The map is cut is a quad and loot spawns are bases on players in each quadrant.

Difference between standalone and mod?
billyangstadt replied to hansanitizer's topic in General Discussion
It's on par with major game studios putting out popular titles. Completely developing a game can take an average of 5 years based on stats, thats with studios who have quadruple the budget and staff. -
What are you looking forward to most with 0.58 stable?

Ok,make loot spawn once for the life of the server. How long do you think that would last? -
IMT, You're not understanding what I'm saying. I'm saying, people run through an area quickly, see no loot and assume nothing is spawning. The loot is spawning, it's just that you're the trigger, but you're moving so fast, that the loot does spawn, just not immediately. Example: Player runs through a long barn, nothing is spawned, he assumes nothing is there. Well, the loot did spawn, but you were moving so fast, you missed it all spawning behind you. Your example of sitting at the well is a perfect example. The loot did spawn right infront of you because you were stationary and it had time to catch up. I've tested this 3 times now. I enter an area that's been looted (all doors open), no loot. I start from the beginning of the town again, the loot has spawned it. If you run in and out of houses, the loot spawning can't seem to predict that you're in the area, it's delayed.

I for one love persistence of the spawns. I've seen the same loot in my area for 3 days, loot I won't touch because I don't need it. People love to argue that eventually all that will be left is trash loot, but someone will want that hockey stick soon. Or that wrench. I love it. Makes you travel the map. Or loot cycle, but I prefer the first.

It's the hermit life for me. I enjoy hunting, fishing, living off of the land whilst surviving the elements. You can keep your run and gun PVP, but until you take DayZ for everything that it's supposed to be, you'll always get bored! First Image: I was cold, injured and on the edge of death. Thankfully I crafted a bow drill, splint, and was able to wait out the storm Second Image: The storm is rolling in as you can see by the dark clouds slowely covering the sky, I'll be collecting all of the rainwater I can before I continue my journey to the far North West to set up camp. Third Image: I just love the detail of the rain water puddling up on the roof while the rain created ripples in the puddles. So detailed and beautiful.

I have some more to upload tonight to show just how beautiful this game is.

Difference between standalone and mod?
billyangstadt replied to hansanitizer's topic in General Discussion
Here's the thing, dude. The majority of people on this forum are here to talk shit about the game as they as not happy it's not fully militarized. The DayZ mod was awesome, but it's running on a game that's 6 years old and has a janky system. There are a ton of mods out there, most of which go against the premise of DayZ. They're fully militarized PVP with tanks and stinger missiles. The next patch coming this week will give you a real sense of what DayZ is going to be. Guns will be harder to aquire, and PVE aspects are re-implemented. I loved the mod and I love the SA, no reason to pick one or the other. -
That's my point, you're essentially the trigger spawning the loot, and most of the time it spawns behind you as you are moving away. You saw items spawn because you were stationary for a little time. Most people run in and out of houses. If they were to stick around, the loot would spawn in front of them as it did for you.

DayZ is up to 4 million copies as of Jan 2015, and climbing. In my opinion, there are more people that want the game to be as realistic as possible than there are who want a shooter. Remember the people who claimed H1Z1 was going to be the end of DayZ, well, they're right back here. They can threaten to leave and quit all they want, they always end up back here threatining to quit every patch that limits their run N gun gameplay. As if them threatening to quit is going to push a hotfix from the devs, "OMG please don't leave, we're sorry!" -
I for one am torn on the modding issue. I absolutely love the idea of a new map with differing temperatures. Think Namalsk meets Chernarus. Then, I remember the days of the mod where the community was divided so many times with each new mod that came out. I'm not looking forward to servers with 5-6 people in them on a new 270Km2 map. I for one will be hosting my own server. One where canned food is near non-existent, one where animal spawns are slightly increased and you're forced to live on the land. One where weather harshness and sickness will be increased. Chances are survival are based on how you value your life. No more sprinting for 30 minutes in the rain to get to a city.

They're not going to "lose their game" because that's the game they intended to make, the game you bought and knew that's the direction it was heading. Just wait until they implement soft skills, and every character life gets wiped when you die. People who spent 5-6 days on a toon and have some skills built on him will be alot less reluctant to rush the airfield or spray and pray around corners. Even if the game dies down to 1000 people per night playing, good...quality over quantity. Life should be valued in this game, not just another medium to get a gun and go pew pew in Elektro. -

Why not play the other 10 "survival" games put there if all you want are quick gunfights? H1z1, ISS, hell..even Breaking Point are all geared to that playstyle. You're going to have a bad time in 0.58 I just pray the devs realize that the silent majority love having to scavenge and that forums usually only consist of negativity. It's kinda like looking at reviews for a product, the only people that ever review are those who had a bad experience. -
How many people use Experimental to actually test and report bugs
billyangstadt posted a topic in General Discussion
It seems consistent that alot of the player base carry over their style of play from stable, and stick to it the entire patch without variations. In my opinion, teamwork and exploring new mechanics are what experimental should be. The entire "alpha" phase is supposed to be testing, I get it, but the experimental branches should especially be played in a way to discover new bugs. I've found and reported 2 new bugs recently just by going "out of the norm" of my gameplay. That brings up another question. How many people actually report the bugs they find? Or do you just continue on assuming someone else has or will without confirming? If no, what's the reason? Is the process to lengthy? -
Found two today industrial

As the title reads. I've been playing around with using barrels in .58 for storing, and love it. They can be well hidden in a tree near the bark, but the leaves tend to not render at far distance..making it stick out. I would love the ability to paint it and throw some netting over the top to help hide it. Would also be great to be able to chain and padlock it, giving the lockpick a use too..a while giving it a bit more security.

Me too.

For anyone having issues finding loot in Exp. I've noticed that if you're the first one in the area after a restart, you're essentially the trigger to spawn that loot and it always seems to spawn once you leave the area. So, backtrack.

Absolutely there is. The ungodly amount of military grade weapons would destroy the CLE algorithms.

Most of the surviving residents are civilian, though.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. Would read again.

My favorite parts is the soft skills tied to that alive character. Giving people a reason to value life. So awesome when you have something real to lose other than gear.

To be honest, it's a lower level streamer who got raided by a big streamer, that's how I found him. Most of the mainstream broadcasters understand the system and what you're trying to accomplish. The others who still crave PVP play .57. That being said, come .58 stable, they're gunna have a bad time and probably get frustrated seeing as how alot of stream chats don't have the patience to hang around for their streamer to get geared for PVP. I personally love to watch guys like Crom who use mechanics like hunting, campfires fir warmth, etc.
