pricewise.

How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
enforcer1975 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To quote most KoS players... I wouldn't make it easier or harder for any side. It's how they play. Too bad with all the server hopping possibilities you can never encounter a player on the same server / in the same area like IRL where most people would think about the consequences of their actions. In a game it's hard to realize or let's say a lot of people don't think that way becaus it's a game. Maybe some servers will "force" encourage realistic behaviour, of course it has to have it's own hive for that to work. -
PC was here longer and will always stay ahead of any console. Without lazy people the console would have been a dead birth.
-
I don't think rocket plans anything like this in the future. Better stick to the mod and use the editor that is provided by the game. They can't do campaigns that good anyway...if you played the ArmA campaigns you know what i mean.

Stockpiling for log-outs.
enforcer1975 replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While loggin out with supplies would be a good idea but not really practical since not everyone can play every day...i had an idea about stockpiles. Maybe it was already suggested but here it is. What if you could let's say build a crate where you put all your stuff in, save it and when you log out about up to 5m away from it it will be removed from the map together with you. If you log back in it will reappear. To give the player a chance sthat when he is unlucky to be killed while loggin in the crate will appear about 1 min later and the player has the ability to "dig it in" just that much that about 5-10cm poke out, enough for it to be seen or not depending on the survivors ( meaning the other players) skill. If this idea is not already known an admin could just open up a new thread with this post, i would appreciate it.
