  1. The release of the files to modders will inevitably turn this game into yet ANOTHER casual looter shooter. DayZ has set the standard in terms of survival, and harsh environments. The release of server files will lead to full militarized servers, 24/7 day, no weather, and SVD's spawning in supermarkets. For those that are going to say, "if the survival community is so strong, then there will be plenty of population in those servers. This is what the community wants", I don't want to get started on that topic. This game has incredible survival mechanics, and its going to break my heart to see it crapped on when modders remove all harsh elements in lieu of fast paced gameplay for Twitch streamers. Yes, modders would potentially introduce some great scripts or items toward survival, but the mass majority, as history has shown, will introduce modern guns and vehicles which have no place in DayZ. (Remember how ridiculous the Lamborghini Aventadors looked in Cherno?) Although I'm sure that I'm about to be roasted, I'd kindly ask the devs to reconsider their position on releasing server files. I'd rather play the game with the current population, in it's current state, than to watch it get stepped on. For those who will presumably tell me "Go play another game", I will say the same to you. DayZ is unique, the game you want is a dime a dozen.

My plea regarding modding and the release of server files

Not at all, but the modding that this game will face will eliminate the core survival mechanics, and turn it into a casual shooter. No more fishing, fires, farming, etc.

My plea regarding modding and the release of server files

Why wouldn't the devs just release an engine, and thats it? Why spend all of this time/effort/money to make a game that modders will just chop up anyway? If the true DayZ experience doesn't appeal to a player, then don't play that game. It's disheartening seeing great games get chopped up at the expense of fast paced gameplay and ease.

    Players dwindling

I think the genre in general is starting to fade. I don't think it's anything DayZ is doing right or wrong, it's just that there are so many cookie cutter games out there just like it.
  5. By default, my ui is very small and resolution is stretched. I set everything, do the necessary restart..and back to same This is stable .58

    is .58 stable playable?

I'm primarily just wanting to start a base and start hording. Is anything disabled? Persistence? Etc. Thanks

    is .58 stable playable?

Awesome info man. I may aswell horde on exp.
  8. Just remember, they said trucks and parts were going to be super rare that only a small amount of people and a large clan would be able to get one running, look how that went on .58 Just remember how trees rendered from the air, no matter how good you hide that barrel against the trunk, they're going to see that yellow barrel from a mile away.
  9. It's going to be a military base aswell? As if the Little Bird isn't going to make hiding camps near impossible with how trees render above (Or dont), may as well add another high point of interest in one of the only areas left to set up camp. We're going to be reduced to a barrel or two, if we're lucky? I like the idea of the little bird, just not until the new renderer comes and we have a larger map.

    Rocket's contribution

Here's my theory. I think Rocket had a vision for what DayZ should be, but others..including the studio didn't want DayZ to go that direction. I feel that he wanted to make the game brutally hard, almost sim level. Doing this would obviously detour new players and drive away the some existing players, so I'm sure he got a lot of push back from the studio. So many people are making him out to be a bad guy that abandoned the project, but I think he chose to part ways for the above reason.
  11. This has always been my favorite thing to do. All you pretty much do is sit in the barracks or the officer tents, and wait. You'll be surprised how many kills you get. Find a low pop server and wait. I promise, it doesn't take long before you're tasting delicious tears. These guys ruin what the CLE does, so I find it only fair to ruin their night. How do I know they're hoppers? Well, most seem to log in and out of the high loot area. Dead giveaway.
  12. Server hopper detected. I appreciate you being such an easy loot pinata.
  13. Tonight was the first time I killed someone and felt bad. Was camped in the officer tents when I heard a truck drive up. guy comes in...dead. Then I realized he was probably a regular on that server if he had a working truck.

    Regional loot?

Players spawn on the east and loot, thus no guns there.

    Came across a player's barrel

I've found a few, but feel bad when they have basic gear and a large talon pack. I mostly leave it unless it's military loot.

    Hunting Scope for What Gun?

    Yes
  17. The main problem I've faced in the past are the "badmins" The guys who will kick you from the server if you kill them, raid their camp etc. There are also a few more reasons: 1. Servers being full and having to spam enter. 2. Too many 24 hr day servers 3. Admins deciding they want to change to 24 hr day after I've played a week and established my camp(s). 4. Spending an entire night looting and storing only to find out they have turned persistence off. 5. Admins deciding to turn off persistence after I've played for a while on the server. These are just off the top of my head. There are some good admins out there, but when you give a player in the server that kind of power, eventually they'll have some bias toward their friends, or they'll fall victim to emotion and kick you when you kill them. Just from experience. Not directed at anyone, but every admin says they're different and they don't play on the server or have bias...but it usually ends up in a power trip and/or drama from false accusations of hacking, etc.
  18. I used to play private, but they seem to fill fast and I didn't want to have to spam click in hopes for a spot.

.58 survival progression was amazing last night.

It's good to see other players appreciating the core of DayZ. So many folks care way too much about guns and ammo and their rarity.

    Passwording public servers

Is this actually allowed? I'm now seeing a few public hived servers with passwords, as in their camps are 100% protected. I figured it was just bad timing with the restart showing it as locked, but a few minutes later they're still locked and have 1-2 people in them.

Can Falle Trees Be Manipulated w/persistance!

What he means is chopping a tree and placing a barrel where the tree was, that way on restart, it's glitched inside of the tree, I think.

Can Falle Trees Be Manipulated w/persistance!

I have my barrels pinched against trees

    Fashion Show

I think they're more upset that's guns aren't spawning as much as clothing.
  24. This may seem obvious for the seasoned DayZ player, but this is for those new players who are excited for persistence to come back. Please, stop setting up your camp and storing your vehicles along debug (the edge of the map North and West) It's the first place most people go to look for camps or vehicles. I found a VS3 almost immediately above Svetlo near debug (about 3 feet from it in the open) After driving the border of the map, I found 2 more VS3's and probably 10 or 12 barrels and tents, most with good gear. A lot of people that setup camp think they're safe in the far North or far West, but dating back to the mod, it's one of the first places (obviously preferences apply) survivors will look for camps. So, do yourself a favor and find a dense area not right at debug, and spread your camp out. Putting 3 tents and 2 barrels within 10 meters of each other is just asking to be cleaned out.
