DayZ REALLY needs to add basebuilding or barracading
billyangstadt replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I understand what most of you are saying, but we're going on 3 years of development to date. I know alpha is for adding features and items, and beta is to iron out bugs. I really hope the content and mechanics we have don't represent 3 years of work. I'm confident that independent game studios, essentially modders, can achieve the same development even at a part time pace. I'm a 3d artist, so I know that there are different departments that work on different aspects of the game. I too get frustrated when I see the "Stop adding items and fix the bugs!" posts, because people can't seem to figure out the above. I can mass produce models, I'll then pass it on to texturing, then the hardest part is implementation into the engine and configuration. I'm not a coder, so I'm not going to stop modeling to fix bugs. My point is, yea, we're still behind the veil of "alpha", but just think about how small the game was when it was released after 1.5 years of development. 1.5 years and we had, what, 2 weapons and a pretty much vanilla map from A2? I agree, fix persistence, then focus on barricading or modular building. There's a bottleneck somewhere, that, or the priorities have shifted to fixing bugs rather than releasing content...and Alpha is for content with minor bug fixing. -

Because once they add other things that make the game harder, the masses come out and threaten to quit with cries of rage. -
The loot is fine. Forget any paths or routes you used to take. Forgot the spawn nodes you memorized. Start looking in places you've never looked before (around cars and structures/deer stands). I keep reading that there is "literally no loot" then he points out that all he's finding are "hats, books, shirts, etc" Well, guess what, that's loot....not all loot has to be ammunition or even be useful to you at the moment. Someone could be in desperate need of that shirt for storage. Just because it's not useful to you at that very time, does not mean it's useless or crap loot. I'm watching these streamers complain about no loot, but they're running to the same buildings they used to and running to the same spawn nodes...passing several houses, outhouses, and even loot around cars and trailers.

This isn't rural Los Angeles. As this rate, there will be so many villages, there will be no secluded areas to set up camp. The small corner of the NW is started to fade now with these new additions. I realize you need to keep adding, but expand the map first...it's already cluttered.

I'm sorry if this has been addressed, I can't seem to find it. I'm tired of every stable server I find being forced to 24 hr day. The most exciting part of the game to me is scurrying around in the night. Full Moon nights are still VERY clear and you can see a country mile. If you give people the option to make things easier, 9/10 will. Just imagine how many overwatch type servers we would have if loot tables were allowed to be edited. There would maybe be a very small handful of servers that would stick to the CLE.

There's your problem. Your focus is trying to kit up rather than survive.

Everyone seems to want the game to mimic The Walking Dead.
billyangstadt posted a topic in General Discussion
Yet, they don't seem to be able to handle the harshness that the scenario would produce. "I ran through the whole city and didn't find a can of food or ammo, loot is broken" I'm not talking about the CLE, it seems to happen everytime the devs move to make survival a bit more harsh. So, to keep their game alive, they have to cave to the run and gun players since that's the attention span most of the community has, unfortunately. Have you ever considered that the survival rate in that type of situation would be fairly low? There would be tons of people everyday starving to death, traveling miles upon miles without finding any useful gear Ever consider the fact that there can be several cities and villages completely raided of all guns and ammo. People seem to watch the newest episodes and run to the forums charged up with suggestions from the show. The show obviously keeps the action at the forefront for ratings, but imagine if they showed the other side. Where groups are losing several people per day, they travel 5 episodes without finding a single can of food, gun or ammo, and eventually starve...ya know...what would most likely happen (since we can only go on what we assume). To think that military bases wouldn't be completely raided in the first month is completely asinine. -

Let me get this straight, you're assuming "people don't read stuff" because a single post amongst hundreds a day that was posted months ago was lost? I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was stickied.. -

billyangstadt replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I realize this, but many indie companies start their own game because every other game out there isn't what they want or feel the community needs. Eventually, when this much money is on the line, they sell out or fall off the map. It's sad. This genre needs a true hardcore survival. One where only a few people on the server may have a rifle or pistol, gun and food spawns are near non existent and you're forced to live off of the land. Everything now is weapons, ammo, more weapons, fancy buildings, more weapons, cars...and the eventual crafting recipe. This is all games of the genre. -

I just wish ONE, just ONE, gaming studio would say, "You know what, if you don't like it...just leave. This game is meant to be hard, frustrating, and your chances of surviving long enough to even set up a camp are low. If you don't like playing in a creul, harsh world that a zombie apocolypse would provide, feel free to exit left and play one of the other 200 zombie shooters" Yet, everyone eventually sells out for the mighty dollar. -
I don't care if the loot system wasn't 100% ready
billyangstadt posted a topic in General Discussion
That's why we're here, to test. We can't test if the CLE is pulled because people kick and scream because they can't find food in the first 15 minutes. It's supposed to be a harsh world, is it not? I realize that it "wasn't completely ready". Yes, there were bugs, but again, that is why we are here. We're far more effective testers than a team of 10. I found plenty of food and gear once I adapted. That's the problem with today's impatient gamers, there's almost zero ability to adapt their game play. They still insist on following old loot routes or loot maps because they won't change what they think works. Everyday people say "alpha" when it's convenient, but don't actually believe what they're saying. You're here to TEST, not play a final released game. I also love the people who threaten to quit every time a patch doesn't go their way. Good riddance. You're here to give feedback, not kick and scream, we don't need you. Damn near every "hardcore survival" game out there is riddled with loot because we have communities (essentially all of the same people) who only have the attention span to treat the game as a run and gun, and when they have to work for their supplies, they cry that the loot is broken. Now everywhere I turn there's overflowing amounts of useful gear. Gamebreaking. I'm sorry. /rant..- 21 replies

I can agree with that. -

Again, how are we supposed to test if it gets removed on a hotfix? I don't believe they got all of the data they needed in that short time. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
billyangstadt replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
It's a game based on latency and server load...then your internet takes the load of an aggroed zombie. So, if you have a ping over 100, you will always have this problem. No clipping zombies have nothing to do with the game. If your internet is shit(based on server location), it will never go away. -
Variation of Buildings has lost their sense

Do you really think that loot would ONLY be bound to one place in a real scenario? Loot will spread itself out, aswell of having a higher chance at their relative areas. -
Can someone please help me understand "persistence"
billyangstadt posted a topic in General Discussion
So, I've been playing on the UN First person server and I love it. As I was playing today, I see a message that says persistence is off until fixed. What includes "persistence"? Can I still place a tent to store loot? or does persistence being off stop all forms of storage? -

billyangstadt replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
Does placing them inside of the tent mean that the items are "on the ground"? -
Hello, I have a few questions before I purchase the server. I've not found a server that I like yet, and would be wanting to buy my own now. 1. Can i control the day/night cycles? I'm tired of playing 24/hr day. I'm assuming the way to do this would be to know exactly what time it gets dark. Does anyone know? 2. Can I control the weather? It literally never rains on some servers

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing the invincible zombies im hearing about
billyangstadt posted a topic in General Discussion
I killed a zombie in 5 hits with a lug wrench (multiple times), and 3 with an axe. I'm hearing people hitting zeds with a crowbar 25 times and the zed not dying, I'm guessing they're not hitting them in the head. The zombies are much harder to kill, but I'm suspecting people are just making up ridiculous numbers in hopes that the devs will send it back to easy mode. Zombies should not be attacked, as it should be. Sprinting at them with a melee and trying to deke and swing should not be acceptable, be defensive first. This is where people are having issues, I believe. Stealth mode works, it just takes patience and waiting sometimes. Even if you aggro a zed, run in and out of barns..after about 200 meters..they give up or lose you. The zombies are harder to kill, yes, but much easier to shake. -

I agree, here. The streamers I'm watching who compain about loot are STILL spot looting from their previous loot route. It's infuriating. They even say, "I am checking everywhere, bro, why u mad" , yet he'll run by 4 houses to get to the police station. Some people should have been swallowed. -

I didn't say 25 axe hits, I said crowbar. -
You can't judge what a game should be by what you think is market popular. DayZ still stands tall, despite several new titles coming out every year. They all eventually fizzle. People THINK they want full on PVP until they realize there are 1000 other games just like it. Everyone though WarZ was going to kill Dayz....everyone thought 7 days to die was going to kill DayZ, same with H1Z1, Rust, Dead Linger, Contagion, etc. All games who tried to rip DayZ off and add more PVP....all titles other than H1Z1 right now are dead. Why can't DayZ finally be the ONE game that stands true to hardcore survival from all elements, not just PVP?

I hope the devs stick to their proverbial guns on this one. I stopped playing this game after only 20 hours because everytime I turned around there were fruit, ammo, and Sporters. I could have decent gear in under 30 minutes. It was awful.
